Serious Question - should Henne have played some of the 4th
Not to turn this into a henne vs penne thread - but since the admin has stated that they need to get henne more work this year so that he's ready to take over BY game 1 2010.... I ask a serious question... down 19-0 with 7:30 minutes left in the 4th quarter, should sparano have put in Henne?
Couple of points. Henne needs the work, and real time experience with the actual first teamers.
Penne has a history of injuries and frailness. do you need to subject him to more punishment in a game that is esentially over.
or was it important enough to keep penne in there and hope to build some MO going into monday nights, now even more, important show down with the colts?

not gonna lie
I just want to see someone who can spread the field. I want to see a real offense. I don’t care if they bring Vinny back out of retirement.
As to answer you question, Pat threw a bomb, even though it was off, you know how good it felt to see one? Yes he should have played

wtf are you talking about?
What bandwagon? The dolphins are my team.
Did we watch the same game? I’m so tired of watching almost every other team being able to throw the ball.
Did you see what we have with Ginn & someone who can throw?
Everyone blames everything but the fact that we have a 10-20 yard offense.
All I hear is how accurate, well, if your always dumping your going to be. I watched him at Marshall & he had Moss & still had no deep ball.
Theses are IMHO but I think Williams is better than Brown & I think we need to stretch the field some or the box stays stacked all year.
I have a right to my opinoin & have always freely stated it.

I disagree about Ricky and Brown, but I do agree that we need to spread the field. Granted I know CP10 doesn’t have the best arm strength, but we threw the ball even 10 yards maybe 3 times all day.

You claim you are an unconditional fan yet you don't rally
around your team (Chad Pennington, captain and declared leader by his own teammates and coaches) during harsh times, when it actually matters.
A true fan goes to battle with whoever is by his side wearing the same colors, no questions asked.
He doesn’t just throw the Qb under the bus after one bad game.
Chad Pennington is our Qb now, be a true “fan” and support him when things are going south. Thats what a true fan does.
Marino is gone, get over it.
i didnt
Throw our qb under the bus. I responded to a question with my answer. You have never seen me post anything asking for CP10 to be benched.
All I’m saying is I want to see some offense.
Your not p***** at how our team played today?
I simply said it wouldn’t have hurt to let Henne in.

You are correct. Because of your first comment
I thought you were ready to start bashing pennington. I dont care if you bash Pennington I just get mad when people put all of the blame on one guy and just walk away.
If CP10 continues to play like he did, what do you think will happen..?
Defenses pick up on a one-dementional quarterback… then the offense suffers… why do you think this O-line had such trouble against weaker D-tackles?

The story all this months has been that cp10 is setting
the WRs back. I can understand that, because of arm strength and long routes and all that. But please explain to me how CP10 affected the horrendous O-Line play? lets say I buy your “they had 18 guys on the box” thing, ok. Explain to me why pennington is to take the blame for our O Linemen who were beaten all day long, not even by blitzes, just by undersized tackles, including a rookie? when he is a qb with an extremely quick release. Why could they not open holes in obvious running situations, where cleo lemon could be the qb for all i know, against and undersized and inexperienced defense?
If you want to be foolish enough as to say Pennington is to blame for all of our woes go ahead and have a blast. But the real question here is why a young, healthy and clearly overpaid Offensive Line can’t stay on their feet two plays in a row. Put this L on Pennigton but I don’t even want to imagine what kind of game Henne would’ve had today.
Everyone the coach has eye's, he don't need hounds as well.
i wasen’t felling to well yesterday, but after a good nite sleep. we here in south florida, (team miami) have our weather to blame everything on. weather can slow a body down, or speed it up, much like you have seen. now haveing just said that (timming) is the equilizer it can make a team look, how do you say (like a fish out of water)! and we all seen it mostly in superbowl’s were one team look’s supieror it’s only there timming was more acute to how they wer playing that day!!!!

around your team Chad Pennington
I’m sorry I didn’t know Henne wasn’t part of the team anymore. When did we cut him? I missed it.
Gotta let you in on a few things Mau, this team is Miami Dolphins, not Team Pennington.
A true fan goes to battle with whoever is by his side wearing the same colors, no questions asked.
I believe Henne was wearing the same colors as Pennington
He doesn’t just throw the Qb under the bus after one bad game.
Putting in a young QB when the game is pretty much out of reach and the starter is playing crappy is the mature thing to do. Screw worrying about someones feelings. BTW going back to the Ravens game that is what? Six (6) turnovers for CP. Thats 6 in 2 games.
Chad Pennington is our Qb now, be a true "fan" and support him when things are going south. Thats what a true fan does.
A “true fan” wants whats best for his TEAM, present and now. Not one qb’s feelings.
This sad, pathetic, excuse making, love affair for this Pennington guy is really getting out there. Since when did playing Pennington become a higher priority than the continual deveolpment of our beloved franchise. The dude just asked if we should’ve played our young QB late in the game and he is not a true fan anymore?
I hope everyone that bashed this man for asking that question follows Penninton right on outta here when he leaves.

You didn`t understand what I meant.
I was as frustrated as anyone today. I obviously recognize the lack of abilities Pennington has. Watching our offense is frustrating, not only because of his limitations but because of a lack of a true playmaker, a santonio holmes or greg jennings. Everybody knows that, nobody is blind as to not be able to see that. However, one thing is being constructive about it and a whole other is to just pin point Pennington as the sole reason for our poor play, and worse, for the state of our franchise at the qb position. All Im asking is that we rally around whoever is out there playing for this team, yes, you can ask for someone to be benched without being a bad fan, however that’s just when you are being objective and supportive. When people start bashing the guy thats just plain wrong. Today it is Pennington and tomorrow it might be Henne or White but you as a fan need to be ready to rally around any of these guys and not be ready to throw them under the bus because they are not the next Marino. We who support Pennington are not blindly on his side, we just believe in this project as of now, just as Sparano and the FO do. We saw a magnificent front 7 today and a better secondary than last year. If these guys get rid of the mistakes for next week we can compete against anyone because the identity of this team is not based on a weak armed quarterback or a gunslinger, this team is about heart. And we as fans should be too. That includes unconditional support for any of the guys out there, incuding pennington.
by the way, I wasnt talking to W NY FIN FAN
I actually agree Henne should’ve played late in the fourth. I was talking, i am talking actually to all those guys, including the first comment here, who are ready to put all the blame in Pennington’s “inability to stretch the field” as soon as this team is ready to crash. Bad O-Line play because of Pennington ?? grom some freaking balls
One more thing, do you think maybe all this Pennington blaming has
something to do with our frustration with selecting Jake Long over Ryan? It sure seems way easier to trash and doubt a FA washed up veteran we picked up out of nowhere than our #1 overall pick and franchise player? Why is nobody talking about his abysmal play today? Why is nobody talking about that obvious story line? Jake Long, our #1 overall pick, who got paid a ridiculous amount of money has not been more than mediocre during his time at Miami. Isnt he supposed to “Anchor” this O-line and take us to greatness? Weren’t we supposed to be a “PTR” team? with our 50 million man leading the way? Since that obviously isnt working now lets put all of the pressure on noodle arm to get us some wins or else…
This is not against you or anything lol its just the general outlook on the current situation of this franchise. Media, fans, etc.
Should we have picked Matt Ryan?
The general consensus in the media is that Parcells and co didnt go for him because they werent sold on him being a true franchise qb and didnt want to take that huge a risk. Well today I think that came back and kicked our ass back to Miami and to reality. Shit
im pissed at Long also
All I’m trying to say is we need some sort of offense.
If we can’t block we can’t do anything. If we can’t stretch the field, the box will stay stacked.
This should have been a blow out. That’s really sad considering how much the line makes.
We can’t really tell how good our receivers are, our backs.
Damn fumbles reminds me of Sammie Smith on goal line plays.
If this continues, I will start to call after the Bye. I always wait on the team, I’m not a coach so I don’t know who gives us the best chance to win.
I will trust them.

Yes, the thing about this offense is that
it can be effective as hell, because you are trying to win the time of possession battle with it while managing to score 2 or 3 TDs. Get the ball to your receivers quickly, move the chains, surprise them with a quick handoff for 10 or 15 yards, a little bit of wild cat, spread the ball around, short slant to Bess, then Camarlillo and try to sneak in a screen to ronnie for 20 yards, then finish off with a 20 yarder to Fassano in the end zone. This CAN happen, we already saw it work last season, hell, we saw it work for a short period of time today before Fassano’s first fumble. Yes, I agree, you could call this a weak offense or a dink and dunk offense or whatever, of course I would like to have something like New Orleans or even Atlanta but this is what we got. It can work and we can have a fun season again full of surprises and sleepers. But for this to work we need continuity on drives, rhythm and mistake free football needs to happen. If you add that beastly front 7 we got and sean smith getting more mature every game we should be able to make some plays on defense. I hope this offense starts to gel and Im sure it will. One thing is for sure, with Penne or Henne we NEED a true #1 wideout. Ginn is coming along nicely and will be a solid #2 receiver for years to come and a true deep threat. But we need a true playmaker, being a true number one receiver is more that running fast or physical abilities, its about being fearless, being smart, having that personality of wanting to be that go to guy.
This team is taking huge strides for the future and we will be a great team for years to come. However, seeing how happy last year made all of us, im not ready to give up on this cindirella story just yet.
idk maybe.
Long had a bad game and I’m sure the coaches will address our line. We do have to new starters from last year. So I’m sure the line will get it together eventually.
I was for going after Ryan, but many said it was too big of a risk. Ryan is has alot of things going for him, a REAL GOOD running attack, and a very good 0-line. White has really come on as a reciever as well.
Our line was a disaster for years and we really needed a cornerstone for it. We don’t know how good Henne is. Would you trade a franchise OT for a franchise QB? No. But you would trade a franchise QB for a franchise OT and QB (anywhere from Eli – Peyton..franchise is being used loosely) . Yes.
It all depends on how good Henne is in my book.
If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.
- Job 13:5
I think No because of 3 reasons
1- If you take Pennington out, you are basically telling the team “this was on him”, not the actual “this is on all of you morons”. This was a clear way of telling the entire offense that they have to get it together.
2- Sparano , the FO and more importantly the fans, are counting on this team to do well this season. Maybe even return to the playoffs. With that said, Pennignton is our QB right now so if you loose you loose with him or win with him. There will be time for Henne later in the season if things start going south, not just because of the first game.
3- There are already a lot of Henne doubters out there, so why throw him into a game where the line is giving zero protection to the qb and the receivers arent getting open. A bad performance by both Penny and Henne would have people reallyyy going off about missing out on Matt Ryan and the need of a true Franchise QB. This young guy doesnt need more pressure after a bad off season.

Chad was holding the ball too long when he did have time.
Look, listen. The entire offense (save Ricky) played terrible. If I was Tony I wouldn’t be taking them to any movies anytime soon. Took me back to Camcam days. We’ll see if Parcells decends on team this week. My money is on that he will.

CP10 played scared.
I can’t fault him for being worried, but he had a defeated look about him, each time the camera was on him. I was really thrown back when on 3-4 crucial downs, I watched him run from the pocket- for no reason and throw the ball into the ground. WTF?
I like CP10 and he’s a great field leader, but win or loose, I can’t help compare him to other QBs in the league. I know it’s only one game, but there are serious patterns to consider. He had a full off-season to develop repore with his WRs and yet he continues to check down, check down, throw away.
He can’t throw deep, he doesn’t pump fake, he doesn’t scramble, he doesn’t take chances. All characteristics of successful passers, which he is not.
He’s a good player coach, and has a nice touch pass.
He has a high player rating, because he minimizes the risk for a bad play- but at the same time, he minimizes the chance to a good play. At the end of the day, sometimes a long pick is the same as a punt.
Despite Herm Edwards, best advice. Chad plays to not loose the game, and we do not have the talent (developed) right now to have a caretaker babysit our offense. Maybe against the Houstons of the league but not the good teams.
Show me something Chad, make me believe… please!

many of which i agree with but none of them really adress my question… do you think they should have played Henne at the end of the game?

So do you think the Jets intentionally did it to set the organization back 3 years or was it just an unintended side effect of their move.

Answer= NO
We still had a chance to win….we didn’t a spark, we needed protection. However, If CP10, win or loss, continues to dispay the same tendancies he has in the last several starts, we seriously need to consider getting Henne in their for reps. If we’re worse than 3-3 we need to scrap the CP10 project and move on, so we know what we have in Henne, if he doesn’t perform adequately and improve over the season- let’s find someone who can play.

if you start/play henne game 7 … you’ve right at the start of 6 of 8 on the road… not exactly a nice way to ease him in.

Anyone can piggy back off another’s post. Most do. Besides, I think you’ve been around long enough to know my originality.
….. You seem upset you’re mentioned in this post…. Something you also did on "Next best thing fans" by MainePhinFan, when you addressed W NY Fin Fan.
….. You want me to address your question, but I don’t remember your answer to mine… "If CP10 continues to play like he did, what do you think will happen..?"
….. I didn’t answer and you can infer whatever you want. You took it that I meant the offensive line’s woes were a direct reflection of CP10. Clarifying: "Defenses" (not just the defensive line) pick up on one-dimensional quarterbacks…
….. Then, the "offense" suffers (not just the o-line or qb)
….. And on, "why do you think this O-line had such trouble against weaker D-tackles?" I could research this but it would be work more than I care for. You disagreed with my assessment and asked valid questions. But I don’t feel I have to answer any questioning of myself for thinking that.

Please try to understand that this particular post you refer to is just my opinion or thought or feeling that could have elicited a response from anyone’s post, including yours. The Reason Why
This is the first game, the coaching staff wants to get the starters gelling and build a rhythm together. If nothing else this game never allowed the starters to get a rhythm. I think come week 3 or 4, in a similar situation, they wouldn’t hesitate to get Chad Henne into the game, but it’s only week 1 and those reps were better served by the 1st team offense. Chad Pennington deserved the 7:30 to at least get some points on the board, but also to get comfortable with himself and his players.
IF we were a well oiled machine
simply getting our asses handed to us by a far superior team then I would say yes but when you’re getting dominated because your team is SO out of sync then I think the starters need the playing time in hopes of correcting your Ills.It seems you are the one always(even going back to last year) talking about noodle arm allowing the opposing D to “stack the box” but I have yet to see our opponents have more than the standard seven in the box with the occasional safety blitz but you act as if they simply put nine or ten in the box EVERY play and dare us to throw it but I have all of last seasons games recorded and I just don’t see it.
What is your definition of “stacking the box”?..how many within how many yards qualifies as stacking to you ? If you consider the FS and the SS within 20 yards of the LOS then every team stacks the box on every play not counting the hail marys but I honestly don’t see what you claim to see. What I see is that our front five can’t keep the DL out of our backfield consistently so they don’t even have to run some exotic blitz package and THAT is what bothers me.
Something else I was wondering is people saying that Penne looked scared even when the heat wasn’t as bad as say the previous play or series and it makes me wonder how people can expect rookies, say John Beck or a David Carr,to handle something that even seasoned veterans struggle with.
