PrintThat was certainly ugly. Not too much to say here. Just a few quick points:
- What happened to Jake Long this offseason? He apparently forgot how to block.
- Four turnovers? This isn't the Dolphins team I remember. Well, it is if you're referring back to the '07 team.
- The Dolphins held Michael Turner to less than 3 yards per carry. If I told you that before this game, you would have all said the Dolphins would get the win.
- 0-1 isn't the end of the world.
My usual recap post to come tonight. Please keep this thread relatively clean. I know you're all angry, but let's keep our cool a little bit.

I think we played around with our offense too much to decide who should start where in the preseason. We shoulda worked with what we were gonna have on the damn field, and maybe they would’ve understood eachother better

I don’t understand. Dan Dierdorf stated during the game that Pat White was now #2 behind Pennington and he questioned how Chad Henne Felt about that. Is that correct? or is White #2 for just the Atlanta game?

white is just 2 so we can bring him in on wildcat plays throughout the game

White is # 2 so if Henne was # 2 and they played pat white, pat white wouldh ave to keep him in and not be able to go back and forth
Most teams activate 2 QB's on gameday
and the 3rd QB is the “emergency QB,” meaning he doesn’t count towards your active roster, but he can come in and play if there are injuries. But, if the 3rd QB comes in, no other QB can reenter the game. So if White was the 3rd QB, we couldn’t have played him and Pennington. Because he was 2nd, he could go back and forth with CP

I am sure that's what it was
since he is the Wild pat specialist this was the best way to do it, Had CP10 been hurt and out of the game they would have activated Henne and sat white out for the rest of the game.
Since Henne is not going to be used primarily for a Wildcat style offense it makes sense he was put in as the 3rd or true ‘Backup’ QB (he would not have gotten to touch the ball regardless if he was number 2).
Our Defense looked good....
As usual … where is our offense….Jake Long WAKE UP….oh well there is no way to win when we turn it iver 4 TIMES….we still can not RUN! I would like to see a high power for offense for once.
I imagine he fit into more packages than Henne would...
he did throw that ball almost 60-70 yds…

Grades
This will be brief since I haven’t watched this game thoroughly
QBs – C You cant completely fault penne for his performance. The O-Line was abysmal. He put a nice drive towards the end. This would be a C+ if not for pat white overthrowing Ginn on a sure TD
RB’s – B- At least they showed some grit. Again the O-Line was craptastic so they didnt have much to work with. Ricky in particular showed some heart.
WR’s – C+ When the ball actually was able to get out of pennes hands they usually did something good. Bess was everywhere and Ginn should have scored
TE’s – D would have been an F if not for Haynos. Look we are really gonna miss David Martin. Fasano was our LVP. He better snap out of this
O-Line – D- Just god awful almost the whole game. Jake Long looked like a child out there. This is not an F simply for that last drive. The O-line should get punsihed all next week in practice
D-Line – B – We shut down Michael Turner and got a few hits on matt Ryan. JT looks as good as ever. MErling looked good too. A positive
LB’s – C Really didn’t stand out. Crowder made a few plays
DB’s – C I mean Tony Gonzales is a beast and they have weapons to begin with. Davis and W. Allen made some plays
STs – D Did you see our returns? They were awful. This is supposed to be our spark.
overall D+. Hopefully we show up next wk

Camarillo has taught us that the anus is a much better body part than the face when you’re trying to catch the balls. Maybe we can re-sign Chris Williams and have Camarillo give him some pointers. Chris can face backwards during the punt returns then catch it “Camarillo style.” Then he would be electrifying! probably averaging like 30 yards per return.

D Line to A dominant
DB’s B theydidtherejob and Atlanta DIDNT make 30plus points on us. As i said, it would be a MIRACLE if they made us 20 points,but we DIDNT do crap on O, the O line was on vacation today!! FFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!

Yeah and funny thing when u play Madden 10 it seems like that Denver lucky bounce tip catch and score happens alot at the end of games , STOKLEY the receiver even ran along the end zone line for 5 secs to burn time lol.

Wow, just like last year's opener, this was sooo disappointing.
yesterday I wrote that if we made Ryan throw 35+ times and kept Turner < 80 yards we’d win.
The falcons did not win a single game last year when Ryan threw 33+ times. Yet today they did.
Our defense did the job but way too many mistakes on offense. Last year we kept turnovers to the absolute minimum and that’s why we won so many games. Not today though…..

Ugh
Offensive line hasn’t fully gelled, receivers still not getting open on 3rd down, uninspired play all around from key offensive players….the turnovers hurt, but I suspect that they were really just insult to injury.
The good news is that it’s only one loss, to an NFC team, and the offense will (hopefully) take this and use it as motivation for the remainder of the season.
Defense looked good – at least good enough as they could, and should also improve, so there’s a positive.
I honestly feel like the offense is far better than what we saw today. Personally, I don’t care about breaking our own turnover record – I just want to see production and no more shooting themselves in the feet…were they expecting to phone it in or something today? Did they all oversleep or something?
Coaching – With all due respect to Sparano and co – this offense was NOT ready for a game that counted.
I suspect that the offense will not be having a fun week in practices and hopefully, this does not bode well for Indianapolis.
Nice and early in the season – may sound overly optimistic, but i’d rather identify the weaknesses early and see them corrected so we’re playing better late – rather than squeak by now and be exposed later when the games start to become more meaningful. I have always felt week two (being that 50% of the teams are undefeated) is full of paper lions.
Looking forward to seeing Miami step up next week – and no – as much as I also fall into the “believe the worst” category in the past, there’s no way i’m throwing in the towel on my team – much less in week one.

Look Atlanta is gonna be a playoff team
i know we want to be at that level n i think we will get there but lets not forget atlanta is very good at home. I dont think atlanta lost at home last year. Colts are good but they lost their #2 receiver which should help our secondary if the front seven plays like they did today.

24th ranked Defense
our offense is just not that good, and it’s simply down to the O line, as it always has been. You could see the same Dolphins we saw today in the Tampa game in preseason. Everyone was giving Long a pass then too, and saying it was “just preseason” but the signs were there. No matter how much pep talk they get this weak, there is some serious talent still missing on this team.
OFFENSIVE LINE
There was no push, and no prayer of running between the tackles. With our O Line being paid so well, this is simply unacceptable. Without any positive production from them next week, we’re looking at very long season, and a whole lot of wasted contract money.
Brutal start
You can’t win in this league with 4 turnovers let alone playing on the road!!!!!!

It looked like they were actually running OK with Ricky on a few plays early in the game, over the right side. In fact the first play from scrimmage looked like a strong run up the middle…
Colts
Before the season began I predicted this game would be a loss, and the Colts would be a resounding win in front of the home crowd. I still think it will be.

I’m going to go with your prediction then! This is after all the NFL and anyone can look bad for one week and any team can beat any other team on a given week. If we dont turn the ball over right before the half (or at all) and start the second half 7 to 7 then its probably a totally different game.

Couldn't watch, but listened on Sirius...
Holy cow. Now, I didn’t get to see the game at all, but I heard it on SIrius while driving. It didn’t sound good at all….correct me if I am wrong on any of this?
1) Once again Ricky out shined Ronnie in the run game? It seems like everytime Ricky touches the ball, not only does he make a play, but he chews out a couple extra yards after contact. The announcers made it seem like Ronnie wasn’t really fighting for the extra yards. This is happening way WAY too much, and if Ronnie wants to get another big contract, he better start playing to the potential that we all think she should be playing.
2) What the hell are our safeties doing? How is it that Gonzalez could run free so often. It sounded like our DBs did fairly well (How did Sean Smith do?), but they just picked apart of Safeties. Was this an issue of then not being totally comfortable playing with each other, or were they just abused?
3) Not only is our O-Line being abused by what may be the smallest D-Line in the league, but our offense is totally dependent on them playing at least to an average level. This is not a good sign of things to come, we have to control the Line.
4) Sounds like our Receives did okay. A couple of mental errors (Hartline’s OI penalty), but they played decent. Seems we spread the ball around a ton.
5) TE’s…. Fasano… You gotta play better than that. You spent all offseason long talking about how you needed to step up and take the next step to become an elite TE in the league…..
6) Lets keep Pat White holding the clip board…. He’s not ready to play in real game yet. Lets not rush this, our Wildcat works just fine without him…..lets get him Game Ready before we throw him out there.
7) Not a great performance by CP10, but I’m not going to blame him with the way our OLine performed. If he’s constantly looking over his shoulder expecting to be blindsided, and can’t get comfortable in the pocket, mistakes are going to be made. I think his performance is more a reflection on the Line, then it is of his. AND PLEASE STOP CALLING FOR HENNE. JESUS. WE KNOW ALREADY…..JUST STOP. Its not going to happen….
8) Its a damn good thing Drew Brees had that Labrum problem and ruined his career. I mean, just think…..if we had taken that chance…..what a mistake that would have been.

The Big O
O line is the biggest concern. Not enough push, not enough protection. just a lot of “not enough” for a bunch of well paid players. We’ve been waiting for the Miami O Line to “gel” for decades now.
If I had my wish they would do nothing but draft OL and go after FA in the OL until they get this right. Let ’e m get like 15 new players until they figure it out. Until they do it will not matter who is playing QB or who is running.
