Blackouts
I was watching Mike and Mike this morning and they were discussing broadcast blackouts. The current economic troubles were cited as the cause of slow ticket sales. Has anyone heard anything about Miami? I'm hoping that the new owner, solid team, and all of the star-power signing on will bring up the ticket sales. I wish I knew this before I bought Sunday Ticket. I hope we get to watch the home games!

A blackout on Sunday ticket?
Armchair QB's always complete the pass and armchair coaches always pick the right players.
Yes, Larry Little is still the man.

the way I understand this..
is that with a blackout they dont broadcast to the city and surrounding areas.. meaning that if you live in miami or around you wont be able to watch the games locally. With the Sunday Ticket you can still see the games, because you are paying (tech the NFL) to watch the games. If that makes any sense. So dont worry if you have the Ticket you can still see the games, just wont be able to see it on Miami Local TV.

agreed
but if you have ticket why would you need to watch it locally on cbs?
Go to the games, if you can’t watch it in HD.

that's actually not true
I don’t believe… I had Sunday Ticket for a few years, and you got every game, except the ones shown locally on the major networks. So if you live in an area that would get Dolphins games as the local game, it will still be blacked-out.
I think I read your comment right lol

Listen to Nicky!
He’s 100% correct, if you live in the blackout area it’s blacked out, sunday ticket or not, black out rules are for areas, not individual networks, they are in place to drive up ticket sales and is the most inviolate rule the teams have concerning TV rights, if you don’t sell out, you don’t get the game.

If you own the Sunday Ticket
and live in the Miami area, you will not be able to see the game, the sunday ticket follows all local blackout rules.

Phin is right..
I just went to Directvs site and they follow all blackout rules… Phat do you live in or near Miami.. I dont think we are in trouble of blackouts as we were not cited in the “teams in trouble”

welcome to the NFL my friend
its in the fine print….
now if you have a old fashion satelite – i still think you can hijack the direct feed out of space but then i haven’t seen one of those in years. so there is the internet and a goodle search will lead you in the right direction.

So do you think the Jets intentionally did it to set the organization back 3 years or was it just an unintended side effect of their move.

Not sure if this is always true...
But I had Sunday Ticket w/ Super Fan last year and never had a blackout in HD, there were some in SD though.

It's true
Directv won’t carry games on the Sunday ticket if you live in the area where the game is blacked out due to low attendance.

phinhead is correct
all telecasts – free air or direct tv are blocked out if the home team doesn’t sell out.

directv/sunday ticket...
If directv blackouts the game where you live, chances are it is being carried on one of your local channels..i.e fox, wbbm etc..This has happened here in chicago, and at first I freaked out..only to figure that the miami game is being shown locally(nationally)..shouldnt miss a snap….

Thank God. . .
I’m out of the local blackout area but I’m in Central Florida so I was worried.

Central Florida
Is considered a secondary market for the Dolphins, it is not subject to blackouts. Unless of course they are blacked out to show the Jaguars, for which central florida is a primary market.

My parents had one of those 7-1/2 ft satellite dishes that you really don’t see anymore. They owned a sports bar, so the guy installed one at our house too. You literally moved from one geostationary satellite to another in space in order to watch different channels. Each satellite had like 20-25 channels on it.
If a game was blacked out, my dad would call the Miami CBS affiliate and ask which transponder the broadcast was on. We would then watch the live feed with no commercials or breaks. Which was actually funny because you could hear the announcers talking while they were supposed to be at commercial. It would be like “We’ll see if the Jets can make a comeback right after the break.” (go to commercial) “Well they better do something because they are playing like crap today. Did you see that last pass, how is he still in the league?!?”
It was great.

We had the same type of thing
When our cable system expanded—-this has to have been at least 20-25 yrs ago—anyhow, one of the stations we had showed Pittburgh Pirates baseball games and showed the live sattelite feeds for a while…I still remember one break when one announcer asked the other to pass him one of the magnets to him, and the other announcer exclaimed "Maggots!!!! EWWWWW!!!! get em outta here!!!!!

I just moved back to Iowa and need to get sunday ticket… sucks you haved to pay so much for it, but its like 17 bucks a game…. and I’m not guaranteed sundays off from work… which makes it even worse… and if I didn’t want to pay for it, this is a college game area, not too many big nfl bars around here

So, how many college games are on at those bars on Sunday? It the TV reception that slow there?
