Dolphins Training Camp: Open Thread 8/4
Only one practice today open to the public, which begins around 9 am. They will also practice at 5 pm today inside the bubble. And there will be plenty to keep tabs on.
Jason Allen had a rough day yesterday. How will he rebound today? Eric Green continues to work as the starter at cornerback on the other side of Will Allen. But rookies Vontae Davis and Sean Smith have performed well early on in camp. Will they get a shot to work with the first-team at all?
And, of course, we'll likely get some news about the Matt Roth saga playing out in Davie. Tony Sparano will speak to the media after practice. I can't help but wonder when Roth will meet with the media as well for the first time this camp.
Use this thread for all of your training camp discussion. As you find links to various practice reports, post them below. I will update this post as time allows with links to the reports to keep everyone as updated as possible.

Omar:
WR Brennan Marion, who is recovering from an ACL injury, is not practicing this morning. Like can’t handle two-a-days.
I am going to take a huge risk now...
I think Henne will surprise to the upside during pre season games… and create a difficult environment for coach Sparano…

Omar: Pat White is still having troubles with his accuracy. He’s still throwing high and behind guys. The rook needs time.
Armando: Greg Camarillo is so smooth. When all said & done won’t be surprised if he leads team in recepts.
anything about JT? haven't heard or read a word about him

From Edgar:
Man, Ernest Wilford looks slow. Takes him forever to get his feet under him, slower than any of the other tight ends, including 6-7 Joey Haynos.

Omar:
Joey Porter registered first sack during team drills, getting to Penny. Oline struggled today handling pressure.
Will Allen picked off Penny pass intended for Anthony Armstrong and might have run it back for touchdown.
Quentin Moses got to Henne when pocket collapsed, pushing FB chris Brown into him. Erik Walden beat Garner for a sack a few plays later.
Lionel Dotson sacked Henne after Cameron Wake’s pressure forced him to step up. Wake getting close to would be sack, but hasn’t gotten one.
More:
Paul Soliai is working as a first teamer in the nickel package, and making plays every once in a while.
Tony McDaniel doesn’t look good. Having David Martin move you with ease is never a good sign, especially when you are that big.
Davone Bess is working as the slot receiver with the first team.
Got me feelin like an old man filled with viagra in a strip club, i want football to start now! lmao
From Omar
I’ll admit Patrick Turner is a real smooth route runner, but I’m still waiting for him to make a WOW catch to back up all the hype he has.

I thought he made a "wow" catch yesterday,
buy scooping up a ball thrown well behind him on the sidelines.

Hype what hype??
everyone has been sayin what a bad pick turner was. If the Phins get a redzone threat that runs good routes I’ll be happy with Turner. I’m not expecting TO out there

Two Ohio State alums make catches of day: Ted Ginn in the back of the end zone, Brian Hartline leaping along sideline over 6-3 Sean Smith.
Hartline!
I hope we hear more good news from him!

Ronnie Brown had a nice big run to the left during inside run. Jake Long was handling JT on a couple plays today.
Oh man I would love to see that on video or something a nice leap, almost like the one the fullback in Denver did to us last november haha

From Edger Thompson
In 11-on-11, Chad Pennington was 3-of-7, with a pick, Chad Henne was 4-of-5, but was sacked three times, and Pat White was 2-of-5.
Yikes
That is some bad O

Seems odd...
that we’ve no reports on Tiwtter or on the media sites on how Grove is doing. Is no news good news? Or did Solai get the good push we read about today against our new center?

I know I read on one of the reports that the offensive line was doing a great job during "inside run" drills
and those are drills when the defense knows the run is coming up the middle.
The surprise until now for me... Henne not struggling.
Mark my words… this will not go away… I expect all of our fellow Phinsider bloggers to start the chant sometime during preseason…

Thanks Matty
I think you’re right. It seems there’s more talk about Solai and Dotson getting pressure on the passer. Either way, our newcomer Jake is not getting much press at the moment. It’s early AND he’s a center. Normally Omar Kelly is all over the line play.

I just want to get this over with and start seeing some real games. This is like foreplay before sex…I am just ready to get down to business!

Don't freak over the QB situation
This is day 2. Defense rushing the QB takes alot less time to gel than the offense getting into rhythm. If the QBs are throwing a bunch of picks and the line is giving up sacks in 2 weeks, be afraid
12-4 in 2009.
I was betting on Henne struggling early...

Henne not struggling, big arm got bigger, handling 80% of pre-season snaps? Ginn open deep consistently? I see dark clouds approaching...

I'm sure you've all seen this, maybe, but:
Edgar:
Tony Sparano said Ernest Wilford, who is working mostly at TE and H-back, will begin playing WR some more as things progress in camp.
What’s the point, we already have a good batch of WR’s.
Edgar:
Brennan Marion tore his ACL again, according dolphindigest.com, he’ll be waived/injured later.
From Thompson
After he caught a checkdown from Chad Pennington during 11-on-11 drills, Brown found himself a step behind 305-pound nose tackle Jason Ferguson, with no one in front of Brown.
Brown toyed with Ferguson who acted as if he’d give chase and Brown laughed and took off.
Rookie WR Patrick Turner bounced back after he had a couple of drops in the earlier practice. In one-on-one drills, he beat Will Allen deep, catching a perfect pass from rookie Pat White in the corner of the end zone.
Allen was impressed, telling Turner, "Good job 84."
Turner also beat Allen on a intermediate route a few throws later.
- White may have had his best practice, mixing a number of good throws in with a few that were off the mark.
