P Manning says young QB's need to play

On Tuesday, Manning spoke about the tough choice a team must make when choosing whether to send a rookie straight onto the field or let him spend time as an understudy before taking over as a more polished prospect, as his little brother did with the New York Giants.

"I can just speak for what I prefer," Manning said, "and Eli can give a different perspective. He sat for 10 games and started for the last six, and he said what he learned in the six that he played far outweighed what he learned in the 10 on the sideline. He said you just can't quite tell just how fast these defensive players are and just how confusing the blitzes are.

"That sort of reinforced what I thought: The best way to learn is to play. I remember how uncomfortable it was my third preseason game against the Chargers. I don't recall the stats, but I remember they weren't very pretty. I threw two to the Chargers.

"I think if you don't play, you're going to have that uncomfortable game, whenever it is you do. I think the sooner you do it, the better off you're going to be in the long run.

all of this kind of goes along with what troy Aikman was saying during the broadcast last night... to paraphrase... young QB's are going to take their lumps no matter when they first get into the game and no amount of sitting is going to get them ready for that.

saw that interview actually. I agree with him if you believe you have no chance of winning now w/ what you have. Obviously the coaching staff felt differently. I think they did the right thing in letting Pennington play because now everyone is buying into Sparano/Parcells program and we are an attractive FA spot again. I think the Jets know they have no chance of winning the championship regardless of who QBs so why not get Sanchez ready asafp. I think Tampa should do the same, but I think Raheem Morris feels like he needs people to get people to buy in first buy getting a few Ws. If we are start to struggle and are clearly not a champsionship team, by all means get Henne or Pat in there asap to get him some experience.

By all means...

put Henne or even White in there is Penne screws around or is hurt. Thing is, Henne played as poorly as I’ve seen him play vs. Bucs. When they play Saints, I really think Penne needs to stay on the bench and let Henne play 1st half and White 2nd half. If Fins lose, so what? It is the STARTING DEFENSE that will need to stay in to see how well they do against Drew Brees, Colston and the rest of the Saints good WR corps. No more crapping out against mediocre receivers like Stovall.

Well, this is another snake of the Henne/Penne medusa

What Peyton and Troy boy said is stating the obvious. Of course, hands on time will make you better. That applies to just about everything on the planet. But other factors play. Is he even ready to play? Does he have the team’s confidence? If he gets hurt, who backs him up (I know that’s what you want Penne for)? Can the D compensate if he can’t put pts on theboard?
