Dolphins to go After Another Cornerback?

I saw this last night and thought it was rather interesting.

According to Armando Salguero, he thinks that the release of Eric Green is not just a leap of faith in our rookie cornerbacks.

He thinks that the Trifecta plans on going after one of the other free agent corners who they believe will be an upgrade over Green.

While the release of Green was stunning, the Dolphins now have to create some decent competition for Sean Smith, the favorite to win the starting job. Vontae Davis nowhere near where Smith is at right now, so going after a guy like Mike McKenzie, Aaron Glenn, Patrick Surtain, and Sam Madison!

What do you think about this? Most of if not all would instantly be one of the oldest players on the Dolphins team, and wouldn't that be against the Dolphins religion?

lol. You beat me to it.

Yeah Surtain be where I’d go first then Madison.

I'm the proud maker of the nickname, Most Royal Conquistador.

Also proud owner of the weirdest comment.

I'm sorry, but

I watched Surtain the last year he was here in KC, and he does NOT still have it. He was great back in his day, but he has lost it. If we sign him, he’ll be gone faster than Green was.

Seeking inspiration to fill this space...

I wouldn't mind bringing in one of them.

I think McKenzie is probably the best option – but whoever it is, more competition is never a bad thing.

Mike McKenzie is 33, and missed nine games in 2008.... he has a history of knee injuries too....

… no thanks is my view…

I agree.

I don’t see them bringing in any FA CBs. I think they like what they have now. If they did bring someone in, it would only be because of an injury.

by luvs2drnk on Aug 20, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Remember though..

They might only bring in someone for competition, and if they perform well, then so long Jason Allen. Adding another CB would only be more insurance that Allen would get cut.

Also bringing in someone else might motivate Vontae a little more, and teach him some different things that Will Allen did not, or did not know.

JOey Thomas had a great morning practice though with a pick and a couple batdowns, so he could be the guy to challenge Smith and Davis.

We need to add another 1or 2 corners imo

Will Allen
Sean Smith
Vontae Davis
Nate Jones
?
?

Were gonna need 5 corners at the minimum but I think we should carry 6 in case of injury. Yes I’m not counting Jason Allen the guy is f’ing TERRIBLE

What makes you say that..for sure

1. He plays stupid
2. He sucks at safety and corner
3. He is extremely overpaid being a 1st rounder
4. He needs to be hidden by coverages whenever he gets on the field

Seriously the only reason he stayed on the team last year was because the Dolphins would take a big cap hit if we cut him last year. This administration did not draft him so they have no attachment to him whatsoever. I expect and hope he gets cut this preseason

when he cannot cover anyone for the life of him! Seriously this sentiment isn’t coming out of nowhere. Jason Allen hurts the Phins more than he helps

You must not have read my posts giving you specific stats about Jason Allen.

You constantly argue that we should get rid of him, yet you can’t give any specifics to back up your arguments. I’m not saying he doesn’t have room for improvement, but playing in 3 different defensive schemes your first 3 years in the league doesn’t help your development. Especially when you’re not playing the position you played in college. Obviously the coaching staff sees more in him than you do, and don’t blame the cap hit as a reason for why they wouldn’t dump him. It didn’t help Eric Green and his cap hit was almost as much as Allen’s would be.

Chris McAlister is a risky signing because he has terrible knees.... and he's 32.....

…. If he can stay healthy, he can be an upgrade… that’s a huge “if,” however.

I think Chris Mcalister would be sick.

I almost feel like the Dolphins knew they were going to cut Green the whole time. I think they knew that they were gonna draft at least one rookie cornerback, and wanted to provide some serious competition for them. With Eric Green, the rookie would know its possible to take that roster spot. If we brought in Leigh Bodden, then it would have been predetermined that there was no chance for the rookie to start, and thus he would not work as hard for the spot.

Ted Ginn is the man.

McKenzie...born in Miami....33yrs old....solid backup

IMO….Madison and Surtain’s best days are far behind them. maybe we can sign them to do color tv work instead of the old men we have now.

just making sure. Don't want anyone on here offended, Except JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJets and Brady fans.

Bills fans too except Temson and a couple of others. I think we should go easy on The Teal Deal (Jax fan), cause I think he is about to come out of the closet (that he is REALLY a Phins fan).

Oh yeah, definitely offend Vikings fans cause of how they treated DIB over in their blog.

McAllister is a known party boy

Parcells would never sign off on it. The Dolphins could go after David Irons, a free agent, or my favorite, McKenzie. I dont really care about his knee problems right now because he will not be a starter, just a contributor.

I had a Lao woman lived next door to me 25 years ago. She had a gathering of Lao people at her house one day

sitting outside eating picnic style. They invited me over to eat. I had a big bowl of their homemade kimchee and asked for 2nds. ate that too. Then I looked around and they were all staring at me with mouths open. I asked what was up. They said they had never seen a white man eat so much of their kimchee, all others thought it was too hot! I loved it!
