Oh Boy Is This Going To Start Something..

First let me say that I am saying this only because I want too.  I will probably read the comments later and see a bunch of arguing over it but I want to put my two cents in on it too.  Why CP10 is better for now than Chad Henne.

Star-divide

First off I keep hearing that Chad Henne is not getting a chance to play with the first team.  Think about this... If CP10 looks better with the first team than Chad Henne looks with the second team that says a lot right there.  CP10 is proven and Henne is not.  No he hasn't had a chance to prove himself but this staff will give him plenty of time in Preseason games.  What I am saying is all this hype about Henne is understandable.  We haven't had a franchise QB for a long time and CP10 is not the most entertaining QB but CP10 is proven.  What he did for us last year was amazing and I believe that one more year for Henne will have him ready to step up.

But let me say this.  If CP10 comes out this year and does real bad for a few games then I am all for throwing Henne in.  This coaching staff says they are all for keeping the best on the field and if it comes down to it just throw Henne in.  Just my opinion.  Tommorow we get to see everyone in preseason and I can't wait!

Why do you want to start a fight on a Sunday morning?

I do agree with you though. Henne just ain’t there yet and CP10 is. Everyone on that team trusts in CP10. They’ve seen him on 3rd downs, 2 minute drills, and red zones. He creates energy in the huddle when needed. His work ethic pulls teammates forward. He’s earned the right to start. If Henne can take in preseason, then sobeit- but it ain’t gonna happen.
Btw, as an aside, remember all those wildcat plays in the red zone? How do you think we GOT DOWN THERE in the first place?

I do look forward to seeing Henne LOTS (I hope) Monday. Or at least highlights, anyway.

I'm going to " trust the Trifectia" !!!

CP10 is our guy, …….period. He had a great season last year, except for ……….our HOME playoff game……UGH !!!

That is done & over with. The Trifectia is not going to put Henne in until it is his “time” ,……period.

So for me, I’m going to sit back, relax, and let those in charge…….be in charge. This is a very exciting time to be a Dolphins fan !!!! Come on everybody,……..enjoy the ride !!!

In the context of this thread...

why would you pick one Dolphin HOF’er over another? Because Marino lit up every defense he ever saw? or because of the perspective that Griese merely thrived in an offense designed to have a dominant offensive line and multiple talented backs to run behind it, and he only needed some receivers to get open in clear passing situations?

Let Griese keep Csonka and Kiick

And see how many more Super Bowls he wins too…Just pointing out the fact that Marino’s downfall was the lack of a running game. He never had one.

Griese stopped winning Super Bowls when he lost his running game too….

How many years did Marino play for the Phins and how many years did Griese play for the Phins!

Marino had his chances, no different that Griese had his. Fact remains, Griese has 2 rings, Marino none.

Besides with Csonka, Kiick & Warfield gone in 1975, could Marino have won the SB? The run was the Phins game in the early 70’s. The team was not built for a Marino then.

QBs are NOT interchangable like that. If you do not have the supporting cast to play to the QBs strengths, then the QB is going to flop.

To me a franchise QB is the one that LEADS you to wins, not passing records. If you get any of the other stuff on the way to SB wins, great, if not, who cares?

Henne could be a bigger bust than Cleo. Or not. He could be as great as Marino. Or not.

This team needs leadership, not prima donnas. We are one season past a 1-15 record. Last year was spent finding leadership and effort and ability. Why throw all that work away and start over?

Favre was a franchise QB. He is also a prima donna. EVERYONE hates him now.

Your logic doesn't fly PT,

as I heard you say on more then 1 occasion, this is a team sport, and I salute you for it, but now your on the other side of the argument, saying that Marino had just as much time as Griese? But did he have the same team? No, and this is a team sport, think about this, name me some other QBs who have won even close to the amount of games Marino has WITHOUT running support or defensive support.

by uncle finster on Aug 17, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I meant years of playing. Not the same teams or type of teams.

Xman said replace Griese with Marino and see how many more SBs he would have won.

I keep trying to get X to tell me his definition of “franchise QB” but he keeps ignoring that. It is very hard to deal with his arguments. He talks about “lighting up defenses” and winning play-off games, to the point that I think he is hating on CP10 just because CP came to us from the JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJets.

I have asked him what proof he can offer that Henne “will win play-off games that CP10 can not”

He ignores all that.

I understand his point,

I just don’t agree with it, and it doesn’t have anything to do with the Jets, I don’t think, he is just worried that Penne’s arm strength is going to hold us back, that may be true, but I need more evidence.

I think he can win surrounded by the right team, but, IF Henne were to blow us away in the preseason I would like to see him start, but that is one big

You know...

A QB without a super strong arm who has a great trio of running backs and a dominant front line, along with a defense built to control the game, would do great things…

Griese with Csonka, Kiick, and Morris, a great front line and the No Name Defense

or

Pennington with R&R Express + Cobbs, a up-and-coming front line, and a Defense that could become a great one?

If we rush a QB into a starting situation before he is ready, both physically and psychologically, we could destroy him…see John Beck.

Maybe making Henne wait isn’t a bad thing…

Does it ever stop?

ever? Can we talk about the other 70-whatever players on the roster? Here’s the reality: None of us can say what SHOULD happen, because none of us have the knowledge of what’s actually going on outside of some twitter updates during practice. Nobody has a clue how Henne handles things in meetings, what the team’s response to him is, his level of understanding in the offense, or if he’s even making the right reads in practice when he completes passes. Having Armando tell you that “Henne made a great throw on a deep out” doesn’t really back up any claims of him being ready to play. Or the future of the franchise. Or better than Pennington at this stage.

What we do know, however, is that Pennington was a big reason why we were in the playoffs last year, and his good play far outweighed the bad. I don’t understand why it’s such a bad idea to some of you for Pennington to continue to QB this team. Every single guy we’ve picked up or drafted since Marino has flopped, and now that we actually have one that DIDN’T suck, we want to chuck him aside and throw in another could-be flop? Cmon…

I actually think Henne will be very good, but I have no problems waiting for it. Especially when what we have at the moment is very good. When Henne earns his spot at the top of the depth chart, then it’ll be his time to shine. Until he proves to the coaches and the team that he’s the guy, though, we’re gonna have to sit here and wait. The 4-5 throws you see in practice don’t tell the whole story, and all of us Armchair Quarterbacks don’t have the insight into his performance to say he should be starting. I for one do not want to sacrifice a season to experiment with a QB. I’d rather wait for him to prove to our coaches that he CAN play, before he actually DOES play…

you keep telling yourself that

me personally, I’d rather make the playoffs year in and year out than suck, ever. Go ahead and sacrifice this season in order to prep Henne for a Championship run.. If he isn’t that guy? Now we suck again waiting to find somebody else. And while we wait for that somebody else? You end up with more crappy, Daunte Culpepper-types, and we’ll be hoping and praying somebody like Pennington can come in be that “stop-gap” until we find our Franchise. I have no problem giving the coaches another year to assess Henne before either A) casting Pennington aside for a guy who’s young and ready, or B) re-signing Pennington to hold the fort while we develop somebody else into the role Henne is supposed to fill (in case he doesn’t). We’re in a position, with a core of guys that are still young with a lot of career ahead of them, to be patient and get this QB thing right.

The one thing I'll say about that is,

you sound like we have made the playoffs for years in a row and have not been able to reach the next level, but as we all know that is not the case, let Henne earn it, after all Dilfer will never be confused with a franchise QB, but he has a ring, because of the team he had around him.

If Henne blows us all away this preseason, I’ll be on board with you X, no matter what Penne does, but let Henne do that first.

How do you know that CP10 is just "a gus ferotte, stop-gap, caretaking QB" ?

If you definition of a franchise QB is one who can throw 40 or 50 yard passes, then you are maybe spot-on. But if your definition of Franchise QB is one who leads the team to wins, play-offs and SB, then you might well be wrong!

and how come Pat White gets no love in these debates??

I don’t even think it’s about Henne anymore… it’s the “Anyone but Pennington” idea. Can we at least attack somebody who sucks? I don’t understand you, seriously. Hate Pennington, love Beck. Do you enjoy horrible QB play, and absolutely hate things accuracy and good decision making?

why not? he can make plays pennington cant. He's mobile. He shined in a miserable kansas city season last year. The offense really opened up with him in there.

Plus he made good decisions and over time he’d get even better

It can be argued that Baltimore was "progress-stopped" last year

They had a Super Bowl ready team, specifically the defense, which was one of the best in the league, and they were handicapped in the playoffs vs Pittsburgh

“Finally looking like a rookie quarterback in the playoffs, Flacco made critical mistakes that cost the Ravens in a 23-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in yesterday’s AFC championship game.”
- Source

He was a big reason why they lost, so why is that different from Pennington last year? Football is a year to year thing, there’s no guarantee he’ll be good this year, so Baltimore lost a shot at a Super Bowl because their rookie QB couldn’t get it done. We can say that the experience will make him better, but that team may never be better, and he may never actually play that well again. We don’t know. Every year it’s a crapshoot. IMO, you need to balance developing players with being as competitive as possible. If Henne isn’t ready to be the starter, then he shouldn’t be the starter. He’s still being developed. You don’t put that ahead of the rest of the team, who, with Pennington last year, was good enough to get into the playoffs.

but thats the problem right? next year when we are going to be completely loaded are we going to put henne in and go through whatever growing paints there may be? get him in now and have him lead this team.

there wont be a drop off. he doesnt blow. he’ll help much more than cp can

Henne doesn't blow?

Are you sure? What have you seen personally to bring you to that conclusion? Is it the same things you saw in Beck, that obviously don’t exist? Hate to say it, but your track record judging QB’s isn’t too strong..

You say he’ll help much more than CP can, without having a shred of evidence to prove that point. Chances are, he isn’t better than CP now, and probably won’t be. That’s just the truth of the matter. Of course I want him to be, and I hope that he is a franchise QB, but there’s 32 teams, hundreds of QB’s, and most of the teams STILL can’t find a capable QB. Knowing this, you still seem to believe we have 2 of them? I hope to god that you’re right, and that he doesn’t blow, and that he is the Future of this team, but the odds are against it.

You keep pulling up beck as if its like a slap or an insult but it has no relevance right now.

Cp has done nothing his entire career to warrent such great admiration. And he isnt that consistent great pro you see season in and out. theres a reason he won two comeback player of the year awards…its because he just cant do it every season.

I’ll tell you one thing…the longer we have cp the greater the odds of failure will be. Just reaching the playoffs isnt good enough for me. I want to win them. With cp we cant do that, but with henne we atleast have a shot

Sorry Nicky,

you can’t have it both ways, you can’t say no one knows about Henne, but you know that Beck sucks after 5 games, the jury is out on both, and you make it sound as if what Beck can or can not bring is written in stone, you can’t just take one side of an argument when it suits you.

by uncle finster on Aug 17, 2009 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

maybe we both saw different John Becks

He was pretty terrible every chance he got. And he obviously was not very good in practices last year either because he couldn’t hold the job over a late 2nd round rookie and a career backup. I’m so tired of debating whether or not Beck sucked, when every time I watched him, he sucked.

by Little Nicky 21 on Aug 17, 2009 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What your not getting is,

that is just your opinion, whatever you think about him, just like for X, Beck will still get his chance, just like Henne.

Troy Aikman rookie year, lousy team, played in 11 games, was 0-11, 52.9 comp.% 1749yds, 9 TDs, 18 INTs.

That is PROOF POSITIVE you cannot judge a rookie QB based on his first year, those are AWFUL numbers, and yet he is in the HOF.

I am just as tired as you debating this, because there is nothing to debate, because his career is not over, therefore it is guessing, you may be right, only time will tell.

eving the right team's three maybe four sb & then everything has to be right. no one superstar

let’s go back say when we had pereniel losers, such as the (MINNOSOTA VICKINGS) oh & (BUFFALO BILLS) for the sake of argument they were to play each other in a sb which one of these team win’s???
i would have put denver in that class, but we all know what the coach did for that team. he had a brain & went out & got his team a center, & offencive line, a very good running back. (John Elway) was very happy!

There's been worse QB's to win Super Bowls

I’m glad to see that you have zero faith in a team that was in the playoffs. Cancel the season guys, we won’t win the Super Bowl with Pennington. You know what? Only 4 teams can play this year, the rest have no chance. See you next year..

the team has faith in pennington. and that means a whole lot when linemen are busting their asses every play. they believe in CP10 and to take that away from the team is an insult at the point and time.

Drew Brees was more than "aaight"...

and he didn’t make it to the playoffs. It’s the mentality like yours that has made the Dolphins suck since 2000, where QBs were changed like dirty diapers (something like 12-15 different starters last 10 years). Almost all of them had the same expectations you have of Henne. (Reports suggest Henne’s been throwing alot of interceptions this training camp.) The team responds to the leader…not the talent. If CP10 can lead the team to the playoffs, anything can happen from there. I never expected a 9-7 team to be in last years Super Bowl winning with less than 2 minutes left. Not to mention, the Eagles almost made it to the Super Bowl. Is McNabb a better QB than Pennington?

his numbers

peformance, and inclusion in the MVP race disagree with you. In fact, I truly believe that YOU disagree with you in this instance. Think hard, then tell us if you really feel that Pennington was just alright (you’re not allowed to say aiight) last year. Chances are, if your brain is working, you won’t feel that way. PLEASE go back and watch some games from last, because you obviously forgot everything outside of the Wildcat.

btw I'm done arguing this

it’s incredibly boring and pointless. When people start saying that Pennington was only “aiight” last year, and that we will NEVER win with him as the starter, I start to fade in and out of consciousness due to the lack of intelligence spewing from the computer screen.

wins arent guaranteed in this league

so we need to stick with what works, and until its broken we worry about henne. CP has gotten the ball rolling for miami again after we went 1-15. and until that ball stops rolling, hes got his job locked up.

what will be annoying is after every turnover or failed third down, ppl r gonna be all over CP and want henne.
