ok - it really isn't very smart to cut guess the final cuts before they make their first hits but most people round here wouldn't say i'm very smart...

i do want to say i'm cheating a little by putting Roth on the PUP ... but i just get the feeling that he is sitting out for contract reasons.... which these guys won't give in to, or he is seriously hurt and they'll put him on the sideline for the first 6 games to get in game shape... with JT playing well...

the other issue i have right now, is with out seeing the new wedge rules in effect, i'm unsure how a sick body killer like e walden plays out on with the new rules... if the wedge really is gone and a guy like allen/london is really a better STer then walden doesn't make the team and they'll carry 10 o-liners....

and finally you know the staff wants to get rid of a long snapper who doesn't do anything else... just a dead roster spot...but i havne't heard of anyone other then JT doing any long snapping... am i missing something. so JD makes the team until i hear of someone else... btw: if it shows up the guys in blue i see as PSers.... (ps i was too lazy to look up which garner/gardner is going to make the team and which one is going to make the PS ... so if i cut the wrong one let me know and i'll change it in the next version.

and editorial comment.... wow they are old and thin at middle LB .... it brings into question the davis pick when ray ray and some others where on the board and once again with the white pick... but then again ilb is likely and area that they can grab a vet after the league cut downs.

they won't cut denney

that would be one of the dumbest moves in the history of dumb moves. a long snapper is a specialized position. Jason Taylor can’t be a long snapper and outside linebacker.

yeah he was a TE/LS.

but then in later years just became a long snapper. he was good. but I still think it would be a dumb idea to have a guy like Jason Taylor be an SOLB/LS. It isn’t a fit for Jason Taylor and I think John Denney is doing fine as of right now. I can understand if Denney got injured and we had someone else long snap but it makes no sense to get rid of a long snapper then what if Taylor got injured? You know what I mean? That is the last thing I would want to see happen.

Okay, here goes:

i understand the argument. but the counter argument makes as much sense… 1) that Taylor is and has been the backup LS for years; 2) that if Taylor was the primary guy, someone else would become the backup, so either way you are talking about two players; 3) if you make the primary or backup someone else besides Denney, who actually fills another role (like the actual 3rd TE – Nalbone, Haynos, Martin or a reserve LB or OLine), you free up a valuable roster spot.

how many guys do we take to the game each week that don’t play? Backup C/G, etc.? Train one of those guys. LSs rarely get injured, so you are not taking a huge risk. Let JT continue to be the emergency guy, and let a 3rd guy practice at it in case the your starting C/G gets injured and your LS has to step in and play that position as well.

the point is simply embracing Sparano’s belief in position flexibility. why have a guy who has to be on the active roster every week, who takes up a roster spot, and only has one function? Kickers kick FGs and KOs and are usually the backup punter. Punters punt, sometimes are the FG holders, and are the backup kickers. What else does Denney do? When have you ever seen him play TE? Why have 4 TEs active on gameday anyway?

I understand your point

and it makes sense. But I think it just makes more sense to me to have an actual long snapper then eliminate his position and have other guys fill in for it. It is just how I feel about it.

DIBT - but you dont just dump the guy you have now before you find someone for that dual role! I don't think using JT is a great idea.

I was trying to get you to name a player that is available to replace Denny.

I figure that the trifecta has definately looked at this situation, such that their predeliction is to find good players that can play more than 1 role. Since we still have Denny, I assume that there is not anyone available that meets their criteria!

I wouldn't cut a long snapper...ever

they have one of the least respected jobs. They have to get the ball to the punter or place holder in like .5-.7 seconds. they have to make sure it is a good snap also or else it could be costly. and they also have to block the second they snap the ball off.

And while I’m here, damn good post!! The only thing that sticks in my mind is the five or six wide receiver conundrum. I think that the team has an option with Pat White. He can be set at receiver as well as QB. So they could conceivably keep only four receivers, leaving an open spot.
