the point not covered in this story was carpenter's crappy kick offs last year and his inability or the teams unwillingness to trust him from more than 50 yards.... so why do i bring this up .... well duh.... cause i have to write 75 words just to point out the the phins signed a kicker cause there isn't anyone else to sign and they have 4 open roster spots... so don't be surprised if they sign a punter to challenge the shanker in the next couple of days.

don't know what to think

carpenter was money from 45 and in last year, but his range stunk and his kickoffs where worse
and we all know the reason they kept him/took a chance on him last year was they didn’t want a kicker in the papers every week yapping about the team….

so with the open rosters spots and no one left on the street until the first cut downs…. you have to know that they are going to try and put some pressure on the guy to improve.

nobody carries backup kickers

of course he’s our only leg – or was until now. But don’t expect much from Barth.

well few teams carry backup kickers

i’d say that every year there are 1-3 teams that will carry long kickers or backups in cases where their kicker is nursing an injury (say the ?giants? last year)

yeah - but

the kicking motion and the punting motion are two totally different things… and being strong in one doesn’t ensure that you will be strong legged in the other….

on top of that – i have very little faith in fields…. while he was better at the end of the year vs the start… them shakes/shanks of his still greatly bother me.

these guys aren’t taking 3 kickers into week 1… heck if they could figure out how to play without one i have no doubt BP wouldn’t bat an eye cutting all of them.
