Still no word from Vonnie Holliday? Any benefits signing him?
I was always a fan of Vonnie, and when he was cut by the Phins I was sad but at the same time understanding: it's just business. Now it's the second week of training camp, and I haven't heard or read a word about Vonnie being signed by any team. Would the Dolphins get any benefit from signing he back into the team? I mean, they can pull a Taylor (sign the humbled player for less than before). And Vonnie would bring experience and another strong voice in the locker room. Are our defensive ends so good that we don't really need Vonnie? I'd like to get all your thoughts on this.

well I also loved Vonnie
I think that the Dolphins are waiting to see if there are any injuries at the DE position, which might require bringing him back in. But other than that I’m not too sure what is going on

I wouldn't be surprised to hear...
that Vonnie has been re-signed. Looks like none of Vonnie’s replacements (Merling, McDaniel, and Starks) are really differentiating themselves.
I think they were counting on one of those guys to step up their game. Vonnie would be a good stopgap and he’s solid against the run.
I’d be for this signing.
It is sad
Especially when you read his comments after the cut saying something along the lines that there is no loyalty in this business. I loved him too but not only do I not see any benefits, I only see consequences from signing him at this point. If we sign him, it would only lengthen the time before we can see what Langford and Merling can do on the line. It is obvious that they are ready to play and if we sign Vonnie, that would only interfere with that.
Let this season BE GINN!
This is not a problem,
he won’t take snaps from either guy, Lankford is the starter on the other side, and Merling would back Vonnie up like he did last year, they are going to rotate the line no matter who starts so there are plenty of snaps to go around.

veteran leader that wud be an asset to have on our dline, starter or backup
preferably back up because im just the kinda guy who likes to see ppl who cud be potentialy star players start rather than a solid veteran whos past his prime.

I'll take a whole "no name" team.
Everyone does their job, each a cog in the wheel, and the juggernaut methodically, irresistibley, marches down the field
(’cept with maybe a Larry Little, or two).
Larry Little is the man.

i appreciate a team like that
but truly enjoy watchin playmakers. guys like demarcus ware and larry fitzgerald are juz fun 2 watch.

yeah, I saw that as well.
Bummer. But, at least we know how he plays. Doesn’t he play the right side?

well since they tried to redo his contract
and he refused …. i doubt that he will relent at this point…
plus what has changed with the phins to want to make the move… he was labeled a progress stopper by the team and i don’t see how playing him over the young guys now and taking a roster spot from one of the young guys is going to help the the forward progress of the team…
I like vonnie, but just like the lame ducker, it’s likely better if he plays for someone else now since he won’t be playing in 2 years when the team will likely have the talent and experienced youth needed to challenge for a superbowl.
Chad Pennington - The Lame Ducker aka the progress stopper.
So do you think the Jets intentionally did it to screw up the organization or was it just an unintended side effect of their move.
WOW!
Me and WNYFF agree on something!
nice work!
Yeah I can’t see Vonnie coming back either. His first sentence says it all.
But I would be happy to see him come back as a backup. Why not? He would be a great leader to the young guys.
