Chad Pennington in 2009
So what exactly do we expect from Chad Pennington in '09?
Can he be successful and even surpass his 3,653 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions? History has shown that only once he has completed back to back seasons in his career.
However, I'm not trying to be negative. In fact, there are three reasons I believe that Pennington will build on his spectacular season last year and avoid Comeback Player of the Year in 2010.
-Experience- Last year, the Dolphins signed veteran Josh McCown and drafted Chad Henne along with John Beck who was there from the disastrous 2007 campaign. In the first preseason game against the Bucs, it was immediately apparent that there was a desperate need for a starter to emerge quickly. Chad Henne was the bright spot along with John Beck. But McCown really stunk it up. Little did I know, that before that game the Dolphins had signed Chad Pennington to compete. Well, I know you can imagine the relief all of us felt at that time. Of course, he returned to OC Dan Henning which he was originally with in New York. But I am sure the thing that impressed you the most was the fact that he came during preseason and the success thereafter was truly impressive. So now, he will go through training camp with one year experience in this offense.
-Contract year- This is Pennington's contract year and usually when Qbs especially play out their full season in their contract year you get exceptional effort. That was true of Kurt Warner last year with the Cardinals and it can be possible this year. This by extension is the approach the Trifecta is also taking to Ronnie Brown as well.
-Improved running game- When Parcells and Co. first came in here one of the things associated with his teams is that they pound the football on the ground early and often. Last year though even with the WildCat, there was lack of true running game simply because of the injury to Donald Thomas and then the loss of Justin Smiley. Plus u have to factor in the rookie Jake Long as well. So even though we're not sure about that RG positon we absolutely got a great pickup in C Jake Grove. He dominated most defensive tackles especially pesky NT Vince Wilfork. Even though the Wildcat will continue to be implemented in the offense, do not forget that the Dolphins are a run-first team physical and maul their opponent. Its what we call smashmouth football. The Dolpins have two backs in Ronnie Brown who is gunning for the best year and also Ricky Williams who even though he is on his last legs who run downhill.
These are my reasons
Lookin forward to what hopefully can be an exciting season.
Is it September yet?

I may be in teh minority here...
But i’d be content to let CP10 continue QBing until he quits producing. I realize the need to get Henne reps and such, but im not big on the idea of switching to Henne just for the sake of switching to Henne.
If we get another career year out of CP10, why switch to Henne automatically? I say if we get another good year out of him, we extend his contract for another year and let him keep going.

I agree, and if chad flops for any reason
We have Henne to fall back on

To fall back where???
To me, today, Henne and Pat White at QB are the same… Henne could line up and really stink it up… We will only know after a few games. I really hope Henne pans out… but realistically, young NFL quarterbacks are a bust unless proven otherwise.

Your absolutely right. He is a bust until proven otherwise, but I’m not saying he is the next joe flacco. It’s just about who would you rather have as your back up. Chad Henne or Cleo Lemon? LOL

ringtone intill futher notice, I will disregard all qb related comments by you...John Beck lit it up that game and its because of this stubbornness we do not have our franchise qb with a season of experience under his belt
of experience under his belt. we have the pennoodle and have an unexperienced henne.
Why are we sticking with a caretaker….thats our problem. When someone shows promise we bring in a progress stopper. Please…please…can we have a qb that will last more than 2-3 years. Please can we have our franchise qb. Pennington is NOt it and will NEVER be.
I believe in John Beck and that Cbdolphin is the man. I'll make you proud LCFF

X - just as a thought, mind you possibly a far-fetched one, but a thought none the less
Would you still say that about CP10 if he brings home a SB win this year?
Was Griese a “franchise” QB? Was Marino? Which one played in the most SBs? Which one WON the most SB’s?
I would say he is a magnificent Qb and will go down in Dolphin Lore
But my definetion of a franchise qb is one that consistently each year leads our team at a high level for a long extended period of time.

Okay X, just checking here. I agree with YOUR definition of franchise QB. I am tired of all the people who
think that the definition is a QB who can toss a pass 400 yards in the air. It is all about ability, leadership & team play in the right mix, not just arm strength.
whoa
hold on there
i guess i was somewhat harsh
my bad
now that i remember John Beck did a heck lot better
but im really sorry
