Least Favourite Off-season move

Okay, following the fan post your favourite move or non-move of the off-season I thought well what about your least favourite move by the team as this is always something thats likely to get a debate started.

Plus there is the option of following this up at key milestones in the season to see how opinions change.

Topics to pick from:

  • Players cut who may come back to haunt us and we all know about that, i.e. Vonnie Holiday (mainly cut due to money), John Beck (personally I think this was a mistake, but we'll see);
  • Players that we allowed to leave, i.e Andre Goodman or Renaldo Hill, both good players in their prime but both fulfilling key roles;
  • Players that have been bought in via free agency or trades i.e. Grove, Burger, Daniels;
  • Positions not strengthened through the draft, i.e Defensive Tackle;
  • Positions over recruited in the draft where we could have picked up one player and then someone else for the second player i.e. Corner, Wide Receiver;
  • Realistic Free Agent Acquisitions, this is a tough one what do you class as realistic? Well for the purposes of this I would say players that wouldn't have killed the salary cap;
  • Somebody signed to a multi-year expensive contract, you don't think deserves it, can't think of any example of the top of my head;
  • Players not already signed to multi-year contracts and so coming into contract years, i.e. Ronnie Brown
  • And any other player based changes that have occured or not occured during the off-season that you didn't like.
  • The easiest way to do this for people to but the move they didn't like in the topic of their comments and then if people can comment below, so its easier to scroll down and look at what the thoughts are. (I was going to try a ballot, but there were too many options, but if a top 10 comes out then I'll try that as a follow up.)
    Thank you for comments (in anticipation of your participation)

Not drafting a DT.

I personnally dislike that we haven’t got a bon a fide backup at DT, Ferguson is old, but very knowledgeable and is the perfect mentor. Currently we don’t appear to have anyone that is really standing out as his successor and I thought it would be great if we had drafted a DT to develop this year and take on the mantle over the season.

I second DD's comment about NT

Otherwise I like the moves made.

Have to reserve opinion on draftees to see how they do.

Agreed......STUD NT NEEDED.

However, I have complete trust in the Trifecta & think only so much can be done each off season. The secondary was also “hit-up” last year ( it seems liked we got burned on tons of deeps balls…….most notable….Brett goes deep week 1…wins game……..that still stings!). So, it appears that position has been shored up which leaves me pretty happy.

I guess the jury is still out on,

Cohen, Ellis and Soliai, but I agree, Terrance Taylor, or Sammy Lee Hill, or somebody would have been nice, but if one of these guys works out, then no harm no foul I guess, hope there not takin us round the bend on these guys, ay DD, lol

i liked how goodman was playing towards the end of the season.

however, i do like smith and davis better, but just saying if things dont work out perfect, i would be a little upset that we let goodman go. but really, i have all the confidence in both smih and davis at CB… so i guess that shows im pretty happy with all our transactions thus far.

AG couldn't tackle me

He shied away from contact more than Ted Ginn does. That doesn’t work for the Big Tuna.

I noticed that

But I think he was trying to be safe with the ball, not have an INT and then return it and fumble..but i did notice how he always shyed away and fell on the ground after he picked one off.

that's what bothers me

about ginn. he seems scared. i don’t know if he has that “it” that you need to be a special player.

no, but i thought towards the end of the season he was playing much better

I was pissed

when we released Vonnie Holiday. That made me mad. I thought they should have at least tried to work out the contract with him. I thought he was a great guy and it was sad to see him go like that.

He was taking PT from our young guys and he was making to much money

At some point we need to find out if Merling and Langford can play

by Souwantmyname on Jul 24, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah but

he even said he was willing to take less money they just didn’t go into contract talks with him. I was a huge fan of his and thought he could have at least done one more year then retired instead of just being thrown out like we did to him. He still had at least one year left

He wasn't getting in the way of anyone playing,

Langford was the starter on the other side, and split time with Starks, and Merling split time with Holliday, no matter who starts they are going to split time with someone, and we don’t know right now if we have a good replacement for Holliday.

I agree

I think that was one of the dumbest moves this offseason. He still should be part of the team

I would have liked if we skipped on Hartline

And maybe picked up G Duke Robinson…..But I like what Hartline brings to the table and we’ll see what he can get done here

Ernest Wilford is still here.

Nobody is gonna trade for him. They need to get over it and dump him.

Ditto Eric Green.

Eric Green

was signed not that long ago…he hasnt even had a chance to play yet..Let him prove that he sucks and then we can say he sucks…How a player is with Arizona may not be how he plays in Miami

Alright

I’ll let up about about EG. Good points.

we just have to wait and see. That is why I am hopeful because we have yet to see how everyone does

I wouldn't say I'm dissappointed with any offseason moves.

However, having said that, there are some moves that I’m not sure about.
     The Hartline pick seems superfluous. I mean, we’ve got a couple of guys like him already and it seems we have a logjam at wide receiver with no one really leaping into the limelight.
     And I guess we were building for the future with Pat White, but again it seemed to be a luxury pick. We needed a nose tackle and probably another strong guard.

Obviously, I would like nothing more than to see both these guys succeed at this point. They’re Miami Dolphins.

Least fave moves...

Fins shoulda kept Holliday (at the very least, to mentor Merling) and Satele (just because Grove is injury prone and there is basically no depth at C). Also why Hartline? Actually I think WR is one of their deepest postions. No DT? Maybe, but they must think they have something in Soliai (who I think is lazy, but who would know more about him than the trifecta?).

As for Holliday, I’m glad no one has picked him up, so that perhaps he might wind up back on Fins if necessary.

by snorky on Jul 24, 2009 1:19 PM EDT reply actions

that we

missed duke robinson and instead picked up brian hartline

by Jte27 on Jul 24, 2009 1:36 PM EDT reply actions

i was very unhappy, to see holliday let go. he was our leader on d in tackel's but progress has to take all!

it’s like when we lost zack thomas, it is sad the way he is ambleing from team to team. you can tell his heart is not in it (no want’s to keep him)!

by wild zion beaver on Jul 24, 2009 3:48 PM EDT reply actions

Didn't like the signing of Eric Green

not only because there were more promising players we could have picked for much less money but because he has struggled in this league covering the deep ball and is already struggling in camp. Now I know I shouldn’t write him off before he plays a game for us but i just have the feeling he is going to get beat out in camp by one of the rookies and only contribute as depth.

As for Hartline the reason we picked him up is because he was basically handpicked by Chad Henne and has the chance to emerge into a very nice reciever.
