Who Sits?
I read an intresting delima for the Phins on ESPN that Pat White creates. If they start Pennington and use White in the Wildpat, then Henne must be the 3rd string emergency QB. This would mean White mops up against the Pats and Jets when we are up by 30 in the fourth quarter . This gives White a big advantage as the Quarterback of the future. He will be the one getting the seond string snaps each week, not Henne

henne, cp as back up (we should trade him though), then white

your post isn't entirely accurate
if henne is the 3rd QB, he can still come in for mop up duty in the 4th, regardless of whether or not CP and White are injured, and CP and White can still rotate back in.
But that only applies to him entering the game in the 4th quarter.

however I think it will be White at 3rd string.

no to "what if it to death"
but what if CP10 gets hurt in the 2nd quarter, but only needs to miss a series or two. Then you bring in the emergency QB Henne and CP can’t re-enter.

Future prediction...
Because of the wildcat’s use of QBs who are actually better runners and receivers than throwers, I predict in the next few years, they will change the rules (calling it the Pat White Rule) to allow “wildcat QBs” to enter and exit the game as needed to run the Wildcat/WildPat/Wildhog/whatever
by snorky on Jun 26, 2009 9:48 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That does not seem likely.

question
question last year ronnie brown jumped in as qb in the wildcat but henne was the numer 2 on the depth chart. so my question is if they list pat white as running back or widereciever on the depth chart would he be able to freely go on and off the field in the wildpat and not affect henne’s playing status?

Yes he would
but that would cost us a spot on the roster, I don’t think he’s worth 2 spots.

Correct
if he is listed as a WR or RB they will have to change his number.

I say CP10, Henne, and no 3rd QB
Change Pat White’s uniform number if you have to, but make him the starting Flanker:
then you could use him whenever and wherever you wanted.
He might have to play some special teams, but he’s a good athlete with size and speed and he would be great as the holder on kicks (and maybe the punt protector guy as well for fakes on punts).
QB Pennington, Henne
RB Brown, Polite
RB Williams, Cobbs
TE Fasano, Turner (WR), Bronson/Nalbone
SE Ginn, Bess, Armstrong
FL White, Camarillo, Hartline
I’m not saying he’s a better receiver than Bess or Camarillo, he’s got a lot of work to do on route running and catching, but just as a threat on reverses, reverse pass/run, fake reverses, quick slants, lateral WR screens, sneaking deep on a fly, he’d benefit the PTR offense with Ronnie and Ricky, and this doesn’t even take into account the flexibility of morphing into the triggerman for the Wildcat at a moment’s notice. I’d be willing to start him at the beginning of the game, then if the Wildcat doesn’t work or we need more of a receiving threat, just sub him out for a real WR like Camarillo or Bess (or Turner). It’s one of those deals where he starts the game and the second half, but the other players eventually get more plays and playing time.
Note: I also thought of using Patrick Turner in a role that they seem to be trying Wilford in. Use Turner as a backup TE like David Martin, split out wide or going into the pattern from the backfield. He would generate some mismatches. Just a thought.

Seven WRs?
plus no 3rd QB roster exemption? How many spots do you think one guy is worth?

They are not going to list White as a QB
It is that simple. He will be listed as a wr or rb this season. That way they can still use him in a wildcat formation off and on and still have the CP10 and Henne as qb 1 and 2

If that was their plan
they would have given him a different number, of course they can change it, but I think they are concentrating on him as a QB.

It would be funny if.....
they make Paul Soliai give up his number and give it to Pat White……..

White will be the #2 QB
And Henne will be #3 emergency or else the Dolphins just won’t use the roster exemption and will lose one roster spot somewhere else.

i dont understand teh problem at all
cp plays
white backs him up (only because he is an integral part of some of the formations.
henne is 3rd string in case pennington goes down (which he wouldve been and was last year when he was the second string qb. he saw no minutes unless (knock on wood) cp went down).
so i ask you
what is the damn difference henne is not slated to see any minutes this year so he is “officially” our number three
white needs to be able to play so he is our number two why is that so hard to understand?
and look at our schedule if you think any of those games wont be close you need to look again.
ill wait for you
go look……..
see
i told you so

I do not think so..
What is the sence in running the wild cat with White in there when the other team will ALWAYS see the phins yank cp10 and put white in? They can change personal if they know white is comming in. Furthermore.. he is NOT THAT GOOD of a QB. Anyone who thinks they are going to have him as #2 qb has to be smoking the “draft draft draft” pole. He had HORRIBLE OTA and mini camp showings..
Pat White is not the missing piece or answer to the puzzle here in Miami.

dude stop hatin on pat white…
agree the defense can change there personel when white comes in but what white brings to the table is versatility. put white in and they try to put everyone on the line like the ravens did, white can easily make the throw to anyone of our weps on the field, ricky, ronnie, cobbs, ginn, bess- whatever combo is on the field at the time.
plus OTAs are better suited for pocket passers and pat white has a totally different skill set. not smart to judge him on how he has done so far
apologize in advance if i have said something dumb or incorrect

I am judging him on history..
And what he has done so far. It is the “norm” Q.B.’s like PW never end up leading their teams to the big show. White is the typical running QB. In college, as far as I can tell his mindset was always “run first.. pass if there is not any holes to run through” This NEVER works in the NFL. Now dont get me wrong.. it would be awesome to have a great QB who could also run like white.. but white is not a “GREAT QB” by any streatch of the word. Deal with it.

uhhh no
This gives White a big advantage as the Quarterback of the future. He will be the one getting the seond string snaps each week, not Henne
Henne has been working with the seond teamers for awhile now, thats not changing

look at the rule for #3 QBs
you can not bring them in and take them out any time you want. If the Dolphins don’t have flexability with Henne, then White would have to be ready to step in, therfore he would have to prepare each week. I am not advocating this posistion just posting on the situation as I see it.

Theres a solution to this.
What the dolphins will most likely do will be, that they put CP10 as 1st QB, Henne as 2nd QB, and Pat White as a WR. That way both Henne and Pat can play without sidelining one of them for the rest of the game.
