Dolphins sign 6th round pick OT Andrew Gardner

This makes two rookies that the Dolphins have now signed - with TE John Nalbone as the other one.

The Sun-Sentinel reports the deal is for 4 years and worth a total of $1.65 million.

does this mean he wont be put onto the practice Squad? If we only keep 9, with Long, Carey, Thomas, Smiley, Grove and Berger, Gardner who else makes it? I would keep 2 guards since we lost both starters last year. I would put 2 OL on the practice squad if possible.

if a player

is picked up off the PS, does he have to go onto the 53 man roster of his new team? What happens to his contract?

I believe that team assumes the contract

But to get on the PS, you are first waived. So I’m not sure how the effects the player’s contract.

I'm afraid

we are going to lose some of our guys during this period. But i’m sure the FO is is already salivating on some guys
that might also get cut. If Gardner and Ellis get put on the PS, i dont think they’ll be there too long before the scavengers pick them up.

Gardner...

Was slated to be a 2-3 rounder before a shoulder injury sidetracked him in November. He’s was a great value pick and should help fill the backup LT spot, which was unmanned last year.

Matty - Salary Cap Question for you...

I’ve been thinking of this for a while, and I haven’t really found the thread for it, so I am going to put it in this one since it talks about money.

JT’s contract got me thinking. When you have an incentives ladden contract, how is that counted against the salary cap? Maximimum amount? Base amount? I have no idea how that works.

it has to do with “likely to be earned incentives” and “not likely to be earned” incentives….i’m really not too sure.

Add on some random amount some dude somewhere in the NFL offices decides and that’s his Cap #. Got it.
