Quick WR Poll: What should Miami do?

It's the middle of June and there are some big name WR's out there. Some carry some baggage, but there are a couple of BIG, TALL targets that honestly could be extremely beneficial to our passing offense. On the flip side, these guys carry some baggage and will more than likely cost a good amount or jeopardize a draft pick or two, which some people here believe would not be a likely way to stick to the plan.

Here are some options and a poll after the jump...

Star-divide

Brandon Marshall- recently stated he would like to be traded. A big physical target who can get up and get the ball. Baby T.O. has led the league in catches before and paired with Pennington's accuracy could be a valuable red zone beast if he came to Miami. I will admit, as a UCF student, I am always rooting for him, and was a class act guy when I met him in Orlando. On the other hand, Marshall has had plenty of minor infractions with the law, including a handful of domestic disputes, and has publicly stated his 'beef' with LB, Joey Porter. But If the price is right, and he and Peezy put their differences aside, would we be willing to sign this Florida Native?

Plaxico Burress- recently released, this WR has proven he can be a valid #1 receiver and can take your team to the super bowl. However, his middle name should be "baggage". He recently shot himself in the leg, has not played since the incident and was subsequently dropped by the G-Men. A tall lanky receiver who plays more like a Randy Moss then a Terrell Owens. His hands are like glue, and since he is a free agent we can probably get him cheaper than Marshall. But would it be worth the risk???

Anquan Boldin- Another Florida native, this WR has been shadowed by the pure athleticism of his teammate Larry Fitzgerald. However, his ability is still quite apparent. Dolphins fans will vouch for this as his 3 TD game in Week 2 gave us the biggest beating all season. Another physical WR who can take a quick screen and break it 80 yards to the house. Although he really doesn't carry any baggage at all he would likely be the mostly costly option. Would the price be worth it, or would shelling away too much in exchange put us farther from our "plan to rebuild"? Note: Anquan Boldin is still very much a member of the Arizona Cardinals. Boldin has publicly stated he wants more money and I included him in this talk because he has suggested that he would love to play in Miami if the price is right.

Marvin Harrison- I threw this name in here as a wildcard. Talk has died down about this multiple time Pro Bowler and he remains a Free Agent. Although he is not the BIG target Miami is searching for, his knowledge about the game and route running is as good as it gets. However, if you remember he has also carried some legal issues around with him. Yet as a mentor for our young recieving core could Harrison be the answer, a 'Jason Taylor' like presence, but on offense. The price could be cheap, but do we need him, and are you sure he would even put up a productive season?

None- Our guys proved last year that we can get it done. Our run and gun style works perfectly with Pennington's quick accurate release, and although our WR's are on the shorter end of the spectrum, Bess, Ginn and Camarillo have the heart and as one phinsider put it "blue collar" like work (i liked that) that is a signature for this team. Patrick Turner, many believe could be that diamond in the rough, that big target we have been looking for. No doubt, our passing offense looked solid last year, and we did so with under-the-radar players that don't put a huge dent in the FO's wallet. Yet can Ginn. & Co. be the effective Red-Zone targets (an area that looked sub-par at best last year) that the Dolphins need to reach to get to that NEXT level.

I'll let you decide.. I've provided a breakdown for each player... which one would you support the Trifecta making a run at? Let's see how Dolphin fans view this controversial subject!

Which WR would you support trying to make a deal for?

Any of the 4, if the price is right each player mentioned could be a valuable asset

None. We have all we need to contend and spending money/picks at this stage is not the answer.

Keep the

$$ and the picks for the next year. I think we can get it done with our current receiving corps.

Good Post Dude.. !!

I voted for “None”, stay the course… though I an tempted by Anquan.

I believe that what the team has would be enough, if not more than enough, to get it done all the way. It’s a team effort, so each area will have to do their job… receivers, RB’s, QB, each area on the defense too… to have a chance. Not just a receiver or the receiving corp will get them there.

Well done big B.

I like your write up....

but I don’t like the choices of your poll question. The Phins aren’t ready yet to contend for the Super Bowl, but that doesn’t mean we are only a WR from being contenders. Other units need depth and added personnel as well.

Build through the draft, so what if it takes a year or two longer. It’ll be a better way to be a perennial contenders.

the more this issue goes on

the more i cant help but think b marsh would be amazing on this team. if they could channel his energy and attitude into a positive thing to pump up our recieving core the way joey porter pumps up the defense, it would be amazing. however, i wouldnt take him for the big price tag he wants. he would have to take a paycut, and play for the team, not for himself. and i dont really think he could do that. but IF he could, this would be an enormous addition to our team.

when jag's were nothing they had desire, when they were good they had contempt.

now there are in obsoleat, they can’t seam to stand on own to feet. the owner don’t want to spend any money, even if is to upgrade offence. now just want’s to set back & count his millions!!!!

Well i could say something snazzy

but i must rather like to disect your comment.

-Yes we’re “obsoleat” tho i think of it as it life support mode.
- I think we do spend money on guys, we signed david garrard and Mojo to big contracts didn’t we? Also we went and got Torry Holt. Just saying
-Its pretty safe to say Wayne Weaver doesn’t have alot of millions to count since Jaguars are a small-market team.

Alright i’ve had my fill.

by TheTealDeal on Jun 18, 2009 8:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

well let's take a look at your comment's

let’s hold off on that life suport remision. your team spend’s money on your QB. well they were the one’s that want him & the owner doesent want to look like he made a mistake. to be sure look at the avg. price for a starting qb. 9or10 mil.(if your good) 11or12 (if your great)……… let’s look at that wide reciver you picked up torry holt. man he was one of the great’s, ino cuz i had him on my leauge’s back in the 1900’s. but he’s no repeat no leader, at best he is a rich upgrade & he will help out from time to time. if your wayne weaver can’t aford to spend, we’ll come back to that. he own’s a football team worth 100s of millions, sell it to someone who will. enough said i’ve had my fill.

by wild zion beaver on Jun 18, 2009 9:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You've tempted me again

so i’ll have to respond again.

A-‘your team spend’s money on your QB. well they were the one’s that want him & the owner doesent want to look like he made a mistake.’

First off, what the heck? of course we’ll spend our money on our QB who is reliable enough to warrent it. I don’t understand the they were the ones that want him stuff, and lastly i just think thats speculation.

B. “to be sure look at the avg. price for a starting qb. 9or10 mil.(if your good) 11or12 (if your great)………”

Yes that would be the average price for Tom Brady and Peyton Manning but most teams don’t have them. As far as i know only 2 teams have them. Look at Chad Pennington since he’s at Miami now, does he make that kind of cash nooo. He gets a couple million less.

C." but he’s no repeat no leader, at best he is a rich upgrade & he will help out from time to time."

I agree, we got him because he consistient and has leadership, might I also add the similarity between our teams that leadership among our 3 young WRs is a plus in a veteran Wr.?

Lastly, " if your wayne weaver can’t aford to spend, we’ll come back to that. he own’s a football team worth 100s of millions, sell it to someone who will. enough said i’ve had my fill."

I don’t see how he hasn’t spent. Before this offseason he signed Jerry Porter to get 10m guareenteed off Free Agency along with Drayton Florence, both were released this year. Now thats just a example of a bad waste of money that we spent on them. We also spent when our 1st round pick, DE Derrick Harvey held out. He got a big contract. As long as there is fans in the stadium Wayne will keep the Jags. I wish i could drink that watermelon Kool-Aid with you but i cant. Not when it comes to my Jaguars.
