The NFL Draft
Since things are a little slow with news (unless we get more intelligent info from Rex), I figured I would go back into the early days and discuss the changes in the draft from 1966 - 1993. In the early days of the NFL, when there were fewer teams, the draft had 17 rounds(1966-1976). From 1977 - 1993 the NFL draft had 12 rounds of player selection. In 1993, the NFL decided to reduce the number of rounds to 8 then the following year reduce it to 7 rounds. In Miami's history we have had some great players selected in the later rounds of the draft. See List below. I couldnt imagine not having Mark Clayton teamed up with Mark " Super" Duper, but if there was only 7 rounds in 1983 then he might not have been on the team.

there were also a ton of less teams then 32 back then.
it wouldn’t work now with so many college players. That would mean we would have to cut 50-70% of our rookies before every season. I love the draft but it drags on after Round 3, imagine waiting around for round 14.
Laces out!

Suck it Pats, Bills and most of all... the god damn jets.

With the 17-18 game schedule imminent...
I think we will see an expansion of rosters and possibly an expansion of the draft.
More games more injuries, more free-agents, and ironically a greater “cost” to NFL teams. Sure the revenue will increase, but so will the cap numbers to include all the injury settlements and “doomsday” free agents who are likely higher profile vets that carry a big price tag.
Considering the success of the draft, even Day 2, and the huge amount of collegiate free agents signed post draft- Why not go back to 10 rounds?

Keep it the same
because drafting is an art form and even good drafting teams can miss sometimes (Shula did some super drafts like 1976 and some in the 80s, esp. 83, but had some terrible ones as well, like 72 and 73…and the one good player drafted, theiessman, went to the CFL, and Mike Kadish went to the pro-bowl with the Bills I think, other than that, no one. and didn’t Geroge Wilson do that awesome 70 draft?)
Now supposing there were 12 rounds in 2008. do you really think the fins would have been able to get Davone Bess and Dan Carpenter if there were 12 rounds? I highly doubt it.
between 2001 - 2006
we didn’t do too good with 7 rounds, maybe because we kept trading our picks for washed up QBs.
