The Debate On Pat White, Should He Start?

Well, the offseason offers so many questions that are really hard to say until the season has started. This is one of those questions. It's definitely not a new topic but it's one worth talking about. Yes go ahead and shower me with insults after you read this post but don't get me wrong, the question of the title can actually be answered in two simple sentences. Should he start, maybe. Will he start, No. Yes, if Henne and Penne both get injured, yes he will start. The chances of 1st and 2nd stringers both getting hurt, slim. It's been made clear by the Trifecta that Pennington will start this year if he stays in Miami and stays healthy. It's also been made clear Henne is wanted as 1st stringer by 2010. Where does that put Pat White? God only knows.

The Trifecta will want to see White alot during the preseason. Seeing if he can pull the same Quarterback scrambles he pulled in college. Seeing if he can run the Wildcat well, and whatever else White's got on his agenda. However with only three preseason games this year, the Trifecta might want to see more Henne than White. But there's no question whether or not he's got talent. Reason one, he's a hybrid player. That's one reason why the Trifecta drafted him. He may be a Quarterback but he can catch a ball just as well as he can throw one. So we might see as much White action as we did Ginn last year. Penne to White, just thinking of a 84 yard Touchdown from Penne to White makes me emotional.

Whether we'll see White as a Wideout or a Quarterback we will see am at least once in a Regular Season Game I'm assured. I have faith in White.....just look at my sig!

He will be used sparingly in the “WildAss”, but not much otherwise. He has a great deal to learn first and it won’t be learned in this first year…..

I think they could use him for complete drives to throw defenses off a bit. He could be in shot gun for one play, then more to WR on the next. Maybe for a 2 minute drill….

We have 4 preseason games

and Henne will most likely get most of the snaps, but we’ll see plenty of white, until the regular season starts, where I believe he will serve in a very limited slash role where he will be in a “wildpat” package, which I believe will be a different package then the “wildcat” that we run.
Remember he is a rookie, he did not play WR in college, he has more on his plate then most rookies, you don’t want to give him too much too soon.

like henne, he needs time. and imo i dont think we need to rush white or henne to get into the starting role, unless CP sucks or we’re not winning.

All of that talk about Pennington

being the confirmed starter in ‘09 and Henne being the starter in 2010 happened before Pat White was drafted. All of that goes out the window IMO, and we’ll have a REAL QB battle this year, unlike last years duckfest.

im a firm believer that either henne or white should be starting...that way we can go through growing pains now..and contend

well said & uno the more stress we can give a coach,(b.b.) team (patseys) the better!

let them wallow in selfpitty, that every team had a chance to draft the leader of the whitecat offense but just past him by dallas thought but when he wint off the board they left the first round all togeather jerry junes his hands in his pockets he was hopping of corse he wont admitt. why else would a team move right out of draft, on day 1 that by some experts say didn’t have a hole lot! & next year’s draft should have a lot more.
