Wake at RILB?
With the Jason Taylor signing (thanks to Daniel Snyder for generously participating in the rent-a-player for a 2nd Round and 6th Round pick Dolphins charitable franchise-rebuilding program), what about Cameron Wake moving to RILB?
I realize that he is raw, but he seems to be above average in coverage, is a great athlete, jumps well to bat down passes over the middle, could cover backs and TEs better than OLBs, and could run sideline to sideline making plays.
Would make blitzes up the middle interesting and he could always loop around on a stunt with JT.
Just wondering if he would be more of a liability than an asset.
A linebacking core of Porter, Crowder, Wake, and Taylor sounds nice on paper, but may be detrimental in live games. I sure would like to see it late in games that are blow-outs.

This guy is an OLB at best
He played DE in college and in the CFL. He can maybe be converted to OLB in the 3-4 scheme (I say maybe, because he’s an unknown comodity in the NFL right now). No way can he be moved to inside. It just doesn’t happen in the NFL.

I thought
he played LB in college and moved to DE in Canada

He was kind of a 'tweener
I watched him play at Penn State. They used him at DE and OLB, but he was listed as a LB and that is where he primarily played.

It's a good problem to have.
Crowder and Akin in the middle, Porter and Taylor outside.
Wake and Roth can rotate outside and keep Porter and Taylor fresh for our playoff run. Porter had no gas whatsoever by season’s end last year.
Taylor can even rotate in at DE. He and Porter or Wake coming from the same side is a nice thought… I like JT moving all over to keep offenses guessing, it would also help to hide any weaknesses in his game, because he is not the same JT he was a few years ago.
Welcome back JT,,,,

Can Wake become this era's Bryan Cox?
Play ILB on 1st and 2nd down. Play OLB to rush the passer on 3rd down. Bryan Cox lead the team in tackles and sacks in ‘95 doing just that. Why can’t Wake do the same?
OLB’s move to ILB enough to make the transition plausible. Urlacher did it for the Bears. Brookings did it for the Falcons. While not common, it can be done.

ummm....
Let’s not have anyone try to be the next Bryan Cox, we need him to make tackles not overrun them and then get a 15 yard penatly for unnecessary roughness.

Cox was a very good player
Parcells loved him when he was on the Jets. Parcells even went so far as to say that Cox would have fit in with the NYG teams that he coached in the late 80’s.

I just hope
JT can really mentor Wake, because they have a similar body type and if he can just teach him all the ins n outs of pass rushing in the NFL he can really be a beast

I still go with you put your best players on the field...
We’ll have Porter at LOLB, move Roth to LILB, Crowder at RILB, and Wake at ROLB. Taylor would rotate in and out w/ Wake or Porter. Ayodele would sub in with Roth, and Crowder would be our 3 down LB.

yeah actually thats a pretty good idea
What Roth does best is stop the run and given that he is the worst pass rusher i’ve seen in a dolphins uniform, he could very well play the ILB position next to Crowder because he is a beast.

What of Cameron taking the 1st of his four year contract learning from a master?
Larry Little and I both wore 66 in our football careers. I think that means something.

You Have Brought Up
a very interesting blog that obviously is greater than our collective minds can handle. How to use these talented, yet differing set of skills, I’m gonna leave to the coaches. The practices will tell us where these guys are gonna be used, and how.
I’m intrigued by Heater’s linebacking corp he proposes. These guys are better than what we had last year in different positions. NJDolphan makes a good sense with his corp too.
I think that some of this will be the decision of what happens with the front three. The two defensive ends specifically. It may turn out that a front four would be the base defense because of the talent there (or lack of it in the LB’s). Time will tell.
One thing’s for sure. The defense will be far better (especially at corner/safety), and ti will be a tough, knock-your-block-off, pressuring defense.
It’s interesting how the team went from [what the hell do we do] because there wasn’t enough, to, [what the hell do we do] because THERE’S MORE.
Thanks for the post!!

I agree
a great situation to be in, we’ve got to excellent veteran OLB, a good ILB and some good prospects all across the board, hopefully this will make up for not taking the OLB’s in the draft that alot of people got really hung up about.

I like Roth at ILB opposite crowder, Wake at ROLB
Ted Ginn is the man.

The guy has done nothing in the NFL yet!
Shorts and a T-shirt and he is better than average at coverage… He had a one track mind in the CFL, Kill the QB…. lets wait until training camp…. maybe even the first preseason game to see what he really is!
