Pat White reminds me of...

It's way too early to project who the draft picks will be most like because we haven't seen them in action against NFL caliber talent.

But since OTAs and scrimmages and games are far off, I was wondering if in your draft analysis you saw Pat White play and thought, hey, he plays like...

So, to pass the time until organized team activities arrive, vote on who you think PW is most like and if the person you think he is most like isn't in the poll, make a comment "nominating" a QB/RB/WR you think Pat White is most likely to become.

Which is why I went with Kordell.

Pat will be used alot like “Slash” was, at least I hope…

ugh... i just never liked stewart

i never really thought vick was all the great either, because he wasn’t that great of a passer compared to what you need at QB. Let’s just hope White is better than both.

Haven't we already decided, though

that Pat isn’t going to be a “QB”?

lol

So far through camps, he’s been a QB as far as I know.. I don’t know if that means anything, and I still think he could much more versatile and dangerous as a WR and part-time QB.. but we’ll see how the coaching staff feels. TC is going to be very interesting

Nicky-

If you, the hot shot blogger, hotty totty, presumptious SOB thinks that he could be more valuable to us as a WR and part-time QB, well, then I have no doubt that that’s what will happen.

Book it, folks.

ugh

i actually never wanted Vick on my team. I always thought he was over-hyped. So no – he is NOT the one player you want on your team. And, in my opinion, he never, ever was.

by Matty I on May 11, 2009 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i agree...

like i said above, i never really thought that much of Vick as a starting QB. He was a solid running threat and could make plays with his legs, but he was never a great passer. i believe that the prime requirement for a QB is passing ability, and then if you get a guy with legs like Vick that just adds another dimension.

And I am hopeful that this is what we have in White… a real solid passer with an above average ability to scramble and run.

I'll be upset

if he doesn’t contribute better than “the other Vick” (Marcus) did for us a while back..

Marcus

That Vick was our Savior.

If we’re comparing Vicks, Pat sure as hell better do better than Marcus.

Haha :) What a high floor I’ve set for him..

nope

I’m 100% certain that I never liked him – just as I never liked Reggie Bush and said before he was drafted that he wouldn’t be the next great back….despite what some believed.

LIES!!!

hindsight is 50/50 matty lol

sure its easy to say that now

but when the guy is the consensus best player in the nation, heisman trophy winner, and an electrfiying athlete…come on matty…

and with vick…im 100% positive you had him somewhere around your top 20 qb’s. right behind eli manning, jake delhomme, and in front of steve mcnair…

lol its ok. we were all wrong about him…but in general one cannot say “mike vick sucked” and actually have watched him play lol

i didnt say mike vick sucked

what i always claimed was no team would win a title with him because those kinds of “run first, pass second” QBs do not win super bowls. and he was far too inaccurate when he did actually pass.

as far as Bush goes, I’ve been saying it all along. I thought he was good, but wouldn’t be great in the NFL because of his lack of size. He wasn’t an every down back and we now know that he clearly wasnt an every down back. And what I kept referencing as the draft approached to my friends was that both Reggie Bush and Ronnie Brown measured in a 6’0 and Bush weighed nearly 30 pounds less. He was too skinny to take the pounding an every down back takes.

Turns out I nailed that one.

by Matty I on May 12, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the problem with scrambling qb's is that they are basically the offense...i honestly cant think of a scrambling qb with a good cast behind em

look at players like

randall cunningham —> was the team but defense could never step up to the level
mike vick —> was the team …no offensive cast…put up numbers and led team – minimal defense

doug williams not really considered a scrambler but he had the wheels…and he did win a super bowl

steve young used to scramble

use the bush logic on brown as well…browns been injured as much if not more that bush..

What??? You should know better than to think Bush is a bust

The only valid reason you could have had back in the day is that you somehow predicted right that he was going to be extremely injury prone therefore not worth a 2nd overall draft pick. However, as for the sports part, the kid has been trully unbelievable since the first time he set foot on the football field. He is a game changer and a true super star. If not for the injuries, meaning if he had been healthy the whole time Ronnie Brown has been he would make you question why the hell we got Ronnie with the 2nd overall pick as well.

by MauMontaV5 on May 12, 2009 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The truth is that Reggie isn't an everydown back

and he isn’t a between the tackles runner. He’s an EXTREMELY dangerous weapon, and should be used in more ways than just taking a handoff into the back of his line, but as a pure RB, he’s not that. And that was the case when he came out of college as well. He shared the load with LenDale White, who was the big, bruising, inside runner, while Reggie was the slash and dash outside runner. This was obvious well before he was taken #2 overall.

but I wouldn’t say he’s a bust, because he’s still one of the most explosive and exciting players in the league. And with the offense they run in NO, with Brees slinging it around and 3-4 WR’s on the field, Bush can be NASTY. There might not be a better player in the league when they get in the open field, and he definitely knows how to find the endzone. If they stop running him inside, and use him more often in the slot or in motion, he’ll live up to his hype.

its hard to put him in any of those catergories of people because he brings a bit more to the table and he will also get a chance to run an offense that goes towards more of his skill set in the WildCat.

We will have to wait and see what his story will be ..

The thing about Pat White...

Is he sells the fake better than anyone else I’ve seen. On every video I saw the defense was moving the way he was faking it. This is a offense that relies on catching people out of position and catching them cheating to the strong side of the field. He’s has the quickness to sell that fake then get outside of the tackles to make things happen. Let’s go Fins!!! This season is going to be fun to watch.

Seneca Wallace all the way

If anyone remembers the way Iowa St. ran their offense with Seneca behind center then you know what Im preachin … White still scares me… not gonna lie… but Parcells and CO have a better eye than me..obviously…

That's who I voted for as well

moreso because of how I expect him to be used with the Dolphins. I think it’ll be similar to how Wallace is used in Seattle, as a threat at WR, used for any trick plays, or at least the threat of a trick play, and as a part-time/backup QB.

Steve Young hopefully...

Wishful thinking on my part. Young is one of the greats of all time. Hopefully White can manage the passing game like the former 49er, and run with power and speed when needed.

a wild bug hit me just this morning

i’m not the smartest cookie in the jar but whatja think (sanarieo) by end of camp we trade c.p. to minnesota & then trade c.h. to san francisco? i mean next years draft is soposeto have so much beter & if we realy have the next vick in camp y not get three #1’s! couse on the flipside of this coin we realy want to give this kid as many reps as we possably cannow this is a streach but say we bundle those three #1’s & pick up tebow as his back up that would be real fire power or some other senario.

unless white REALLY makes a good showing..

I see him listed as a WR or RB and just used for a version of the wildcat in some form. I dont see him as our next QB. Has parcels ever drafted or relied on a running QB before?

by MainePhinFan on May 11, 2009 11:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Jeff Hostetler (NYG, from West Virginia BTW), Ray Lucas (Jets), Quincy Carter (Dallas)

I wouldn’t classify these guys as “running” QBs but more as “mobile” QBs with limited arms.
I think White could make a name for himself as a slash type player who is a legitimate threat to throw or run out of the slot, backfield, or out wide, but don’t discount his possible future as a QB.
Right now the greatest threat to NFL quarterbacks with the prototypical size is an aggressive rush/blitz that sacks or pressures the big arm QB into mistakes or fumbles.
As long as Pat White is a throw-first QB who makes good decisions (throwing the ball away is a good decision) and uses his legs/elusiveness to avoid pressure, keep plays alive, scoots for first downs, and distracts safeties/linebackers in coverage, he could lead Miami to playoff wins and championships even if he is only 6 feet tall.

Abandoned the Draft Sean Smith at #25 Bandwagon to Join the Draft Sean Smith at #61 Bandwagon and get Vontae Davis and a 5th Rounder. Trio > me.

The Miami Dolphins and Pat White are a matchup meant for greatness

Once it is all said in done; he will be the greatest steal of all the drafts from the 2000s Decade; most likely the greatest pick.
