Report: Dolphins "negotiating" with Jason Taylor
With the Dolphins' decision not to draft any pass-rushing outside linebackers this past weekend, it was widely expected that they would seriously consider bringing back Dolphin legend Jason Taylor. Well, not surprisingly, there is a report that claims the Dolphins are indeed talking with him about a possible return to Miami:
The Dolphins signed Cameron Wake this offseason and are currently negotiating with Jason Taylor, as are at least two other teams. (Yes, that is breaking news but we kind of assumed that would be the case anyway).
While we don't know who the "two other teams" are, I think we could all safely assume that the Patriots are probably one of the teams. If I had to guess, I'd say that Tampa Bay is the other team - as there were reports the past few days that indicated Tampa could become interested in adding Taylor.
It'll be interesting to see exactly how much the Dolphins would be willing to pay Taylor - or rather, how much of a discount Taylor would be willing to come back to Miami for. It's been widely written and said that Taylor wants to come back to Miami. If that is indeed the case, then there really shouldn't be any reason as to why he isn't a Dolphin in 2009.

This is what I'm hoping for
and after Miami decided to skip on OLBs outside of Folsom and Orion, I figured Taylor would be a near lock to come back. If he values his public perception nearly as much as some figure him to, he would take a pay cut to come back to play for his former team.
We're all goin' down to the creek tonight; it's gonna be a gas! You're comin', right?
yeah I hope JT comes back and finishes his career as a fin I would hate to see him go to New England

i would hate to see him in any jersey but miami's
its fitting he ends his career in miami— he’s one of the best players in the history of the franchise. and him coming back will only help us as a team, but also our newer players. He better not end up in new england haha

Agreed agreed agreed.
Since we didn’t get any kind of OLB/DE impact pass rusher in the draft, I think this would be GREAT for us to bring him back for a year or two, and to also let him finish out his career with us. Forget that little year long hissy fit we had with each other, and come back to where you belong, Jason! We all know you are a Dolphin, and that you want to be here!
C’mon, BP… Get this done!!

Oh, I'm Here...
I read almost all th blogging, but sometimes I just don’t see my opining will add anything that hasn’t already been said. But as you can see (and well know) I get my silly digs in.
I think mostly is that I’m eating crow. I was the one who stood on the Dolphins picking a running back the first day cause of some of the situational speak that was going on. I was wrong — big time.
Don’t get me wrong, I love what the team did in the draft. A mostly skilled position type draft. I think we needed it, and it was done well.
So I’m with ya Lefty, even if I’m a little slow…. 8-]
good to know there are still some old timers around
amid all the new faces (handles).
=)
I think the Fins will be looking to develop a RB to allow them to let Brown walk if they can’t come to terms on an extension. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see them pick up a guy during cut downs.

Parcells isn't a marquee RB type of guy
He believes you can find decent talent at running back almost anywhere. Since they already have Brown, Williams, and Cobbs this year, it wasn’t a priority for the draft. Next year, even if Brown stays, Parcells will draft at least one running back, but most likely not till the 3rd round, maybe 2nd if we have multiple picks. This is all assuming Parcells sticks around next year.
totally agree
but there is a pretty solid Ronnie fan club around here that you might offend by making such a statement.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Ronnie Brown.
But the bottom line is if he asks for too much of a raise next year, Parcells will cut him loose. Look at the backs Parcells has had in his years of coaching (round drafted); Joe Morris (2nd), Curtis Martin (3rd), Julius Jones (2nd), and Marion Barber (4th). The only RB I can think of Parcells taking in the 1st round is Rodney Hampton, who wasn’t half bad during his rather short NFL career (two Pro Bowls, 5 1000 yd seasons). I’d love to see Ronnie back in ’11, but chances are slim as long as Parcells is calling the shots.
no, no, i am still on the same page.
luv ronnie, but RB is one of the easiest positions to fill nowadays, assuming you have a decent line.

You know, there is one thing noone has brought up
For many reasons, it would be interesting to have JT back on the team. But how about this? With all the new guys, how about having some additional leadership. I mean, that has always been one of JTs strong suits. He is a natural, fiery, and vocal leader, and with question marks like Vontae Davis (question marks in terms of personality and work ethic), how much better would JT make the team to have him and Porter keeping the young pups in line?
I think that intangible benefit alone is worth bringing JT back…. assuming he is willing to come in and work hard in the offseason conditioning program with everyone else.

Call me crazy
But I think TO will be on as good of behavior as you can expect out of of him considering he’s only signed for a year and will want to cash in next year. I’m not too worried about him though considering him and Braylon Edwards lead the league in dropped balls. Not to mention Trent Edwards is gonna be on his ass all year with no one to protect his blindside.
As for JT, I can only hope he comes back as long as he is in better shape than he was with the Redskins. I was kind of disappointed we didnt pick up any pass rushers in the draft. The front office must think more of the LB corps than we do or they were expecting to pick up JT after the draft. How awesome would it be to loan the Redskins JT for a year and get Pat White and then JT back. Even if he does come back our LB’s need to be addressed next year with both JT and JP’s age. Hopefully Cameron Wake is the real deal though.
Oh
TO will act like a total saint for a while and just when he has everyone sucked in then it all blows up in there face. Just wait till he goes out and has a couple of good games and the Bills decide to give him an extention.
I think that next years draft will be much deeper. I think we will find what we need then now that the secondary is seemingly taken care of.

Personally I am not for bring JT back
not really against but I would prefer our youngs get every snap available to each. I want to know which of the many “upsiders” really have upside so we can either move on and replace them next yr or know we are set at the position
Confidence breeds success, self-doubt breeds failure
more talent
we need as much talent as possible in case someone goes down. 1 year removed from a great year, he must have something left in the tank. Sign him for 2 years, great for the younger guys, plus him getting a SB ring would be great. He could show it to ZT.
Miami Dolphins 2008 AFC East Divison Champions

with
Porter, Wake, Roth and Taylor getting after the QB, that would be awesome. Hopefully all of them getting 8-14 sacks each.

Don't forget
Langford and Merling as well. With a better rush from the outside LB’s that leaves them with more one-on-ones.
