**Dolphins select Brian Hartline in fourth round**
![]() |
|
With their fourth round pick, the Dolphins have selected another wide receiver - Brian Hartline. Hartline checks in at 6'1 5/8" and 195 pounds. He ran a 4.53 40 yard dash at the Combine back in February.
At Ohio State, Hartline caught just 90 balls in 3 years for 1,429 yards and 12 touchdowns. Below is his scouting report from Draft Countdown:
Strengths: Good athlete...Adequate height and decent bulk...Big, soft hands...Is smart with good awareness...Nice ball skills...Tough and physical...A great special teamer...Excellent blocker...Competitive...Hard worker.
Weaknesses: Just average speed...Doesn't get a lot of separation...Isn't a vertical threat...Will drop some catchable balls...Has a tough time beating the jam..Not overly productive...Never a featured target...Limited upside.
This pick I don't really understand. Perhaps it says something about their confidence in Brandon London? Or maybe Greg Camarillo is still a ways off from recovering from his ACL tear? I think there were other needs here to be addressed and another WR wasn't a priority at this point.

Yikes
The Trifecta are getting way too much credit for being The Gods of Football.
No pass rusher, no nose tackle, no receiver but a couple warm bodies.
Yikes.

Still
Parcells’ track record earns him my trust, but I agree – these are some strange choices…

Don't Understand
With Chris Baker 6-2, 325 Hampton; Sammie Lee Hill, 6-4, 330 Stillman; Terrance Taylor, 6-0, 305 Michigan available. Where’s the big body for when Ferguson goes down? Paul Soliai? Joe Cohen? I could understand getting a big-bodied WR. Turner is a goal-line talent but where’s the meat on the line?

Terrance Taylor!?!?!?!
I would have loved him here!!!!!! This pick makes no sense to me either

Hartline appears to be
A player drafted to be a top-quality special-teamer. We all know how poorly our ST unit performed last season.
Turner seems to be that guy we’re taking a chance on to develop into a big, physical receiver. Hartline seems to be the special-teamer with upside.
Granted that doesn’t mean the value with Hartline was necessarily great. But I can’t imagine we drafted both Turner and Hartline to compete with GamCam, Bess, and Ginn.
We're all goin' down to the creek tonight; it's gonna be a gas! You're comin', right?

I trust Parcells judgement
But why Pat White, what are they going to do with him? And the second reciever I’m sure they could have waited and picked him up later, why so soon, there had to be better talent on the board.
I really haven’t seen any good things on any of the picks, but last year was a bunch of lunch box players from the draft too, nobody sexy and look what they did. Besides that with 11 picks, they should be able to upgrade from last year. And hopefully JT will be back…. We’ll know when the season starts rolling what we have. But with Parcells you can second guess his track record. Check out how many of his late round picks turn out to be successful. The last few rounds may be the best of the bunch.

you know what... i am beginning to wonder if Parcells is really involved in these picks.

That's a scary thought.
Is Ross sticking his nose in, or maybe they are transitioning more football decisions to Ireland?

I was thinking this also
it certainly doesn’t seem like your typical Parcells action and Ireland has to do it eventually. Parcells could be gone before next draft.

I have a feeling
That Camarillo’s injury is more serious than we know. Turner will probably take over for Wilford. Turner is good (from what I’ve read) in the red zone. Hartline will fight for Cam’s spot. But now with 2 picks in the 5th, 1 sixth and 2 7th picks, I really hope we pick up a DT, OLB AND ILB plus OL help – one each of T and G/C. It would make the draft full of potential. What do you think?

Camarillo is a "tweener"
even if his injury doesn’t keep him off the field, he is not real big, or real fast. he is reliable and has a lot of heart.
but if you can have a big target that is not real fast, or a fast target that is not real big, as long as the run good routes and catch the ball, you have an upgrade over camarillo.

Not sure what to think.
I get that we’re still rebuilding, and probably still in that first stage of rebuilding where you’re just trying to upgrade the overall athleticism of your roster. So you try to get guys who are athletic and hard working and could play any of several roles. Maybe they’re not going to work out as a starting WR or LB (not that we’ve drafted an LB, but I’m talking about LB-type bodies), but they’ll do until you get those guys, and then they’ll make great special teamers or can be packaged up as trade bait.
All that said, we really do need a backup/future NT and some additional beef along the OL. I guess the Trifecta think it’s more likely that those guys will still be available in the later rounds than that these skill-position guys would.

Could have gone for Sammie Lee Hill here
but maybe they have their eye on Antonio Dixon 6-3 320 DT Miami FL as a UDFA
Not sure if Harline could have been picked later, but he looks like he could be a bigger, faster, better blocker, and better special teamer than Greg Camarillo

After the great 3 picks on day 1 I thought we were on the way to a great draft—today has me wondering if tuna did too much partying last nite—thought there was better talent available than who we drafted—usc recvs havent really sparkled at the next level recently—i hope im wrong—i do like the s from clemson-he should help out

No one can know how this draft will work out for a few years yet, so I’m not worrying one bit. What makes Parcells and company great at drafting players is their ability to coach up what they draft. “Use the force, Luke” (and the biggest force in this star system is Bill Parcells).
Take care of the little things, and the big things will take care of themselves.

“we meet again…oceantracks..”
Yep.
Day one was cool though. I am anxious to see Vontae put some big hits on the AFC East receivers. He looks great. Sean Smith, who knows, but looks big out there. I can’t get over the reporters whining about Davis’ attitude. As if Joey P and 20 other players out there don’t have a cocky attitude. Cocky is good as long as you back it up. I think he will…

Don't Understand !?!
I am not sure what it is that you don’t understand about this pick. This guy showed a lot of promise before a change of philosophy at OSU.
We had glaring needs at both WR and DB. We stockpiled!!! It something that Ireland and Parcells have talked about in the past—creating competition at each and every position. We have decent LBs and decent DLs. Our most urgent needs were WRs and DBs. Now, camp will be filled with both, all trying to win a roster spot and/or starting position. I love these picks!!
What this tells me is that we might be seeing JT back in a Phins uni come training camp and I couldn’t be happier about that. (now if we could just get Zach back and switch him to FB I would puke with joy!!!)
Go phins!! I miss home!!
