**Dolphins select Patrick Turner in third round**

The Dolphins have begun their day two festivities by selecting USC wide receiver Patrick Turner. Turner is a huge receiver - measuring in at a little over 6'5, 223 pounds. He also has over 33" arms. But he does only run in the 4.6s - which is fine for a receiver of his size.
As a senior at USC last year, Turner caught 49 balls for 741 yards, and 10 touchdowns.
Below is Draft Countdown's scouting report on Turner:
Strengths: Good athlete...Great size and bulk with a huge frame...Runs excellent routes...Very strong, physical and aggressive...Terrific ball skills and body control...Good hands...Plays a little faster than he times...Runs with some power...Can beat the jam...Tough and will work the middle.
Weaknesses: Severely lacking when it comes to timed speed...Is not very quick or explosive...Doesn't get much separation...Isn't very elusive...Sub par blocker...Not a deep threat...Minor durability issues...Limited upside.
I like the pick - though I wonder if he could have been had a round later. Either way, he'll be an interesting guy to watch at training camp.

Its just strange
I don’t mind the pick, and I know we’re supposed to trust parcells and ireland 100 % on everything, but it’s just a reach. Plain and simple we could have got him later.
We got our big strong receiver.....doesn't have to be fast
We have Ginn for speed….this guy can work the middle & can reach over defenders…I like the pick!
+ A bear to bring down after the catch &
adjusts well to poorly thrown balls….nice compliment to Ginn!

This guy reminds me of Herman Moore when he got drafted by the Lions...
I think he’ll make a difference pretty soon for the dolphins. Accurate QB + Huge Reciever = Win!
25th pick - CB Vontae Davis
44th pick - LB Clint Sintim
56th pick - DT Ron Brace

Really?
Herman Moore was a top 10 pick. 1st or 2nd all time in receptions at University of Virginia. Patrick Turner is an underachieving albeit a talented guy who could have been had in later rounds
I don't think he would last to later rounds
Receivers going fast this year & he was a big need for us!

How do you know he would've lasted?
I don’t know what jobs you guys have but mine isn’t building Football teams with a PROVEN track record!

We needed a big reciever
I was hoping for Barden but Turner seems like a solid big goal line reciever, now I’m hoping for RB Rashad Jennings expecially since this will be R & R become free agents at the end of this season.
barden 6
I believe in John Beck and that Cbdolphin is the man. I'll make you proud LCFF

Here's hoping...
Sparano, et al., can improve those sub par blocking skills. A receiver that big (and slow) has to be able to pancake some people in the open field.
good pick
I’m a Dolphins fan living on the west coast, so I’ve seen alot of USC games and I think Turner will be a good receiver on goal line situations. All Pennington will have to do in the red zone is throw the ball up high and he’ll go get it: you don’t need speed for that. Guinn is the speed guy, Turner will be the middle of the field guy along with Best, but Turner will definently be an asset in the red zone.
Pat White...
…is he Cordell Stewart lite? This type of player rarely ever makes it in the NFL…Gotta deep six Pennington & start Henne if he is good enough…if not, maybe Derek Andersen or Brady Quinn…been 10 years since we had a quarterback, do not wait any longer. Turner should be useful, how he develops against quality CB’s & Safties will tell the story.
