**Dolphins select Vontae Davis with the 25th overall pick**

After much waiting and much debating, the Dolphins have selected cornerback Vontae Davis. Davis is immensely talented but does have those "character concerns." But he's got the size and speed that Bill Parcells likes. And this fills the most glaring weakness on the roster.
Davis measures in at a little over 5'11, 203 pounds. He ran a 4.49 40 at the Combine and benched 225 pounds 25 times. He loves to hit - which is something that I'm sure the Dolphins like in Davis.
Below is Vontae's scouting report from Draft Countdown:
Strengths: Prototypical height and bulk...Smooth and fluid with top-notch athleticism...Excellent speed...Flips his hips well and can turn and run...Has a burst to close and can recover when beat...Very strong with a muscular physique...Tough and physical...Gets a good jam at the line...A reliable tackler who can deliver the big hit...Does a fantastic job in run support...Decent hands and ball skills...Capable of excelling in either man or zone coverage...May offer some positional versatility...Solid return man and special teamer...Durable...Has lots of experience against top competition...Nice bloodlines..Major upside.
Weaknesses: Has clashed with coaches and does not take instruction well...Poor work ethic...Inconsistent...Motor runs hot and cold...Questionable instincts and awareness...Gambles and takes too many unnecessary risks...Gets too high in his backpedal...Doesn't make as many plays as he should...Struggles with the mental aspects of the game...Skates by on his natural talent...Full of himself and reads his own press clippings.
Discuss the pick below.

Agreed
I was ecstatic after Rey fell to us, I was near certain we’d go with him.
Can’t say I’m upset with Davis though.
We're all goin' down to the creek tonight; it's gonna be a gas! You're comin', right?

Well, let's remember he IS a corner and that was a big need...
so let’s give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being.
I prefer Darius Butler to Vontae Davis
oh well
Joining the "Draft Sean Smith in the First Round" Bandwagon even though he could lift 225 lbs only 10 times
Well............
Dont think there will be any trading up and I dont think there will be any receivers for us to take. Meaning none that would be worthy of a second round pick.
any DB is a good DB at this point.

I feel real good about our run defense
I feel a little shaky about our pass defense with 1 corner and three strong safety type guys.

why, why god why....
REY….REY…im upset right now
im happy....
rey was there but this position was our biggest hole and im confident they did their homework on him
CB was our biggest need
Plus Vonta is no shrimp, hes over 200lbs and if anyone catches the ball from him they wont get any YAC from him.
Do you guys think that we may pick up Mohamed Massaquoi in the 4th round if there is no one else available?
I like what I read about this kid.....
Tough, Fast, supports the run, can blitz, good on special teams. I’m not worried about his attitude yet……just like his knuckle head brother,,,,,give him tough good coaching he respects and his attitude will change…….I love the pick at 25
Ugh
This front office must be confident that they can change his attitude. I hope they’re successful.

Maybe thats why they didnt take a wr in round 1..
in the 44th pick the phins have announced they have traded the pick to the cards.. tba in a few ??? We can only hope.
Everette Brown is pissed, Connor Barwin is happy...
I think we should go for Brown.

Is one hell of a player. I’m shocked he has fallen this far. I would have been ecstatic if he fell to the Phins in the 1st round a few months ago, and now somehow he’s still around at pick 40. I don’t know what the scouts and coaches could have seen for him to fall like this.
