Around SBN: Odds On Peyton Manning's Next Home Includes Three Teams

Slow Friday

So, this is my first post and since there doesn’t seem to be anything of substance going on in the world of football, on top of the fact that my job is the equivalent of hanging out at a south Florida D.M.V. just for fun, I figured why not.

I was arguing with my buddy, who happens to be one of the 45 Buffalo Bills fans in the world, about our respective teams and who has been worse over the last few years. The main point of my argument being that the Bills are at the last year of a “decade of suck” in witch they have failed to make the playoffs. He’s response being that because of the “lucky” season we had last year that I have forgotten just how bad we were. Not just the 1-15 season either.

That made me think we have had only three losing seasons in the past nine, 4-12 in 2004, 6-10 in 2006, and of coarse 1-15 in 2007. Every other season was 9-7 or better. All and all not to bad.

He’s point though was,” how bad were the losing teams?” That question brought me back to a time where my friends would have the theme from the Benny Hill Show paused on the speaker system, just for the off chance that the Dolphin offence, by the grace of god, got into the redzone. Everyone here knows that when those teams would be in range to score, not only did they find a way NOT to score, but it would be embarrassing for any Phinfan and absolutely hysterical for anyone else. Jay Fiedler comes to mind….just in general.

If there is one play that sticks out in my mind as being the worst during those nine seasons, its has to be John Beck throwing an interception BEHIND HIM against Buffalo in 2007. All I could here was the laughter, not only coming from my friends but also the neighbors in the condo next to me. I got up, went to the fridge, grabbed the 12 pack of Guinness, and locked myself in my room till I had to go to work the next morning. I’m sure all of you have your own story about an awful moment in Dolphin history; there are a couple to choose from.

As I really think about, who the hell cares about the past, (even though our past is way better the Bills) the most important thing is that the Dolphins have a bright future. The days of cringing when a ball is thrown deep, will be replaced by excitement to see the ball go down field. Although I’ll still get a little queasy when were inside the twenty.

Couple things
45 Buffalo Bills fans in the world

check SBNation – we’re always in the top 10 for traffic. Lots and Lots of Bills fans – especially in Florida.

even though our past is way better the Bills

we had probably 10-15 good years since our inception – how many have you had? (i’m beign honest..i don’t know..just want an honest answer there.

and as far as who’s teams have been worse the last 10 years – how in the hell can you not say it was Buffalo? Trade Pat Williams – JP Losman – Willis McGahee – JP Losman – who’s our tight end? – JP Losman – Fire Wade Phillips – get rid of Bill Polian?

how is it possible that you suck worse than we do over hte last 10 years?

The rest of you go get the goods on Stan. His mom grounded him once for setting something on fire. Let's find out what that something was and then lie and say it was a puppy.

Plus – Let me trade Winfield and get an old Drew Bledsoe. Duke Preston at Center?? Donte Whitner at #8?? JP Losman! – Get rid of A.J. Smith!! Tom Donahoe?? Roscoe Parrish our first selection???

you want to talk about screwing the pooch or going ass backwards when creating a team – just watch our team. hopefully these morons can get their s*** back together. But now we have some sort of “inner circle” that does all of the talent evaluations – great. can’t get one guy to do the job now we got 3 trying to figure it out.

i’ve been waiting for a good team since ’99 – 10 years later our team is still a joke.

but I agree that your in for a far tougher year than last year – we played the same teams – but all of those teams are what I consider “sisters of the poor”.

who cares that you beat us, sf, oak, den, sea, kc – not exactly the who’s who of the league. its all about the playoff teams – how you did against them.

thats how I know the Bills suck – we haven’t beaten a top team in longer than i remember.

Don't forget

JP Losman lol .The 45 Bills fan thing was sort of a inside slap. I’m just always on his case because he gets so happy whenever he meets another Bills fan.

well if your a Buffalo anything fan (save Bandits) then you better be able to handle crushing and devestating loss after loss. we basically have made a living blowing games or losing in ways in which are unimaginable.

its really kind of funny – i’ve been watching for almost 20 years of Bills/Sabres – so I’m pretty much immune to it by now. I’m also (incase you couldn’t tell) very objective of my team and other teams.

most fans will blow their team regardless – i call them how i see them. far more dillusional people out there than what there should be…thats for sure

Well...

Like i said the past three years in my fantasy league, there is always next season…provided you guys don’t end up in Toronto. What do you do at that point? I would be pissed if that was even a rumor in Maimi.

by fhitshaced on Apr 10, 2009 4:50 PM EDT reply actions

not going to happen – there’s sooooooo many things going against that. including our current CBA which is based off of US law.

if we get sold it’ll be to LA or to Vegas or something. Toronto’s is a very far reach IMO. We’re actually good – our revenue stream is good – the only reason any talks of this kind of any sort is happening is because of Ralphs age. The Bills in regards to money or revenue are very strong – no problems there at all actually. couldn’t be stronger.

the main reason for Toronto is to expand that coverage – think of it this way – if you were to lose Tampa or Jax as ateam then they paid Miami 10 million a game to play one game in their stadiums a year – do you think they’d do it?

we’re definately not the only ones to do it – and i’m sure we wont’ be the last. its helping our bottom line

yeah no kidding right.

Seriously though – I doubt we’ll get moved. There’s a lot in our favor that most people don’t know.

NYS has set aside money in its budgeting for “Retaining a professional football franchise in WNY”

I heard Golisano has already stated that he would be interested in discussions with the Bills – but he has said no one has contacted him in that regard. Which I don’t knwo if its true or not because the NFL does not allow an owner of one of their teams to own another professional franchise – so he would have to sell the sabres in order to do that.

There is a “faction” of old bills players that have already stated they will do whatever they can to keep the team there.

We sell out all of our games, our revenue is strong, the regionalization program their doing with Rochester/Toronto is aparantely paying off big time – especially the rochester market.

All in all – what it really comes down to is who buys it after Ralph – they could be profitable and keep the team there – i have little doubt about that.

the one piece that infuriates me is Ralph – he should at minimum be willing to sell off a percentage to who ever provided they keep the Bills in WNY. I don’t understand why he hasn’t done something to this effect yet. Similiar to whta the Dolphins just went through.

i'll buy 'em!

but you would lose your cold weather advantage, cuz the first thing I’ll do is build a friggin dome! There is no way I am watching my team play in the snow!

Hmmmm did buffalo ever win a superbowl or for that matter go the whole year undefeated in doing so

did the Bills ever have a head coach for 26 years and only in 2 of those years have a losing record not to mention I think we have 6-7 losing seasons total in how many years, how many losing seasons does the Bills have in their history,do the Bills have the most overall wins in NFL history,oh yeah no to mention we have the better head to head record when playing against the Bills tell your friend to shut it.

wow – this and the other post i was in – you guys are like 10 year old children down there.

can’t you make a point without being mean? it actually makes your point more valid and people will actually listen to you. when you say stuff like tell your friend to shut it – you lose all credibility

Okay, worst Fins memories?

the game that finally finished Marino. And yes, he was finished long before he quit playing, because IMO, he was never the same after the Achilles tear. But the last game he played, the ’99 playoff game against the Jags, that was the saddest thing I have EVER seen in football, short of a serious injury on the field. The score remains burned in my brain: 62-7.

While the 1-15 season under camMoron was a long, drawn out, kind of pain, at NO time during that season was I ever as completely demoralized and embarrassed for my team as I was that day. And I watched every, single, awful minute of the game; right to the bitter end. That game made Beck’s worst game in in 2007 look good.

It was a terribly sad and humiliating way for Marino, one of the greatest QBs that ever played, to end his career. And although I never cared much for Jimmy (“I’ve taught Mel Kiper everything he knows about hairstyle”) Johnson, it certainly was an anti-exclamation point to another, otherwise very notable, football career.
For anyone who does not remember what I am talking about, here is a recap:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/2000/playoffs/div_afc_gm1/news/2000/01/15/dolphins_jaguars_ap/

Makes me shudder just to think about it.

oh, and for the record, I always felt bad for Kelly, losing 4 consecutive SBs

and never winning one. He was an awesome QB.

Out of all our divisional foes, I hate the Bills the least.

I agree about hating the Bills the least of all our divisional foes

But that’s probably just because (and I’m not trying to be a dick – just giving my opinion) they haven’t really been relevant in a while.

along with the Raiders if we are including teams from outside the division.

i hate them too! Know why? The fans. Pats fans my be arrogant, but (generalizing here… I know it isn’t universally true – but it’s close) Raipers and Jest fans are ignorant, morally bankrupt, fools who are too stoopid to realize how stoopid they appear to everyone else.

as always.. jmo.

During the Bills runs to the superbowl

the most sickening times were when they played the Cowboys. The two most hated teams in the NFL for me. I used to wish for mid air collisions on the way to the game.

by ct1361 on Apr 10, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

wow

you got me beat on that one. I never wished for the team’s planes to crash… but i have had fantasies about the raider’s “black hole” collapsing and burying the fans.

The only 2 superbowls that I never bet on in my adult life

were the Bills vs. Cowboys games. I couldn’t bring myself to root for one over the other. I hated them both that much (and still do).

And it ain’t even close.

If it weren’t for those Jim Kelley teams, our Phins might have gone to more than one superbowl in the Marino years.
