Grove signs 5-year deal

The PBP is reporting that Jake signed a 5-year deal lastnight.  details where not given...  a deal this long could only mean he will surely be replacing Satele at the Center spot... don't you think?

The Dolphins hope to have answered their question at center tonight, agreeing to a five-year deal with Jake Grove, an NFL source confirmed.

Grove, 29, spent the past five seasons with the Oakland Raiders, starting 46 games for them since the team drafted him in the second round of the 2004 draft.

excellent

If this is true… I’m very pleased

$$

I’ll be very interested to learn what the $$ is in this deal. He has some injuries in his past… I believe.

When he was at Tech he played a lot bigger than 305..

I think he will do well as long as he doesn’t have any major injuries.

I loved Grove coming out of college...

He’s a bonafide Bad-Ass and in the mold of Smiley. Long, Smiley and Grove make me very happy. Reminds me of guys like, Chris Neaole, Jason Brown, Orlin Kreutz, Jeff Faine, Benji Olsen…. You can never have enough of these guys on your team.

Actually, he’s very similar to Jason Brown in ability.

Welcome little Jake.

this is not being reported anywhere else yet!

regardless he is injury prone and since Satele’s labrum is healed i doubt grove can even take his job.

Lets be real here

all people are built diffrent. LeBron James is basically the size of Lionel Dotson….but they look a hell of allot diffrent. This guy is reported to be at 315 now….thats big enough for me if he has the attitude. Plug him into this line and he wont have it do it all himself. Center is the QB’s assistant basically…and this guy is said to be really really smart.

Long-Smiley-Grove-Thomas-Carey

Satalle is good to have still….because he can play multiple spots now…and if u lose ur center u know you have a solid one right there on the sidelines.

I trust these guys arent just signing some dude….dont u think they hand picked someone they loved? Smiley worked out ok didnt he? I love that guy…..Donald Thomas was a steal…who saw it in him?

If grove weighed in at 315, that freakin' awesome...

I don’t know what to say about his perfomance in Oakland. Could it be coaching, wrong scheme for him, Fargus got hurt a bunch then McFadden got hurt to, so who knows. He’s a dolphin now, and Sparano doesn’t accept long term injuries. So he’s gonna have to play and if he’s got a mean streak, get him on the field.

Solid points R24

Now bear with me for a sec as i borrow a line from you… Lets be real here; size? As they say in N.Y. ; that and a token will get you a ride on the subway! How about Zach and JT neither guy had prototypical size and they were the best players on this team for a decade! As far as the FO i love em, and believe they are one of the best FOs in sports! However no ones perfect, C.Crocker didn’t exactly pan out and what about S. Murphy, i’m not saying he’s a bust but guys picked after him have contributed much more, even at his position! So the proof is in the puddin, and if he makes the team better great.

These guys know O-Linemen

Murphy was what a 4th rd pick? you cant expect them to hit on EVERY pick…but they almost did anyway.

Im just sayin….i trust these guys, and they dont give up the future which is even better

I LOVE IT

It also gives Parcells and Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland the type of offensive line they helped construct in Dallas, where running backs had holes to run through and Tony Romo had time to throw.

In one year, Miami has built one of football’s top young lines. It was not particularly cheap, but it will be highly effective.

I just honestly don't see why they wouldn't spend 8 million more dollars and get the better, younger, and less injury prone player in Jason Brown

SERIOUSLY!!

Brown is 5 years younger, 20-30 lbs. heavier, and knows about successful football.

Miguel Cabrera who???

by jsprt08 on Mar 3, 2009 12:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

The only way this makes sense is if they actually like Grove more than Brown.

by kcorona4 on Mar 3, 2009 12:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

But even if they like Grove this much

they why did they wait so long to make this deal, rather than go after him hard right when FA started?

do you really know what they did?

i personally think they know more than us…so i trust them

Obviously they know more than us

And I trust them. All of these comments are about having fun, expressing our own ideas and trying to understand what’s going on. Otherwise we might as well sit back, relax, let them do the work and not make any comments.

I'm not freaking out about the money, I just said I don't understand why they didn't spend the extra 8 million over 5 years

Grove doesn’t deserve this type of contract though IMO

I'm just wondering why they didn't get Brown instead

I’m sure there are good reasons, but I can think of any reasons that are good enough right now, unless Brown flat out didn’t want to play in Miami.

I wonder if FO knew they'd get into a bidding war with Seattle

and didn’t want such high profile attention. They signed him to 5 so it wasn’t desperate grab.
