Stats on Jake Grove
Good post at the Sun-Sentinel today. Here are some numbers on Jake Grove courtesy of ESPN's KC Joyner:
Grove's Point-of-attack winning percentage: 90.6%
Yards per rush behind Grove: 6.2
Went one-on-one with defender: 67.5% of the time - more than Matt Birk (39.9%) and Jason Brown (60.3%).
That gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling!

Those are nice
That 6.2 per rush is great. Couple that with 2 solid OG’s, and we may have found the missing link to our power running offense

And I think people are forgetting
The trifecta is very big on the weight room and conditioning. Last year we lost very few many games due to injury, and this is a direct result of their work in the weight room. One of the biggest knocks on Grove is his innability to stay healthy, so hopefully with a few months with the staff, he can be in his finest physical shape yet.
i am not surprised
i said from the beginning that i liked this kid, and that he was an upgrade over satele. he’s a good player.

Good post
I’ve trashed Jake Grove as much as anyone, but those numbers do look nice.
Of course, I will just say that those were put up in a zone blocking system which he only played in for one year and will not be playing in when he comes here.

that may be, but if he is one on one most of the time and had a 90+% winning percentage
i’m not sure the scheme matters all that much.

As much as I'd like to say
“I told you so”, I’m not going to. Because..
As amazing as these numbers seem, and as big an upgrade he now appears to be (when healthy), we still have to take extreme note of that last bit I placed in parentheses: dude has to stay healthy for us. That was the only knock I couldn’t find a way to fully argue when we brought him in while deliberating whether or not I believed this to be a good signing. Now having said that, it’s fairly well documented how strong our offseason training and conditioning program is. Freak accidents do occur to linemen, but we have a great line coach and a head coach with a history coaching lines. Coaching Grove on technique that allows him to minimize his injury risk should help alleviate some of those concerns. So, while it’s not safe to put the injury concerns to bed, it’s time to be more optimistic about the signing. I for one already was, and now I’m even more so after having read the “measurables” of his play. I’m glad to see some of you are coming around as well.
Man, can’t even imagine how good a healthy Grove would be with a healthy Smiley and a healthy, improved, more experienced Thomas by his sides..
Just a bit unfortunate that such an occurrence would likely inflate Parcells’ ego even further! Haha, I for one don’t want to see Bill justify letting Brown go because he thinks he can pluck a running back and make him fit the system successfully because of the line the trifecta have built. But that’s just me, and that’s all for another day.
well said
it’s all paper potential at this point. i must revert to the same argument i had for the nay-birds…. “We don’t know, we must wait and see”.

Nice post!
Somebody said about being in a zone blocking scheme even so they said how he was on his own 67.5% of the time so that proves he can beat one on one blocks for the most part and that he wins 90% of his battles he played against all of our AFC east NT which are huge and there the ones that gave satele so much problem if someone could fine out about how he did completly against afc east NT that would be awesome and also thank about how bad we got dominated by the ravens NT hopefully he will stay healthy and does for this team like sparano and CO. thanks he can do also does anyone know what CC contract is for i know its for 3 yrs but cant find out anything else!
doesnt
this conflict w/ the football outsiders info that you posted that the raiders were very poor rushing up the middle when he was in there?
no, because that measure the entire interior line.
grove may have played well individually, and as a group they stil sucked.

exactly
and I didn’t post it – another “naysayer did”
those OL stats on Football Outsiders aren’t a good way to measure individual linemen, but rather is a way to measure the unit as a whole.
great post
