My 6 Round Dolphins Mock Draft
I have simplified each round by position to make things easier. The picks are based on my opinion of need, available talent, and players the Dolphins have shown interest in. My order of preference for each pick is from left to right, the first name listed being my highest preference. [Edit: I designed the mock this way to simply things and add flexibility, trying to put a range of talent at each round (players that will most likely be gone to players that will most likely be available). Some guys are going to drop (not this many of course) but a few. And it would probably be better to take a guy that drops then to reach for one. I think it's better to see a range of possible options, since the draft is so unpredictable.] I'll admit this isn't the most thorough post, but I just want to see what you guys think. Here goes:
1. CB Darius Butler, Vontae Davis, Sean Smith
It's no secret that the Dolphins need a starting CB, so I believe CB needs to be addressed with either this pick or 2a. I feel that any of these guys can be the #2 CB this year, and potentially the #1 next year if Will Allen does not resign. But from what I've read, Butler is the safest pick and perhaps the best pure cover corner in the draft.
2a. WR Percy Harvin, Hakeem Nicks, Kenny Brit, Brian Robiskie
The Dolphins really need another starting receiver to take pressure of Teddy and open up the offense. One of these guys should be available. I doubt Harvin and Nicks will fall this far, but if they do I think they have to be heavily considered. It would be nice to have a taller receiver like Brit or Robiskie, but Harvin and Nicks are the type of playmaker that is just too good to pass up.
2b. OLB Connor Barwin, Larry English, Cody Brown, Paul Kruger
Joey Porter probably won't be around for too much longer, and this is the final year of Matt Roth's contract. I like the signing of Cameron Wake, but the Dolphins need to start grooming another stud OLB. At least one of these guys should be available ahd should fit the Dolphins defensive scheme.
3. NT Ron Brace, Chris Baker, Sammie Lee Hill, Terrance Taylor, Terrance Knighton
I think NT is a big priority, as I doubt Jason Ferguson will be resigned after this year. Obviously, Brace will most likely be gone, but these other guys have the size and strength the front office looks for in a NT.
4. OT/G Phil Loadholt, Herman Johnson, Louis Vasquez, Jason Watkins
Round 4 or so should be a good time to draft a backup OT, or a guard that can play tackle. These guys are all huge, which we know is one requirment to be an OL on the Dolphins nowadays. Loadholt and Johnson may be drafted in the second round. If either of them fall to the third round I'd draft them then, as a couple of those NT would probably be available for the fourth round pick. But the other guys, I'd wait until the fourth or fifth round to draft.
5. CB Mike Mickens, Domonique Johnson, Coye Francies, Don Carey
Mickens will likely be gone, but any of these guys would provide depth at CB, and could possibly compete for the nickleback position.
6. ILB Frantz Joseph, Jasper Brinkley
I don't see ILB as a big need this year, but I still think at least one will be drafted in the later rounds. Reggie Torbor didn't impress me much last year.
I'll stop at 6 rounds because honestly, I'd be better off picking a name out of a hat then trying to guess who will be drafted in round 7.
What do you guys think?

rounds 2 through 6 are all players that would be huge droppers in the draft
I am extremely doubtful any of those players are at the spot you suggest with that said your 25 pick players should be there atleast 2 of them BUT I am doubtful that will be Parcells choice
25th pick - Clay Mathews LB USC
44th pick - Alphonso Smith cb Wake Forest
56th pick - Clint Sintim LB Virginia

do you guys really think
Robiskie will be gone by 2a, all the NTs by round 3, Watkins and Vasquez by early 4th, and Carey by the 5th? If so then feel free to add some more names…maybe Lawrence Sidbury to 2b.

If all those receivers are gone by 2a
adding Crabtree, Maclin, and Heyward Bey to the mix, that would be 7 receivers taken in the frist 1 and a half rounds. I find that very unlikely. As well all those NTs being gone by our 3rd round pick.

I'm not sayin everyone K4
but you gotta admit, some of these guys are wishful thinking :>)

ok
2a Brian Robiskie possible
2b Cody Brown possible
3 end of round I’ll give you maybe 1 or even 2 are there but the guys we would draft at that spot won’t be. Some predict Brace goes 25, and almost all before pick 44 and you stick him at 86?
man if we got:
Butler, Harvin, Barwin, Brace, Loadholt, Mickins, and Joseph???? WOW!!! not going to happen and one or two tops of those go and probaly in different spots.
now if you are saying we gonna draft Butler, Robiskie, Brown, Carey, Watkins, Brinkley, and Knighten I am ehhh ok possible but I am not impressed shrugs

But thats the media consensus
You have in your mock Fili Moala going 86th, who’s to say a 4-3 team doesn’t value him in the high 2nd? Most of the mocks are opinions of guys who don’t have a clue about how the teams actually feel, so it’s tough to gauge a guys draft position just based on where he’s at in various mocks. I understand what you’re saying, but it’s definitely not out of the question that Brace could fall. Other than Raji and maybe Peria Jerry, there really isn’t another consensus first round NT, and anything can happen once guys fall outta round 1, because teams start drafting mostly for need instead of BPA..

sorry.
that meant to say “other than Raji and Jerry, there isn’t another consensus first round DT”

I agree could fall yes
I just think to say 86 isn’t going to happen unless something undisclosed about him comes out. And yes guy at any position can fall and many do.

read my post more carefully...
I said my first preferences will almost surely be gone by those picks, but 1) this allows flexibility in my mock draft as I said certain players could be picked a round earlier etc, and 2) there is depth at a lot of these positions in the draft so it is likely that some guys will drop.
by kcorona4 on Mar 27, 2009 8:28 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I designed it so that my top 1-2 preferences would be droppers
which is why I included multiple players for each round.
by kcorona4 on Mar 26, 2009 10:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
and it's also meant to be flexible
so, for example, Barwin could be taken in 2a and Robiskie in 2b

I like Mickens
and I like Frantz Joseph. Frantz is an FAU prospect, from Schnellenberger up there in Boca. I would be very happy with that pick. Overall, that’s a solid draft, except like others have said, some of those guys would have to seriously drop (most notably, Harvin and Brace) but it’s definitely not out of the realm of possibility, especially for the WR’s, because last year they ALL dropped into the second round. I would shit my pants if we get Harvin at 44. In joy, of course lol.

I am not bad-mouthing
your opinion simply don’t think the “top” line selections you have at these spots will be options that is all :)

Nice Work
It is certainly a less confusing way to think about the draft: like a menu, hmm, I’ll have a CB for an appetizer…
One possible haul would be:
Butler,
Robiskie,
Cody Brown (whom I’m not that excited about),
Sammie Lee Hill (Who I really like, too early?),
Watkins,
Carey (I don’t like Dominique Johnson),
Frantz Joseph
Not bad, could I do better?
How about:
1 Sean Smith,
2 Brian Robiskie (taller stronger faster Greg Camarillo)
2 Sherrod Martin 6-1 198 4.48 CB/S Troy
3Sammie Lee Hill
4 Lee Robinson 6-2 249 4.78 LB Alcorn State (can play inside or out: PLAYMAKER)
5 James Casey 6-3 246 4.71 WR/TE/FB/LS Rice if he wins Long Snapper position saves a roster spot
6 Dallas Reynolds 6-4 309 5.28 C/G/T BYU
7 Mike Rivera 6-2 245 4.63 ILB Kansas
7 Brice McCain 5-8 185 4.33 CB Utah (teammate of Sean Smith) future nickel-back

and ther is no way Britt makes it past the Giants

there will be no wideout chosen before the 4th round
BP just doesn’t put that much importance on WR early in the draft…. plus we are a team still being built, from the inside out and defense first….
personally I think we need more work on the interior line on both ends….
2 corners 2 lineman then LB’s and WR’s…..both positions are deep with mid-level talent….
if they spend a 3rd round on an LB….i would love to see Barwin or English
Just one man's opinion.
The defending AFC Champions Miami Dolphins chose Marino with the 27th pick in the NFL draft.....
Founding member of the 2nd round draft of NT Ron Brace, 6'3", 330, benchx225:32 bandwagon
Founding member of the 3rd round draft of OG Herman Johnson, 6'7", 350, 36.5" arms bandwagon

Larry English or Connor Barwin in round 3???
If either falls that far, I’d be absolutely stunned!
