Miami Herald: Dolphins potential plan for Chad Henne
This article claims that the Dolphins know they have to put together a plan on how to handle Chad Henne. Says a team source, "We need to get Chad Henne ready to play. We don't think Chad Pennington has to play 12 quarters in the preseason to get ready for the regular season. But we do need to give Henne a chance to get ready because his time is coming."
Interesting read and some food for thought.

HENNE THE FUTURE?
well i see it CP will play proably 3/4 of the 3rd game when the starters play most of the game other than that game he will proably play a up to 3 series a game and Henne will get all of the rest except some clean up duty for Beck IMO

The fact that no extension has been offered to CP-10
is a good indication of what we already suspected: come 2010, it will be Henne’s team.
The odds are that the dolphins will probably have a hard time duplicating their record from last year and repeating as division champs. Even though the team should be better than last year’s squad, we have a tougher schedule and a pats team that gets Brady back.
It all sets the stage for a transition to Henne. Whether Henne is the answer remains to be seen but the FO sure seems to feel that he is so lets’ hope they are right.

All this is about right.
Parcells/Ireland and Sparano staying the course instead of jumping the gun.
Everyone was like Pennington is so awesome and we just need 1 or 2 more key players and we are a real contender. Wrong. We are a rebuilding team, that had a magical year last year and don’t expect the same results this coming year.
I will not post on here for the rest of the year, if Pennington signs a 3-4 year extention for close near starter money, as some people think we should. I would love for Penninton to back up Henne and stay, but I think this team and its offense has some real limitation problems with him at the helm.

PS
Sparano confirmed my report in today’s Miami Herald that Chad Henne will be getting a lot of playing time in the coming preseason and, is in fact, the future of the franchise at QB. “We need to get him ready. He’ll play a lot and we’d like to see him a lot in the preseason,” Sparano said. You might ask why all the love for Henne an the eagerness to get him ready? Here’s the most telling quote that should make you drool at the possibilities of a Miami passing game with Henne at the helm: “You see the ball jump off his hand,” Sparano said.
Sparano mentioned John Beck as an afterthought almost. “It’ll be tough to get John work,” the coach said. Said he’s in a tough situation and that his first worry should be competing with Henne. I think Beck’s first worry should be getting traded.

Hey Matty, you over that “man-crush” you had with Beck yet?-)

The man-crush has...
as I see it, apparently died a rather quiet death last season among the many Beck supporters. :)
If for some reason we struggle, which is entirely conceivable given our very difficult schedule, then the Henne transition could and probably will begin sooner.
I always onboard with the CP-10 signing from day one and admire his play and leadership. However, he’s always had trouble – somewhat like Jake Grove – staying healthy and putting together good seasons.
It all has the making of Henne being the inevitable heir – perhaps sooner than later.
Finally, if the franchise really though they could win it all this season, then I think we’d have seen a different approach to free agency and player management. I think they are building to be a contender – as Nicky likes to say – for several years, with Henne behind center.

bullspit.
Beck is the future and Sparano is just trying to keep him a secret so he can trade CP.

I hope Pennington goes all Don Strock
I hope he realizes that changing teams again will only lead to maybe starting for one more year, and then being replaced AGAIN by another younger QB. I want him to be on our bench as a “break glass in case of emergency” player and to help coach up Henne. We have been in the position in the early 2000’s where the team was good enough to win 12-13 games, but Fiedler would always get hurt for 3-4 games and the backups were just horrible.

It would be shocking
to see CP-10 on this team next season – unless they reach the super bowl for example.
CP-10 may very well be like a coach on the field but he’s also a tremendous competitor. Which is how just about all NFL starting QB’s have to be – you don’t get to that level by being anything less.
Moreover, given that he had such a good year last season and if he puts together another quality year – then he’ll definitely be sough after.
You can bet that CP-10 would instantly make a team like Minnesota a serious contender.

I think he could very well stay as a backup
He obviously loves it here and has a good relationship with Parcells and the coaches.

Here's to hoping there's plenty of favorable blow-out games this coming year...
good for the heart/stress/nerves and mucho opportunities to see Henne develop in real game situations (though he’ll hopefully be handing the ball off to Ronnie/Ricky alot).
