So, the Miami Dolphins end up getting punched in the family jewels yet again, and the New England Patriots end up coming out of the owners meetings looking like kings so far.
Today, the owners voted and decided on which teams were to be awarded compensatory draft picks in the 2009 NFL Draft, and guess who was not among the 16 teams that were awarded, that's right, the Miami Dolphins. And on top of that, the Pats were given 3 picks, that's right 3!!!
The Pats gained a 3rd round (97th overall) a 5th rounder (170th overall) and a 6th rounder (207th) to go on top of their 4 picks in the first two rounds of the draft! This news comes only hours after the Dolphins traded away center Samson Satele to the Oakland Raiders for a 6th rounder, and the right to swap 4th rounders (which ends up having the Dolphins trading up 18 spots). It is obvious that the Pats are trying to stockpile all the draft picks that they can get their hands on in an attempt to get younger, and it looks like it is working.
The Dolphins are now going to have to try to gather up more draft picks just to match the Pats first day selections! The Dolphins will have their plates full with the Pats, but they can do it, and I'm confident that with the additions on draft day, that the Dolphins will pull through and repeat as AFC East Champions!
