I keep reading in other posts about the QB position. Is Henne the guy? Should they stay with Penne? Let's go after Cutler? And so on. Mau posted the 2nd round QB possibilities that shows IMO the need to pursue Cutler. That one position keeps teams bad to mediocre more than any other and Henne is far from a guarantee.
The QB position is the hardest position to fill. A high quality, pro bowl caliber QB almost guarantee’s their team a chance to make it to the playoffs and win a super bowl every year that they play. It doesn’t mean that you can’t make the playoffs or win the super bowl with a bad QB. It has been proven that you can. But those teams with a bad QB are never consistent. They win one year and have losing the records the next. The teams that can put out a Manning, Brady, Rivers, Big Ben, Favre, etc. are the ones that truly succeed year in and year out.
Another thing I see concerning this is how much is too much to give up for a franchise QB? IMO, there is no amount too high. You can name a dozen NFL franchises off the top of your head that you would consider poorly run or just plain bad. I will bet that each one of those franchises has gone without a franchise QB for the last decade.
The QB position is something that all us phins fans are very familiar with. We had the best one ever. And since he left, this franchise has not been the same. I appreciate the skill at which the new FO is putting back together this franchise, but it still needs to address the QB. Penne did some nice things last year, but he is not the answer.
Parcells was able to draft Bledsoe in NE and they made it to the super bowl. He couldn’t find that franchise player in NY, and they won one playoff game. He might have found it in DAL in Romo, but that team has yet to win a playoff game. If he doesn’t find a franchise QB in MIA, the will continue to muddle along in the league. Some years good, some bad. But definately not consistent. That is why if you have a chance to draft or trade for a franchise QB, you have to do it.
