Trade talk...anyone, anyone, Bueller?

I've been spending some time listening to archived radio interviews over at WQAM and Andy Cohen mentioned a few things on 2/11 that I would like to get someone else's feedback on.  He believes, like I do, that we need some playmakers this year as opposed to solid position players.  In particular, wide receiver first (which he mentioned attaning through FA or trade[see below]) and linebacker second, which I also agree with.  Many of you feel that we could use a playmaker at CB which I again agree with as well.  Anyway, I was over at PhinPhanatic today and Brian mentioned a certain receiver named Anquan Boldin as rumored to be an interest of our favorite football team.  I checked back on the comment I made on GP's "Grove Puzzle" post (which no one replied to, obviously, or I wouldn't be bringing it up and oh yeah, thanks for the support by the way) about the link to FinsHeaven that allowed us to read the entire post from PhinfanBo1.  In that post he says to look for a Samson Satele trade which interested me because as soon as we signed a starting C and another inside lineman I thought about the possibility of shopping Satele (I believe he is still a starting center in another system).

So with all that being said, would any of you trade Satele (or anyone else) and picks or just picks to get Boldin?  Then go after playmaker at LB or CB after that?  Humor me, please.

I would offer

Satele, and our 2nd round pick for him. I would start low by offering our second pick in that round, and maybe give up the first if it were a guarantee that we could do that deal.

They could slide Andy Alleman back in there like last year,

Or maybe draft a backup

i'd do it in a heart beat

only problem is he wants to get paid like he’s the best WR in the game.

I would not give up

a first rounder and a player. Player(Satele or Beck or Ginn) and a second maybe but not this year’s second

25th pick - Clay Mathews LB USC
44th pick - Alphonso Smith cb Wake Forest
56th pick - Clint Sintim LB Virginia
86th pick - Fili Moala DT USC

You can talk about "playmakers" all you want.

But the “solid position players” are what really win games for you.

Heck, if you want proof that you don’t need superstars to have a great team, just look back to the ’72 “No-Name” Defense.

Quite frankly, I don’t want us to overpay for anyone, I don’t care who they are.

I don't believe...

…that we can get a “solid WR1 position” in the draft….how else can we get it….

…believe me, I’m on the London bandwagon with everybody else…but really? really? you think we have a WR1 on our team? kinda important if you want to score points in the playoffs…….

Satele and a 3rd would not work

we would have to give up a 2nd round pick . think about how much dallas gave the lions for williams. Satele and 56th pk maybe you throw in a future 3rd to seal the deal. Its NEVER gonna happen though. After reading mattys post…. it just made me realize Boldin to the dolphins was just never met to be.

Who would-could sign Satele as a starter?

Maybe 5 teams….Houston, Oakland, Minnesota, Detroit, Saints, ….and maybe Arizona.

And If I were them I would wait till after the draft and see if I could land one of the top centers in the draft.

UNless there is a freak kitchen accident, I don’t see any teams jumping at the opportunity to get Satele. Any trade would be more about our draft picks.

As much as I'd love to say

a 2nd rounder + a player will get Boldin, I seriously doubt it.

You can thank one Jerry Jones for that too. Since Jones parted with a 1st, a 3rd, and a 6th round pick for Roy Williams, who has all of a single 1000+ yard receiving season on his resume despite being in the league for 6 years.

Boldin meanwhile, has four 1000+ yard receiving seasons and would likely have six had it not been for injuries.

No, I think to get Boldin you are looking at giving up our 1st round pick and then some.

One thing about Boldin is he isn’t a deep threat generally. He doesn’t blow by defenders on go routes downfield. So he isn’t necessarily going to force defenses to play their safeties 20 yards off the ball.

However you also don’t need a QB who can chuck the ball 60 yards downfield to get the ball to Boldin.

What he does do, as good or better than anyone else, is be a threat after the catch once he has the ball.

i would give...

a first round pick and a conditional next year plus satele for boldin…

he would be our WR1 and like you say he is a 1,000 yard receiver…

that would take the pressure off of ginn and allow him to be a threat downfield…

we still have 2 second rounders to get a LB and a CB

insurance...

they need a starter…right away…they will draft a center whether the get one prior to the draft or not…they need 2 centers though not just one…………

True I was thinking they get Samson then can use the pick on another need instead of center

but if it is for insurance then why dont we just keep him for insurance as well.
