John Clayton is reporting that Nnamdi Asomugha signed a 3 year, $45 million (and could reach $50 million) deal to remain a Raider. There goes another player from free agency.

According to PFT
(which gets this from Adam Schefter)
Under the language of the contract, Asomugha is slated to make $28.5 million during the first two years of the deal. That money is all guaranteed.
There’s an option in Year 3 of the deal where the Raiders would have to pay Asomugha either the average of the top five quarterback salaries or $16.875 million. Asomugha would be compensated with whichever is the higher figure.
There goes Oakland’s cap space. Shit that’s a monster deal.

yessir. That’s insane.
look at the last part of that deal. In the third year, he get’s $16.875mil, or the average of the Top 5 QB contracts, whichever is HIGHER. Al just broke the bank. Literally. It’s broken

but you know what
I’m not looking at this deal and thinking the Raiders overspent. What does that say of my opinion of Nnamdi?
And let me say this – I would have been all for the Dolphins signing Asomugha to a similar deal if he reached free agency. Am I crazy? lol
I agree, or would have agreed
but after reading this in the Sunsentinel, I doubt any “wishlist” type players will be signed via FA. Sounds like we are rebuilding through the draft.

lol
That’s a ridiculous amount of money though. And the first 2 years, $28.5mil worth, are GUARANTEED. They locked him up for the next three years with no questions asked, but that’s outta this world.
They may have overspent, but I also think they probably lose him if they don’t.

Wow I would have never thought they were going to
give him such a big contract. He is now the highest paid defensive player in history. Now what do you think will happen with A Haynseworth´s wish to be the highest paid defensive player?
looks like this will be another ridiculous offseason
of spending. And I would expect us to dodge all of that and once again find some second-tier guys and do most of our damage in the draft…
