Pass rushers Taylor, Porter sit out Dolphins practice

Dec. 9, 2009
CBSSports.com wire reports

DAVIE, Fla. -- Linebackers Jason Taylor and Joey Porter are sitting out practice with injuries as the Miami Dolphins begin preparations for their game at Jacksonville.

Taylor and Porter rode exercise bikes Wednesday when the Dolphins started drills ahead of Sunday's game.

Taylor hurt his right shoulder during Sunday's win over New England but returned to the game. Porter has been slowed by a right knee and hamstring injury most of the season and has frequently missed practice.

Reserve defensive back Nathan Jones was also on an exercise bike with an undisclosed injury.

Jones only

one that means much to me. I prefer atleast one of the old-goats to sit in favor of Anderson or Wake lets see if we need 1 or 2 OLBers copme draft time

Jags not practicing today…RB-MJD (knee), G-Forney, DT-Henderson; limited today…CB-Mathis, WR-MSW, DE-Williams

seriously!

i think their corners are exploitable, as long out OLine can stand up to the pass rush. After that, it is just a matter of who can score the most, right? =)

I would pick

MJD….even though he is my stud RB in most all of my fantasy leagues. I think the odds that we beat them with MJD out is higher than any of the other players.

but that’s probably not likely

Against Rookie Jaguar OTs,

might this be a good time to find out what we have in Erik Walden and Quentin Moses? Risky.
But what if Moses/Walden and Anderson/Wake were able to get substantial pressure on Garrard without giving up 200 yards to MJD? That would tell us alot going forward. Save Taylor and Porter for Tennessee and get them healed up for the stretch run. IF we make the playoffs, it would be advantageous to have Taylor and Porter healthy and rested since they would be the only OLBs with playoff experience.

i like Moses.

i have been on his bandwagon for a couple of years now. When they subbed him in the year JT was injured in 2007, he really impressed me. I mean, he took down Rothlisberger on Monday Night for goodness sake! I am not really sure why he has not gotten more playing time – he has really good size and speed.

but wouldn't you really like to know what the knock on him is

that keeps him down the depth chart? Some guys are just one dimensional and shine when you stick them in as a change up, but can’t hack a full time role. I would love to know if that’s the case with him. From what I have seen, he has talent.

he's been better against the run that rushing the passer hasn't he?

maybe he needs to come out on 3rd in favor of Wake, who still needs to work on his run D.

I think Strongside LB is a sneaky need going into next season. Roth was released, and Taylor doesn’t look to have a whole lot left, so who else can play that side? Anderson maybe, but do we think he’s the future every down player at that position? Everyone talks about ILB, NT, and WR, but strongside OLB is also high on that list.

You can never have too much depth at LB

Especially when you run a 3-4 defense. I love having depth and the ability to rotate in and out to continue to apply pressure.

Controversy, I still don't see how there is controversy

Rushing the QB by the numbers…not including the game against the Pats as I have done the play by play analysis yet….through 11 games this year.

Porter………485 snaps, 7 sacks, 4 qb hits, 10 qb pressures
Starks……..488 snaps, 6 sacks, 6 qb hits, 10 qb pressures
Taylor………592 snaps, 7 sacks, 4 qb hits, 13 qb pressures
Wake……….109 snaps, 6 sacks, 4 qb hits, 15 qb pressures (ummm hello, where is the ?)

Oh by the way, Wakes numbers are the best as far as a ratio goes for all defensive player in the NFL with more than 30 snaps played this year….IN ALL THREE CATAGORIES

by Vanman_FishFan13 on Dec 10, 2009 11:11 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

These are my numbers and grades

Not what you see on ESPN.com or NFL.com. with watching every player on every play. There were two game where he didn’t get credit for .5 sacks that he should have had credit. One should have been split with Phillip Merling, another with Tony McDaniel and the third I can’t remember off of the top of my head. There are differing views on tackles and sacks depending on who watches and who is grading. Those numbers were through 12 games. With the Patriots game included, which I graded Wake with 2 more QB hits, 0 sacks, and 0 QB pressures in 9 snaps.

by Vanman_FishFan13 on Dec 11, 2009 9:33 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That's why I do my own grading

Sometimes I think the stats guys are biased. And don’t even get me started on the “tackle” stat. Those are done by team guys anyways.

by Vanman_FishFan13 on Dec 11, 2009 12:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

So basically you're making your own biased grading.

How is that any different? How do we know you don’t have a bias towards a favorite player?

I would nt mind

wake and anderson so much if we still had fergie in the middle but still they are beasts, hopefully they’ll keep the pressure on the q b and hope our line can contain the run . we neeeeeed this win badly. go phinsss here kitty kitty lol

by finslifer on Dec 9, 2009 6:35 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

This could be Wake's chance to prove he is a difference maker,

IMO there’s no way you could contain him for a whole game if he got starters reps, he has put A LOT of pressure on QBs without many reps, it makes you wonder, I think he is OUR best passrusher, but is he a GREAT passrusher, IDK, I’d love to see him get that chance.

PS. There was at least 1 play when they ran when Wake was in, it was an off left tackle run, Wake was on the other side and he stood the TE up in the backfield, shed him and almost caught the play from behind, it was around a 7yd run.

He did an excellent job in pursuit on that play, I know it’s 1 play bit he DID NOT look “out of place”, he looked very fluid and instinctive.

I think we'll force Mathis, henderson, and MJD to play

however it would be interesting to see who would play for any of the phin’s injured starters.

i really need to lose and be done, because i am leaving for a cruise and will not be around to adjust my lineup for the next two games. I was actually thinking about asking you to do it for me…. that is, if I beat you this weekend, of course.

With Nate Jones dinged up and Sean Smith struggling with the rookie wall...

would it be time late in the season to bring in Sam Madison and/or Patrick Surtain?
They may not have anything left, but we sure could use a pair of legendary veteran influences on our young secondary, and being spelled for a few plays here and there. There are only a four games left and they are all important. We are paper thin in the secondary. New Orleans got some productive limited play out of out-of-work veterans McKenzie and McAllister. Why not bring in some veteran depth and veteran influence together with bonus sentimental morale value for the stretch run?
Who do we put on IR to make room?
I say Lionel Dotson (we have enough depth at D-Line)
and Jake Grove (we seem to be doing okay without him and he is taking too long to heal).

They do have someone for that role.

While he’s not very popular around these parts, Jason Allen is subbed in if any of those three need a rest. And he’s done a good job in the several games he’s been asked to do so. He may not be liked, but he’s still a better option than Madison/Surtain.
