Post-Game Celebration Thread: Dolphins rally to defeat Pats

And the Dolphins season is still alive. Chad Henne throws for 335 yards and two touchdowns as he leads the Dolphins back to a 22-21 victory over the Patriots.

The Dolphins dodged a lot of bullets but also made some big plays of their own en route to the win. Henne deserves a lot of credit. Davone Bess, Brian Hartline, Greg Camarillo, and even Ted Ginn were huge today. And Cameron Wake forces the rushed throw that results in the Channing Crowder game-sealing interception.

Wow. Just wow.

Be sure to click this link and head over to watch the live online post-game show that the Dolphins are debuting today - which will include live coach and player interviews.

Please keep all of the discussion about today's game in this post and not in a new fanpost. Thanks!

Be back with my usual game recap post tonight. Enjoy the rest of your football Sunday!

I love the irony of this game

It’s funny that we probably don’t win this game unless we lose to the Bills because it seems we used the Bill’s game plan that they used against us, against the patriots!

We kept ourselves in the game and kept it close, up until the end. The pats let us hang around and didn’t throw deep bombs all the time and we played hard and pulled out a great win!

Basically we need to win out... from there just gotta hope the right team loses.

If the Bills beat the Patriots we win any tie breaker with the pats based off having the better Division record

by metalhead86 on Dec 6, 2009 6:14 PM EST up reply actions

if we win out, based on the teams we are playing.....

I see no way we don’t get in

Jax is ahead of us at 7-5, we beat them we are tied with them. Then its Tennessee, Houston and Pittsburgh.

I think if we win out, and New England can blow one

we tie for the division lead, and I’m not sure about who wins the division, but I think 10-6 gets us a wildcard. Tennessee now has 7 losses I believe, so it may be us and Pittsburgh.. Unless of course the tiebreakers fall our way and we go back-to-back division champs

Pressure has been a consistent problem for the Pats all year

In the pre-season, I constantly wrote that we needed a big time pass rusher. Derrick Burgess was supposed to be that guy, but it’s working out that way.

When they did a review of Wake dropping Brady, I wasn’t thinking about Brady’s knee being down. What I was concerned about was the QB “being in the grasp” and that would nulify the interception. Anybody else?

"Baby Backs"

They continue to have some tough spots, but over all, I’m loving our young CBs, Davis and Smith, AKA the BABY BACKS!

I’m sure someone else has already said it, but that int by Davis was the play of the game, taking away that TD and keeping the Pats within reach for the Fins.

I’d like to see less mistakes and fewer huge plays being given up, but the Baby Backs are gonna be solid.

Fantastic Pass Protection by our O-Line today!

Wanted to give props to the Dolphin O-line today. Despite 52 attempts, only one sack! Henne had plenty of time back there to wait for things to open up downfield. That was huge considering we don’t have the greatest receivers in the league.

As much as I love this win........

henne was really inconsistent, and had a couple chances to really blow the Pats out of the water several times.

This was a big win, and many players from our last 2 drafts stepped up, but in the end you gotta look at what we can improve on for the upcoming week, and Henne’s accuracy is the most important thing right now IMO.

well, I'm not sure where

the majority of Visiting team’s fans would go however the best place to take your son would probably be to where all the games and giveaways are. Between Gate 1 and 4 (on opposite side of your seats), is all the pregame stuff. Once you go in the Stadium you’d also be where the Bud Zone is, a massive, and very loud place with pretty good food, usually you’ll see along on non-Jag fans congregate over in there. My advice would be to get into your seats 30 or so minutes before the game and meet any Phin fans near you.

If anything he needs to work on his touch passes a little more arc on the ball , but overall great game . Just glad they let him play and win(no wildcat) and limited pat white to one play. It just seems to take them out of sync, and once henne gets hot leave him in.

I see “Henne to Hartline” being a common theme for (hopefully) years to come.

I also think our CB’s are going to come up huge in the future.

And i hope that sparano stresses to these guys that THIS is how you finish a game. You HAVE to play 60 minutes of football in this league and its something that we seem to have forgotten.

Eh, I think it evens out

But everyone thought we would beat Buffalo and lose to the Pats.

And anyone can say want they want. They brought up all the WC plays and Ronnie/Ricky’s great game against the Jets to downplay Henne’s role in bring us back that game.

HENNE WON THIS GAME. You can’t put it on anyone else. NO WC plays at all. No RB over 85 yards running. 330+ yards passing to WRs like Hartline, Bess (who played out of his mind today) and Ginn. Just dart after dart. Pow, Pow Pow. Yea he had the INT, but didn’t phase him at all. Gunning it everywhere.

If you think about it, amazing. We just beat the Pats without our starting NT and RB. And now the Pats can’t even complain about the Wildcat.

You d@mn right!

"If he wants to, we can throw all day," Henne said. "I love it. Put it in my hands in pressure situations."

Can you imagine Henne with a yr XP under his belt and say a “Aquain Boldin” or a “Andre Johnson” type WR to throw to? With a power running attack? We are loaded w/ 2-3 WRs. Bess IS Welker. Cam and Hartline, well what can ya say?

Give me a #1 WR, a NT, #1 consistant TE and safety help in the draft and I’m a happy man.

If our defense can just learn to grow up a little and stop giving up 50+ yard plays, they are pretty solid. Just for some reason they want to take series off. I gotta give em their ups today. They held the BB, Brady, Moss, Welker PATS to 21 points and stopped them from scoring at all TWICE inside out 10. AND thats 0 points int the 4th qtr. (Yea I put them down when they do bad, I’m gonna give em props when they do well.)

Vonte, dude I’m getting your jersey. Yea you gave up some plays, but hell its your rookie year. You played 2 games against the Pats and got 2 INTS from Brady while going to Moss.

Welker had 10 receptions for 167 yards, but Moss was held to two catches.

“They’re focusing a lot on him,” Brady said. “You’ve got to get the ball to other guys when they do that.” -via ESPN

Let me translate this for you. “Yea we got one by him , I gotta keep Randy happy, but I’m going to that well too often because Vonte, or umm Mr. Davis seems to F*ck my world up if you haven’t noticed.”

Unlike ’07. We have a CB that can/will take a #1 WR completely out the game.

Vonte THANK YOU for giving us the chance to come back. THANK YOU!

Henne

You can say what you want about Henne’s consistency today. Whether it was good or bad, the kid had a career notable day against one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL, having a shootout with a (while overrated) very solid QB and won it. He’s a rookie (2nd year or not, this is his first year in the starting position), and rookies learn. When he begins to learn more, he will grow and flourish into a solid QB. Give us a wide out and he will be a demon.

Great game today. Maybe Davis/Smith will be the next coming of Madison/Surtain? (Long shot, I know, but still, I’m looking forward to see what occurs!)

Go Phins! Lets keep this momentum going again!

Good job by our DBs of locking down Randy Moss for 3Qs

and even though Starks didnt get a sack, he drilled Brady every chance he got

Future problem?

O.C.,after this great game reverts back to short dunks and runs the ball, even if it isn’t working. You know! a safe offense. Let’s see what happens.

A blueprint for defeating the Pats has been made with this victory.

Hopefully opposing teams look at the Miami and Saints wins and really give the pats a hard time by just Throwing the ball.

Jason Allen isnt a bad Dime Back

He did a good job covering Welker, I didnt see Wes catch a ball when JA was on him

The O-Line

Great game today. Question about the O-Line? What happened to Donald Thomas? I kept seeing Nate Garner in there? is he injured or was he benched?

I personally think Vontae is a bit better than smith

Vontae is my favorite dolphin now! Anyway do you think that smith trying to go for that interception on that 81 yd td pass was a rookie mistake? Should he have batted it down? Did he have the right idea did he just time his jump wrong etc? He is just a rookie but these two corners are going to be amazing.

by Gamer2102 on Dec 6, 2009 10:38 PM EST reply actions

I think he just got a little overpowered when Aikin went up over his back

he’s got to get tougher, and that will come with an offseason of pumping weights and another season of playing NFL ball. It was a rookie mistake to get so turned around on that play and fall down though, and I don’t see him making too many of those in the future.

I can't say if he should've

I think he had a chance to make it, just kinda flubbed his feet a little, at least from what I could see.

Davis over Smith

Is it me or is Davis clearly out-playing Smith this year? Smith got the start out of TC, but I really haven’t seen him make any plays since that crazy INT against New Orleans in the PRE-SEASON. Maybe he’s just good and teams aren’t throwing his way, but I really can’t remember Smith making a big play all year.

Davis is really gonna be a BEAST

in his prime maybe a top 7/8 CB in the league

agreed

He seems to make 2 highlight plays a game….one good and one bad. He did get beat on the Moss TD. I just love his tackling and overall aggressiveness.

by crossborderFISHingtrip on Dec 6, 2009 10:44 PM EST up reply actions

agreed

I think Vontae is more polished as a corner, and Smith is more of a raw athlete right now. He makes some technical mistakes that will be fixed, and I really think we’re looking at a top 5 CB duo soon.

Madison and Surtain

….on steroids!!! It’s a passing league now and we need good CB’s. This is going to be an amazing duo over the next 5-10 years!!

by crossborderFISHingtrip on Dec 6, 2009 10:45 PM EST up reply actions

yup

possible better than Surtain and Madison

that is a high bar to reach

but I agree that Smith/Davis’ ceiling is higher than that.

Forget about the pass

I think Cincinnati has the best young CB duo in Joseph and Hall. If we can get to that level we’d be awesome.

by crossborderFISHingtrip on Dec 6, 2009 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

yeah those two are solid

the Jets could be real good if they can get anyone decent next to Revis

yup

Is there a better corner in the league than Revis? I doubt it. Maybe Asumougha.
No need for the Phins to have a #1 WR when we play the Jets twice a year. He makes them all disapear.

by crossborderFISHingtrip on Dec 6, 2009 10:56 PM EST up reply actions

what about the other 14 games though?

lol Revis is a stud though, no doubt. He might be the best in the league.

Nnamdi gets the edge IMO

Last season his man was thrown to something like 30 times all year. If they only throw to you twice a game, you’re doing something right.

The scary thing, he runs man 90% of the time…and it’s the weak point in his game he says. He says he’s better in a zone!

by rroan28 on Dec 6, 2009 11:19 PM EST up reply actions

Part of the reason he isn't making plays...

…is that opposing team are not throwing to his side as much. I don’t have numbers in front of me, but I’d be willing to bet that it’s 2:1 to Davis’ side.

Did anyeone happen to see the spped that Bell had on runing down Welker on that long seam pass.

I believe he was the one who blew the coverage, but he also saved them from scoring a TD. PS when is Wilson getting the BOOT he’s supposed to be our last Defense and still continues to blow it on crucial plays. I know he’s had somewhat descent games as of late but, our young CB aren’t getting any help from him. We get a good free safet and were in the money next year. Of course WR#1.

Proud of the Phins!

Whether or not we make the playoffs…this game was huge for the dolphins. For the first time this year Miami beat a really good team after coming so close so many times. This has gotta help the young guys’ confidence for the future and especially Henne’s.
