Dolphins vs Patriots: Prediction Time

As we do this time every week, let's check out a few "expert" picks for this week's game. But keep in mind that all 12 of the "expert picks" last week were wrong. Everyone picked the Dolphins. Didn't work out too well, did it? What about this week?

Chris Mortensen - NE Adam Schefter - NE Ron Jaworski - NE
Tom Jackson - Mia Mike Ditka - NE Peter King - NE
PFT - NE Jason Cole - NE Charles Robinson - NE
Pete Prisco - NE Harmon Forecast - NE Clark Judge - NE

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised by how much "love" the Dolphins are getting. While only Tom Jackson was willing to pick the Dolphins, several of the "experts" above made sure to point out that they think it's going to be a close game and that they almost went the other way with their pick.

Peter King acknowledges that he "almost went the other way" because he thinks the Dolphins will pressure Tom Brady. But in the end, he took the Pats to win by three. ProFootballTalk calls this game a "dangerous game" for the Pats - but also take the Pats to win by three. And Pete Prisco, a famed Dolphin-hater, also takes the Pats to win by only three.

I, too, think that this game will be very close. I see it coming down to the fourth quarter - which has proven to be a problem for the Dolphins. If the Dolphins can put together a full 60 minutes, execute offensively, and not collapse in the fourth quarter, I give them a decent shot to win. But they have to pressure Brady and they have to create some big plays of their own on offense.

My Week 13 Locks
Saints -9.5 over Redskins
- New Orleans is on a roll and I just don't see a let-down happening against the Redskins. They may not score as easily because Washington has a good defense. But they'll win by double digits.
Bears -7.5 over Rams - I was one who wasn't buying into the Bears before the season. And they've proven to be a disappointment. But I don't think they let St. Louis hang around at home in Chicago.
Broncos -4.5 over Chiefs - Many of you know that I think Denver is the biggest "pretender" out there this season. And it's a risk to take them giving points to KC when they are playing in Arrowhead. But I think their defense will dominate KC's sputtering offense.

Last Week: 2-1
Season: 19-18-1

It's alright....

I don’t like being favored (like last week), the underdog always wins…

i dont know what the problem is but

What’s the deal wit the hate my miami football teams receive? Nationaly everybody hates the ‘Canes and ’Phins! Is it because of what the ’Canes did in the 80’s and what the ‘Phins did in the 70’s?

I know it's unrelated but..

I really hope that Ted Ginn twitter account is fake. Guy sounds like a moron.

I think the Dolphins come back strong and win by 10..

Denver is 1-17 in its entire history on the road @ KC in December...

I tend to think they are pretenders and that this game vs. KC will reiterate that view. Plus KC is coming off a huge win against Pittsburgh.

As for our game tomorrow...

though my heart says we can win, my head says otherwise. These pats are more Buster Douglas than Mike Tyson, but have not found a way to beat teams better than us this season and have blown several games like that. Last week’s disaster against buffalo only makes it worse. Plus let’s be fair, we do have a lot of injuries at key spots. From what I hear, Grove may or may not be ready to go, we already know Ferg is gone, and with two promising but young corners, Moss/Welker are bound to get some yards. Then there’s the coaching mishaps we’ve had of late with poor play calling and game plans.

I’d say a tight game for sure, but a L 20-24.

We will start out hot then collapse in the 4th

We allow the most points in the 4th quarter of any team in the NFL...

So safe to say that patssuck comment is probably going to be accurate.

And the Pats score the least 2nd half points!

Well, not the least, but they’re up (down?) there.

One of us will have to break the trend!

by Richard Hill on Dec 6, 2009 9:29 AM EST up reply actions

I think the only way we win is to get a lead in the fourth quarter and then run the clock out with the ball...

Ricky Williams runs to the 1 yard line and sits down type of thing.
In the fourth quarter late with the ball, if we have the ball in our territory and it is fourth down, we are going for it.
Keep the ball away from Brady and Moss and Welker.
Our Offense against their defense WITH CONTROL OF THE CLOCK (by converting third downs and fourth downs) is a better matchup than their offense against our 4th quarter defense with them in control of the clock.

Abandoned the Draft Sean Smith at #25 Bandwagon to Join the Draft Sean Smith at #61 Bandwagon and get Vontae Davis and Chris Clemons. Trio > me.

According to the Pats blog site, we have the 29th Rank Rush Defense
News to me

Do our recievers exist? Ginn crawls out the hole, Bess is stumbling but hope is not lost.
Gibril i like you and imma let you finish the season but, Ed Reed is the best safety of all time, of all time!!

by dolfan0918 on Dec 5, 2009 7:36 PM EST reply actions

WRONG!!! (the pats site that is!)

in rush defense we are:

12th best in total rush yards allowed
11th best in yards/carry
12th in yards/game

So pretty consistent numbers for our D across the board.

We actually ARE 29th best in passing defense in terms of yards/attempt where we allow a whopping 7.9 yards per pass attempted. That’s sky high & a sign of giving up big plays in the passing game. That should be consistent with all our observations of the many big yardage, fast TD’s we’ve given up.

Wish I could be as excited that this game will be close, but not after last week’s debacle.

Is the worst thing that happened to us our winning record from last year?

I think we’re having a great year for a team into their second year of rebuilding with a pretty tough schedule. Of course everyone had their hopes on us getting to the playoffs but that’s all icing on the cake, at least it was for me.

I care less about winning today but I’m more concerned about how we do in the 4th quarter, limiting big plays on offense, and applying pressure on Brady. I’d like to see a great defensive game against a good team by the end of the year and it would be great to have it today against the Pats.
