Uncapped Year Not Good Thing For Dolphins in Free Agency

If, well when, the uncapped year officially becomes a reality, and all of the NFL teams will be free to spend their money as they please, some players will cash in on the chance, and some players will be royally screwed.

The uncapped year was normally thought upon by Dolphin fans as a good thing. Now we can go out and attract players away from their cheaper teams with our 5 celebrity owners and their big pockets!

Some of the names that were floating around this site and others were DeMeco Ryans, Brandon Marshall, Elvis Dumervil, Thomas Howard, Kirk Morrison, and Vincent Jackson.

All of those previously mentioned players will be restricted free agents when the time comes for free agency. They will be restricted free agents because of this uncapped year. The NFL has come up with a rule, or clause per say, that causes a player who has less than 6 years of playing experience to become urestricted, while during a capped, or normal year, a player is only restricted if he has played less than 4 years of service in the league.

Now this does mean that Ronnie Brown will be a restricted free agent, but this could be worse for the Dolphins now, because we cannot go out and sign any studs about to enter their prime in free agency. Looks like the Dolphins will be making their big acquisitions through the draft once again. I do not see any of the aforementioned players landing in a teal and orange jersey anymore, unless they have a major disagreement with their teams, which is not likely to happen either.
