Dolphins vs Texans: Prediction Time

I hope you all had a great holiday yesterday. Let's now take a look at who the "experts" are picking on Sunday:

Chris Mortensen - Mia
Adam Schefter - Hou
Ron Jaworski - Hou
Tom Jackson - Hou
Cris Carter - Mia
Peter King - Mia
Jason Cole - Hou
Michael Silver - Mia
PFT - Mia
Pete Prisco - Mia Harmon Forecast - Mia Clark Judge - Mia

Interesting note about Peter King's prediction. In it, he writes, "I've heard from a dozen or so Dolphins fans this week who are up in arms about Chad Henne's interceptions. (He has thrown eight in the last four weeks. Not good, obviously.) I've said the same thing to all of them: Henne's ready to play, and he's maturing by playing, and very, very few young quarterbacks don't go through this when they play for the first time. So just grit your teeth, accept it, and know you've got a good quarterback of the future."

I like the sound of that. By the way - we're all rooting for Peter King this weekend. King picked in favor of all the breaks the Dolphins need to make next week's game against Pittsburgh a game where a win gets Miami into the playoffs (he picked NE and Pitt to win this week).

I also found it interesting that notorious Dolphin-hater Pete Prisco picked the Dolphins in a big game. What's even more surprising is that he says to "look for Chad Henne to outplay Matt Schaub."

But you know - I can't help but agree with Pete on this one. I just think that we're going to learn a lot about the mental toughness of our young quarterback. After throwing the costly, game-killing interception in overtime, I fully expect Henne to bounce back and have a strong game. He'll be helped, in my opinion, by a re-committed running game early on in the game to loosen up Houston's defense.

And in the end, the Dolphins are going to win a tight one, 27-21.

Star-divide

My Week 16 Locks
Eagles - 6.5 over Broncos
- I continue to believe what I've said all along: the Broncos are pretenders. They aren't that good and will not win this game against one of the hottest teams in the league.
Patriots -7.5 over Jaguars - I continue to be totally unimpressed with Jacksonville as well and I expect New England's offense to get back on track in this one at home in Foxborough.
Cardinals -13.5 over Rams - I hate laying this many points. But the Cardinals need to get going again after consecutive weeks of uninspired play (loss to SF, near loss to Det).
Packers -13.5 over Seahawks - Seattle has packed it in and now head to cold Green Bay to face a Packers team that is still looking to lock up a playoff spot.

Last Week: 0-4
Season: 23-25-1

Thanks good post.

Don’t give too much props to King. That man failed to mention anything related to the Dolphins on his famous monday column after we had a hell of a game which I don’t exactly recall. I do know its true because I remember I was disappointed, but hell that happens every week with every media outlet.

By the way, you might wanna take the “Locks” out of your weekly predictions after that record you got going lol ")

I think it's going to be more highscoring than that i mean

1) our defense allows alot of big plays and with Schaub and Johnson there’s going to be plenty.
2) Our passing game has improved week to week i really think we can hang with Schaub and Johnson.
3) Texans have a tough run D so it could impact our Running Game while the texans don’t have one at all so most likely your going to see a whole bunch of balls thrown My Prediction:
34-28 Miami
I sense a big play from one of our rookies so watch out!!!

Chillin in the Henne ERA!!!!

why do i feel like the only person worried

About a Dolphins loss??? If I recall we were favored in just about all of our games against the Texans and lost all of ‘em…this team has a lot of individual talent (i.e Johnson, Williams,) that could take over the game if we let em. Until I see a dominating performance from the dolphins I won’t call for one. I see a 24-23 win for our ’phins. Schaub drives down field for a game wining FG but Starks gets a big sack to end it

I was really sad when he threw that pick to end the game last week but...

I was happy that we have a QB that can actually drive down the field for the game tying touchdown. I mean if that were mark sanchez (I like harping on that guy because screw him) he wouldnt even get us into field goal range. I thought he was amazing after that tampa comeback, but people said it was mostly ricky ( he did really help with that great run but henne made some great throws on that drive). Now we see that he can lead us in 4th quarter comebacks and i feel with Chad Henne we are never out of the game until the clock strikes 0:00 (or he throws that game losing pick)

That is such a risky situation

Id love nothing more than to win the division again… but if the Patriots win in week 17 and the Jags who play a team with nothing to gain in week 17 win… We’re out

if the pats loose to the jags

bellichick and his brady bunch will not loose in week 17 they just wont let it happen so i hope the pats win this week

Well they'd be playing in Houston... they'd be playing a lot harder than Houston will if we beat them

But still I don’t like the idea of relying on teams to win that don’t have a playoff chance. Its way to likely that in a close game the coach would call for the QB to throw the ball away for a draft pick =/

well houston is know

for late season collapses so i just dont see houston winning, but then again anything can happen, ala the cardinals in 04? when they beat minesotta on a late macown td

can someone explain to me this?

i thought it didnt matter if the broncos lost this week, i thought that the broncos needed to loose against KC for it to matter and that the eagles game didnt matter as much, and that baltimore needed to loose its final to games because in a three way tie breaker they edge us out. could someone please clarify this to me i’m obviously too confused after all these playoffs scenarios.

by miafins23 on Dec 26, 2009 4:21 PM EST reply actions

If Denver loses to the Eagles we can still tie break with them

It be off of strength of victory which they are currently winning. You measure it against only the teams you beat and of those team whichever add up to the stronger W/L/T obviously gets the nod.

by metalhead86 on Dec 26, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

so if they loose and jac looses and we win

does that make the week 17 game for us a win and ur inn?

by miafins23 on Dec 26, 2009 5:21 PM EST up reply actions

No, actually something im 100% positive on is that for us to beat Denver out

in the Wild card race, they have to loose either both of their games, or just one, but that one game has to be against Kansas City on week 17 not against the Eagles this sunday. Something to do with Conference record I believe.

by MauMontaV5 on Dec 26, 2009 6:05 PM EST up reply actions

What we need is..

Baltimore to loose to Pitt and Jac to loose to NE and we win against Houston. Then all we need to do is beat Pitt next week and we’re in the 6th seed. Thats the easiest way for us to get in. we’ll tie with Balt in record ,conf record and common games. it would come down to Strength of victory and miami would win that. Bottom line is we need to take care of our games!!! GO PHINS !!

schaub struggles, texans running game is non existent, andre johnson will get his 80+ yds, but everything clicks for the dolphins on offense and defense.

i have a feeling

Henne seems generally discouraged about the 4 ints. This game gets won through the air, henne hartline connection all day,if they can connect, bess can keep from fumbling, and camarillo can keep doing what he does best,we win, tight ends shouldnt really be a factor in this game, but id love to see our lbs constantly putting pressure on matt shaub, and if they can do that, our young corners wont have to work so hard blanketing the best reciever in the nfl. No time to throw=no chance of making plays
