Hit Me: Questions About The Houston Texans?
Howdy again, Phinsiders. I'm Tim from Battle Red Blog, and I'm here to answer any questions you might have about my beloved Texans in advance of our squads squaring off on Sunday. Some of you were kind enough to start a Q&A over at BRB, so I'm here to return the favor. Plus, I really enjoyed talking with all you good people last year.
So hit me, Dolphins fans. Wondering whether the Texans really have a shot at the playoffs? I'll light a votive candle and respond. Curious as to how Andre Johnson has not yet been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame? I'll speculate and then rant about how he should already be enshrined. Care to discuss the fate of one Gary Kubiak? I'm game.
Let it fly in the Comments below. Best of luck on Sunday, and here's to a clean game where no one gets hurt.

Has Shaub's busted shoulder impacted his play?

If anything, I think it has helped
Schaub isn’t holding onto the ball long. He’s really stuck to 3 second reads. If it’s not there he’ll check down as opposed to holding onto the ball or forcing something that leads to a pick. The quick decisions have also made the pass blocking look great (0 sacks since the injury I believe) while also improving Schaub’s toughness/leadership image to those who doubted him.

How has your tight end play been since Daniels got hurt?
Tight ends have caused us some trouble this season.
Also, what is up with the fumbling by your running backs? Every week it seems that I hear about one of your backs fumbling, is that a big concern for you guys?

Re: TE and RB
Our TE play has been almost nonexistent since Daniels went down. You shouldn’t have much to worry about there, though James Casey has shown flashes in the receiving game. In the absence of Daniels, Kevin Walter has been rediscovered and reincorporated into the offense.
Little known fact: Fumbling by Houston RBs is written into the collective bargaining agreement. If it doesn’t happen at least once per game, Goodell contracts our franchise.
Yes, it is a big concern. Unfortunately, it’s also pandemic and incurable. You’ll see us run the ball to set up play-action, but the rushing attack is a total afterthought in terms of being a viable part of the offense.

I agree with this.
Anderson has good hands and he’s not afraid to go over the middle of the field in 3rd down situations.

If the texans don't make the playoff this year, do you see a Kubiak firing and/or Andre Johnson trying to force a trade?
Also, has the texans secondary played this year?

Re: Playoffs, Kubes, 'Dre, And The Secondary
Barring the team quitting on him these last two weeks, I don’t see any way Kubes isn’t back next season. For all the hand-wringing that went on about ‘Dre forcing a trade after his uncle intimated as much in that ESPN article, I don’t see him going anywhere…yet. Next season, though, if HOU misses the playoffs again? I could revisit that stance.
I think your question about the secondary was supposed to have a “how” in front of “has.” Not sure about that though, because omitting the “how” is a fair question in its own right. Bernard Pollard’s been very good as a box safety, and Glover Quin has been better than expected. Eugene Wilson was okay before he was lost for the year; now, we’re starting Dominique Barber at FS purely because the alternatives were horrific. Jacques Reeves, to me, looks a step off compared to last year. Finally and most importantly, our franchise-tagged CB, Dunta Robinson? Let’s just say that we’re all thrilled he turned down $23 mil in guaranteed money during the offseason. Every Texans fan who’s not related to Dunta would gladly volunteer to help him pack for his move to a new NFL home in a few weeks.
Seriously…if I was coaching MIA, I’d tell Henne to throw at Dunta every snap. And I mean EVERY snap.

The Kubiak discussion is quite torn. Some say keep him, some say dump him, and some are waiting and seeing. Personally, I don’t believe he had a “playoffs or bust” ultimatum. I think the team has been in every game except one, and we’d be better off with him next season since there’s no clear cut improvement out there.
Andre has said he’d love to retire in Houston. I buy it from Andre. He’s not a diva, and I take him at his word. Hopefully, we begin winning so he actually will re-sign with us. He’s the best WR in the NFL and deserves a spotlight.
Texans secondary has, statistically, played well enough. However, many Texan fans say it is our weakest unit because of the lack of a shutdown corner. SS Bernard Pollard should be re-signed. He really is a difference maker, and his arrival has improved the defense. We lost FS Eugene Wilson to an injury and wish CB Dunta Robinson would get injured as well. Dunta is garbage, and the Dolphins would be best served to pick on him all game. Quin, Reeves, and McCain play well enough. BRBers have hope for Quin and McCain since they’re rookies.

Jacoby Jones
Whats the deal with him these days? He used to be such a big threat for you guys in the ruturn game and I heard he was in the doghouse a few weeks ago and now he is no existent, do you expect him to play a factor in this game?

Re: Jacoby
Your guess is as good as mine. We thought he’d turned a corner of sorts earlier this season; then, he went and missed the charter to Jacksonville a few weeks ago, and Kubes told him to stay home.
He’s still a weapon in the return game, but he hasn’t broken one in several weeks. I’ve been most impressed by his development as a WR; he’s made some HUGE grabs this season. In terms of Sunday, Jacoby will be back there on punt returns and will likely see action when we line up in four or five wide sets.

JJ....
is actually doing a fairly good job for us this season. he hasn’t muffed many punts, and as stated by Tim, he’s always a deep threat. none of us know the REAL reason why he didn’t make the trip to seattle, all that was reported was he missed a team meeting. but besides that, im fairly certain that he will show up sunday ready to play.

Is there much talk in Houston about how the Texans have never lost to the Dolphins? Plus all the wins are in last-second thrilling fashion. This comes up on Dolphins sites everywhere and people just can’t stand the Texans. I was wondering about the flip side and if the Texans fans have a sense of dominance over Miami and take it with a lot of pride?

Looking at Andre Johnson’s game log, there have been a few weeks where he’s been relatively quiet (even in some wins). What did those teams do (if anything) to slow him down. Double coverage? Jam at the line? Or was it just the law of averages and that he cant get 100+ yds and 2+ TDs every game?

RE: 'Dre
Typically, the only person who can take Andre Johnson out of a game is Kyle Shanahan. The games where he didn’t have big numbers were chiefly a result of (1) Shanahan forgetting he had the best WR in the league on his team and not calling his number as much as he should have; (2) games where we got up big early and committed to running the ball/clock in the second half; and/or (3) Darrelle Revis.

When the qb is throwing balls off of his ass because he’s getting hit with every throw.
Much respect to Revis, but the crazy pass rush the Jets put on had a lot to do with how many touches ’Dre got that day.

Despite him being the most targeted WR in the NFL
I don’t think he gets nearly enough touches/targets. The man is simply unmatched (Revis or Scrabble aside) and should be in our gameplan for at least 15-20 plays.

Well, to be honest.
Nobody new what the NYJ was doing at the beginning of the year, and they had so many blitzes and so much overwhelming pressure that Matt Schaub didn’t even have enough time, plus Darrelle Revis.
Umm, the San Francisco was just the fact that Andre Johnson was hurt on his first catch which I believe was a pretty damn long catch. See Andre bruised his lungs, so obviously he couldn’t really do anything.
I don’t remember him being shut out at any other point tho’

He came on in relief of Schaub a few weeks ago in Jacksonville, after Schaub separated his non-throwing shoulder. In his approximately quarter and a half of play, Grossman made us all realize exactly how screwed we are if something happens to Schaub.

Are you guys worried that...
Vontae Davis has the capabilities to out jump Andre Johnson for the INT and still have time to Tee Bag em at the same time? Do you guys have a running back? Who’s your QB? What part of Texas are you guys from? Do you like the uniform with the star on it or the little ram’s head with texmex flag. Who are you guys? I tried Google….

Probrably not, Johnson is the best WR in the league and Davis is still a rookie.
If you read above you’ll learn Slaton is injured and there running backs have a severe case of fublitis.
One word, Shaub. He is an acurrate and effective passer with nice atleticism. Matched up with Andre it should be pretty dismal for us.
Houston, right?
