Calvin Johnson

I know this franchise refuses to trade draft picks but the more I think about it Calvin Johnson would be the perfect player to bring to Miami. If hes already this good with the QB's in Detroit just imagine Henne throwing to him. I think this move takes Miami from fringe playoff contender to serious threat in the playoffs. This would also make Bess, Camarillo and Hartline even better and would give the phins a true number one for the first time in long time. Plus hes not a "diva receiver".  I dont know what it would cost to get him but if the opportunity presents itself to acquire Johnson, I say we pull the trigger. Thoughts?

I would jump at him if available but there is No Chance he is on the block … nice thought though

agree with markus

this will most likely not happen…and also, you make it seem like DET has bad QB’s, they don’t, Stafford has a strong arm, maybe stronger than Henne, and Culpepper is no slouch either, granted he has lost some since his Minny days, but he can still sling it…It’ll be a lateral move for him in terms of the quality of QB throwing him the ball IMO, it’s the other things that will be drastically different, and will surely upgrade our WR corps, but again i don’t think this will happen, nice thought though

I'd trade for him in a millisecond

but it would take our first round picks for the next 10 years, and Detroit might STILL say no. Calvin Johnson is one of the best 3 WR’s in the league, and he’s the franchise in Detroit, there’s zero chance they even take calls regarding Megatron.

5 #1s plus 6 conditional number #1s if he reaches milestones, which he would

start clemons over gibril
sign ronnie to a long term deal

not if we set them at some ridiculous number

like 200 catches, 2500 yards, 50 TD’s in a season lol

Yeah, and if he doesn't hit those marks,

the Lions only get our 2025 7th round pick, and forfeit the 5 1st round picks back to us, along with their 1st round picks for those years. I like where you are going with this.

Well im a pistons fan

and i saw an article on the detroit free press about how trading Johnson would be the right move for the lions because they arent going to be relevant for at least 3 more years. needless to say i agreed lol

by Khalifa34 on Dec 21, 2009 10:00 PM EST reply actions

hahahaha that's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard

I would agree only because it means Megatron would be available. But in 3 years, Calvin will be 27, right in the middle of his prime. If that’s when Detroit will be relevant, he’ll make them contenders. You don’t trade a 24 year old phenom, ever.

The real question is what Johnson if avaliable would you rather have

Chad or Andre

Calvin, then Andre, then Chad

Ocho is getting up there in age. I’d pass on him, personally.

Yeah I agree on Chad

But for some reason I would take Andre before Calvin, but I think Calvin would come cheaper

Andre would probably come cheaper

he’s older. And I would probably take Andre over Calvin too, even with the age difference.

honestly? probably not

I really think they are about as close as can be as far as dominance goes, and Calvin gets a teeny tiny edge for being a little younger, but for me, I been following Andre since he was tearing shit up at The U, so he’s definitely one of my favorite players.

He’s also faster lol

I hear ya but

Calvin is a little more than just a teeny tiny bit younger then Andre. Andre has to have him by at least 4-5 years. Calvin is a beast now, imagine how he will develop more over the next few years.

there has been talk of trading megatron for draft picks, but

if you are an NFL coach, there are certain guidelines to sanity, one of those is do NOT get rid of your best player

by finzrule on Dec 21, 2009 11:13 PM EST reply actions

the Detroit fans will burn everyone in the front office at the stake if they trade Johnson

With him, Stafford, and Pettigrew, they have 3 key pieces on offense. Add a LT and a RB, and they are suddenly scoring points in bunches. The Defense is gonna take more work, but I think you take a significant step backwards by trading Calvin, especially considering you can build around him, seeing as he’s only 24.

Paul Warfield Clone !!

Does anyone out there deny the fact that when we traded for Paul Warfield that that was the key to 2 Super Bowl (1972 – 1973) victories ??

Traded our #1 pick for him – and now we have all kinds of players to sweeten the pie: Ginn, Wilson & even Thigpen – go get a proven winner !!!

I think Calvin is abeast and would love to have him on this squad. he would open everything up and give Henne a nice big target to throw at. The thing is i dont want to see us give up draft picks. What about the kid at at Georgia Tech now? I have been hearing he is a beast and very similar to Calvin…..so…………whats up with him?

by esco6781 on Dec 22, 2009 4:47 AM EST reply actions

why would Detroit

trade Calvin Johnson?

I think what we should do is clone Jerry Rice and have him play, what do you think about that?

I thought about this while I was riding my Unicorn.
