Free Agents Anyone?
Last couple of weeks ive been curious and decided to take a little sneak peek into the draft and free agency, and ive come across a situation that might be of intrest to the dolphins. It involves the Denver Broncos
As we all know Brandon Marshall will be a free agent after this season and has so far has played at ato come n All-Pro level and has showed his value to a team. He has stayed clean off the field which was one of the big concerns and has earned himself big contract coming his way.
But with all this talk about Marshall getting a big contract it can hopefully slide two other Bronco Free agents under the radar and onto the market.
the first free agent to be is Elvis Dumervil. Beginning his career as a defensive end he has made the transiton to a 3-4 outside linbacker this year and leads the leauge in sacks. And knowing he can play in this defense would make him a person of interest this offseason. With Joey Porter(32) and jason Taylor(35) aging they are not the longterm solution at OLB. Hopefully Cam Wake will have been groomed to a complete player(shore up his run defense that the FO claims is the reason for his limited playing time) and add a bookend opposit him witch could possibly be dumervil(25) whos entering his prime.
The second free agent to be is Tony Scheffler(26) was one one of Jay Cutlers favorite weaponsand despite missing most of the year to injury in 07' he managed to get 49 receptions for 549 yards and 5 touchdownswhich was among the leauge leaders at tight end, and since Josh Mcdaniels has come in Schefflers role and production has declined, and looking at are current group of tight ends he would be an upgrade. Im not impressed with Haynos at all, Fasano has been in a slump( and hes a free agent), david Martin was released, and after his debut we havent seen much of kory Sperry.

Good call on Scheffler!!!
He would be a good sign… and given the down year, probably not that expensive…

i say we should
re-sign fasano since he’ll have a lower contract than scheffler and we put our best afford to sign B.Marshall, we need a play maker receiver and with marshall he will make our other receivers/tightends much much better… regarding dumerville i think he would be too expensive for us to sign him and i would like to see that money go toward some other areas, but he would be a nice piece for us.

also
zach miller from oakland will be a fa too and he is a nice vertical down the field tightend, im comfortable with either fasano/scheffler/miller in our team the only flaw on fasano is his deep game, but he is still solid he’s had a down year just like all our receiver did when cp10 went down but yet he has been picking it up lately ala like our receivers have.

Fasano is a good run blocker, and he’ll be cheap. We can re-sign him and pick up Scheffler. Owen Daniels is a FA, too, I believe.

That's what I was thinking
Two tight-end formation with Fasano blocking (and occasionally going out for the pass) and Scheffler as a big target.. tasty

hes most likely going to get re-signed
and plus he tore his acl and dont know how hes going to play after he heals
problem with looking at free agency already is that it can all change if there's no new CBA
If 2010 is “uncapped” then there will be far fewer free agents on the market.
y would there be more?
Wouldn’t more players want to go out and test the market like in baseball? Also, idk if this would have any effect at all, but with the Fins having all of their celebrity owners, wouldn’t the Dolphins be able to make some moves for some big names vets this year like Dumervil and Marshall?

Both solid TE's
Fasano is good enough for me though, after a rough start of the season, he’s rebounded real nice. He’s not a headline TE but hes a tough player

Keep Fasano, but we still need another tight end with the loss of Martin, Haynos needs a lot of improvement,
Dumervil is a stud, but will be very expensive.
Superbowl Starved
DUMERVIL= prolly top 5 salary in the nfl

For us to overcome not having a more legitimate threat at WR, we’ll have to have a top-5 D.

#1 Re-sign Fasano for his run blocking
- Obtain Scheffler cheaply or draft a receiving te in the 4th or 5th round
- Keep Sperry as our project TE and cut Haynos
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?
Why wouldn't you keep Haynos and cut Sperry?
Haynos is a lot bigger, and 6’8 270 is essentially an extra OT.

At the Pulpit we're looking at a similar pick-up in the off-season...
…here’s a list of who I thought we might want to grab. Maybe you guys might want some of these players too!
WR
Jason Avant (PHI) – Growing into a solid 3rd receiver, or could be a reliable #4 (UFA)
Steve Breaston (ARZ) – GREAT receiver and is a great #3 (RFA)
Michael Jenkins (ATL) – He’d be a great #3 (UFA)
Brandon Marshall (DEN) – Another dream, but his childish antics have been tamed by a Belichick offspring. (UFA)
Lance Moore (NOR) – It’ll be almost impossible for NOR to keep all of its weapons. He’d be a great #3 (UFA)
Danario Alexander (MIZZ) – Great threat down field, would be HUGE (college)
Golden Tate (ND) – Would be worth a first rounder (college)
Hire OC.
Nice list.
There’s a couple of those names that we’ve been throwing around on here. You guys should be able to make a serious play for a few of those with the money you’ll be saving when Wilfork shows off his new aqua and orange uniform. =P

the only difference with you guys and us
you’re looking for a good 3rd WR to play opposite Moss, allowing Welker to still work the slot. We need a guy like Moss who can line up and beat the best CB on the other team consistently. So the only guy on that list I think would be worth looking at for us is Marshall. Maybe we can trade you a number 3 (Ginn or Hartline, take your pick), for a number 1 (Moss). That would solve both our problems ;-) lol

resign fasano
of course the phins should resign fasano, he’s a quality tight end who is going to keep getting better, he’s just 25years old and coming into his own. fasanos game is in the middle of the field, and like i’ve said in previous posts this season the dolphins passing game has been to the outside so fasano has had to stay in and block to give penny and henne time to hit the receivers deep. fasano will develop into a guy that will give you about 50 to sixty catches a year and about 600 to maybe 700 yds per season.he’s also proven himself in the red zone over the last 2 seasons as someone you can rely on.
