i know exactly what the dolphins will do come draft day
With college football coming to an end seniors and elgible juniors are beginning to declare for the draft, mock drafts are rolling in, and ofcourse fans are observing neeeds and voicing their opinions on who their team should draft
im suprised no one has caught on to the front offices tendencies. They said from day one they were going to build this team through the draft, and so far they have done just that. So people know not to expect ridiculous trades or draft picks to be moving unless they are multiplying in our favor. Another thing made clear was from the start was that they were going to draft from the inside out. 2008 we drafted a left tackle(vernon was already a bookend at right) and two guards then 2 de's. in 2009 it was 2 corners. if you follow the pattern they not only draft a postion of need but they draft in twos so the next duo they will draft will be at linebacker garunteed. The trifecta inherited a team that they had to rebuils from scratch and we are still in a rebuilding process as far as drafting is concerned and they arefilling every single postion on this roster with their type of players and the overhaul is almost complete.

We are, though, on a 3-year plans, so WR will have to be addressed – either via the draft or via FA or trade.

I so hope the WR is NOT addressed in the draft.
I mean.. wouldnt you rather trade a 1st for Bowe or another really good proven receiver and know what you are getting then to use that pic in HOPES of getting an elite receiver in the draft?
I still say trade Ginn and a 2 for D. Bowe or B Marshall or someone close to this and be done with the WR search once and for all.
Henne is now our leader. Lets see what the guy can do !

They still don't have the WR they want,
but they’ll try again in the 2nd or 3rd round in next year’s draft, depending on who’s available.

Ginn and a 2nd won’t get you Marshall or Bowe. #1 WR’s are expensive.
I’d still love to grab Marshall, but I kind of feel the FO will shy away. So, realistically, I think it’ll be the draft.

Very good reminder on what the team is doing...
… and the drafting in pairs is a great note.
I would LOVE to see the team pick up a linebacker. It’s my favorite position in football. And like I said before, Miami has always had some elite ones. I would love to see one come on the scene again.
I know we have Peezy and Taylor (hybrid), but I miss the true elite inside backer. The Offerdal’s, Thomas’s, etc.

Lately all 3 of our ILBs have been playing well,
it’s a complicated system, the ILBs are asked to do a lot, especially when it comes to “reading and reacting”, which is a very complicated system that hinges on the LBs playcalling AFTER the snap, there’s multiple assignments that they react to as the play develops.
Earlier in the season we saw a lot of plays they “almost made”, and now they’re making a lot those plays, and I think it’s because they are making the reads a hair quicker, because they’re more comfortable with all the different responsibilities they have.
IMO, Crowder still has a chance to become an elite ILB, at this moment in the season he is playing at a high level, he is making a lot of plays around the line of scrimmage, and not making any mistakes, just sayin, don’t give up on him yet bro, lol
Why Sparano loves him in a nutshell, when he made the int. vs brady, the first of his career, in the biggest moment in the biggest game of the year, he calmly goes to the ground like he’s done it a hundred times before. He’s a player.
Plus Wake will be a beast, lol

Excellent points.
Just get him a good coverage safety as insurance and we will have a dominant defense again.

... you're right. I'm just reminiscing too much...
… I really don’t know how the team will go come draft days… maybe two safeties, or two recivers agains… I don’t know.
… and you’re correct in that the defense has gotten better. Like Soliai, Crowder, the corners, even the situationals in Wake, Torber, etc.
… and I also note that there has been a rash of injuries… so does the team really have that many glaring weaknesses? Maybe Gerbil Wilson, maybe another running back, and a return specialist… after that it’s just back-ups… like to Soliai.
Of course, we have the aging…. Peezy and Taylor… even Ricky. So those areas need some looking into…
We are experiencing exiting times!!!

Crowder is a solid even very good
complimentry ILB. We do need a guy that can play in space, get a few sacks rushing thr gut, cover a WR and make that huge play when you have to have it…a stud insider. A.O. isn’t any better then average at best and I expect ILB to be taken in first 3 rounds 1st round if McClain there or even Spikes otherwise 2nd/3rd round

Crowder doesn't have the football IQ to become elite.
You can’t blame the system cause it’s his second year in the same system and 4th playing in a 3-4. He just can’t read and react the way a Zach Thomas and Ray Lewis can. Elite ILBs don’t let safeties lead the team in tackles. Elite ILBs don’t get their first INTs in their 5th season. I do think he is the perfect complimentary ILB, such as he was with Zach Thomas in Saban’s 3-4/4-3 hybrid.
by luvs2drnk on Dec 19, 2009 7:39 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It's not a fair comparison,
Zach and Ray made their bread in 4-3 systems that took advantage of their physical ability to get to the ballcarrier.
They were not in read and react positions, they played in a very straightforward MLB systems, that funneled towards them and revolved around them, they had the same assignment almost every play, and are the 2 best MLBs in the NFL for the last decade or so, lol.
You just can’t have HOF candidates at every position all the time, every SB team ever had some starters that were not probowlers, these guys are playing very good right now, and if we change them it’s gonna take a while for the next guy to get it.
CCs football acumen is exactly why Sparano loves him, and AA and RT for that matter, there’s a reason they haven’t got any other candidates for ILB, its a tough job, its very complicated, you have to “find the right guys, not necessarily the best guys, but the right guys for our team”, sound familiar, lol.
Listen to Sparano talk about those guys, he loves those guys, I don’t think their actively looking to replace any of them, they certainly weren’t this year, and if they finish the season playing at this high level, just saying.

It is a fair comparison.
I’m not saying he should be playing at their level. CC is not a HOF player. But even non-HOF players don’t let safeties lead the team in tackles, average more than one INT every 5 years, and force more than 3 fumbles every 5 years. I’m just saying he doesn’t have the acumen to become elite. He has a terrible tendency to take himself out of plays, usually by reading the play wrong and hitting the wrong gaps.
As for the 4-3 argument. Ray Lewis has only played in a 3-4 since he’s been in the NFL, and Zach Thomas showed he can adapt and play it as he did in his last 2 or 3 years with the Dolphins. The ILB position is the ultimate read and react position on the defense. He is the QB of the defense. It’s his responsibility to make sure his guys are in the right positions, and to make the right adjustments based on what he reads from the offense.
I don’t read much into what a coach says to the media about a player. They’re always going to praise a player. Hell, even Ted Ginn has been praised by Sparano, does that mean he has job security? You forget that Sparano doesn’t call the shots on personnel. It’s not his opinion that matters on who stays, and who goes. But I don’t want to see CC go, I think he can be the perfect player in AAs spot. But I also wouldn’t be suprised to see him go if we find the perfect rookie in the draft.

I left my opinion of this on another site
I see us taking 3 LBs in the first 4 rounds (2 of them being ILB), I also see us taking at least 2 safties

Still to far away ...
I think it is still to far away to pick out who will be drafted or what position will be drafted quite yet. Uncle Finster pointed this out with the LB’s and I def couldn’t have told you that info so I’m going to make the large assumption that some of these things could be said about the WR and FS positions as well. They will stay true to there philosophy in drafting but it will take a full season and FA signings before we know which direction the draft will go.
by markus_13 on Dec 18, 2009 9:07 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
but you can still infer a lb will be drafted whether its inside or out
especially out because joey and jt are aging and we cant have anymore of these slow start as far as edge rushers go so expect them to get a olb opposite wake who hopefully will start if they dont resign jt

Yes but lol
yes and no … while I think that maybe the best option we don’t know what the trifecta is going to do in FA and what there thoughts are on the current squad. It is possible that they may just go NT, FS, TE, OL in the draft depending on who is available … I think we have been very lucky as of late with having the great talent available when we did draft, most people didn’t have Vontae dropping last year so it is hard to see it play out the same way

agreed.
Im still on the Cody bandwagon but soliai seems to be playing better latley and I think his play will be a big factor in that decision . And I know some of you are saying we need some eventual replacements for Taylor but we dradted 2 DE’s 2 years ago who are and will be good which leads me the conclusion that an ILB will be drafted because we have had success with our young guys learning from our once elite veterans which leads me to believe if we draft spikes or Mclain either would really benifit from not one but 2 pro bowl players and same goes for Cody as i have said before, also in regards to Clemons he will be good with some more time learning for Wilson and Bell thats just my 2 cents .
