Does blackout affect bars?

I live in Orlando and really dying to see this weekend's game. Will it be blacked out at local bars? Would the ticket still get the game? LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS! LETS GO PHINS!

I'm not sure about the NFL ticket thing.

you may want to plan a trip to Tampa to be sure.

It will be blacked out

in bars in orlando, even with the Sunday Ticket, you will need to go south, the cutoff for the jags territory on the east coast is Indian River County, so if you drove there to a bar, it would be on!

wait... they couldnt sell this one??

I can’t believe that Jax couldnt sell this game of all games out. Aren’t there fins fans in jacksonville?

by chrislykk on Dec 12, 2009 3:27 PM EST reply actions

YES BUT....

there needs to be Jax fans in Jax to fill the seats.

If a game is blacked out you can’t see it whether you have Sunday Ticket or not so even bars can’t get it. But for Jacksonville games you’re ok in Orlando. It won’t be blacked out there.
I’m in Jacksonville and I don’t know why people here don’t buy tickets. Of course I don’t but I wanna stay home to see the Fins. My father-in-law in contrast spends the gas money to drive to Daytona to watch the game rather that buy a ticket.
I’m sitting in the club for todays game.

Enjoy the club,

I get to go to the Club for preseason games and I always enjoy it.

I'm in orlando

Blacked out at the bar (tried burtons and hideaway). Since I work Sunday nights, I don’t have time to drive out of the JAX tv market. It pisses me off that the NFL thinks that Orlando is more a JAX town than a fins town. If they just did a little bit of research (go to a sports bar on sunday and look at what jerseys people are wearing) they’d quickly realize that its mostly fins, bucs, and bandwagon steelers and pats fans, and they’d also realize its only about 2% jags fans. Given that, I fail to see how blacking out the jags on the nfl sunday ticket would help sell more tickets. Also, as I’m watching the game on the internet now, the stadium looks f-ing FULL!

by chrislykk on Dec 13, 2009 3:13 PM EST reply actions

There's about 20,000 seats covered in tarps....

The NFL blackout policy states that a game will be blacked out if the game does not sell out within 72 hours of kickoffs(1:00 PM Thursday in this case). Teams that care about trying to stay on local TV will ask for an extension to within 48 hours.

The Jaguars are having a lot of walk-up sales at this point in the season, as fans realize that when the game is blacked out, there are still plenty of seats, and give it the old “what the hell, let’s go” thing. So while the stadium may look full(which it wasn’t even close, I saw a huge chunk of teal seats from 40 to 40), it’s because the tickets aren’t selling before Thursday.

I've been watching since

around 1967 when the Phins were the only team in the state this jax over Phins in orlando is Bs if they took a survey they would know this. but it’s all about the rules

by FinfanJC on Dec 13, 2009 6:55 PM EST reply actions

Unfortunately...

Orlando is considered to be Jacksonville’s secondary market.

Dumb rule, but it is what it is.

by rroan28 on Dec 13, 2009 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

yeabut,

It’s not really a secondary market for jax if nobody here likes them. They’ve been fairly successful at football, but if they haven’t created fans in orlando in 15 years, i think they’re not going to start. Tampa (nfc) Miami (afc) should share the same markets as they are the two south florida teams. Jax is pretty much south georgia, so maybe its markets should be the same as ATL.
