Dolphins vs Jaguars: Prediction Time
It's that time again. Below are some "expert picks" - though how much of an expert are they? After all, everyone picked the Dolphins to beat the Bills two weeks ago. And then most picked the Pats do knock off the Dolphins last week. So yeah - not exactly "experts." Regardless, be sure to share your predictions below.
| Chris Mortensen - Jax |
Adam Schefter - Jax |
Tom Jackson - Mia |
| Ron Jaworski - Mia |
Mike Ditka - Mia |
PFT - Mia |
| Pete Prisco - Jax | Harmon Forecast - Jax | Clark Judge - Mia |
| Peter King - Mia | Jason Cole - Jax | Michael Silver - Mia |
I figured this game would be picked pretty evenly on both sides and that's exactly what we're seeing. Interesting thoughts shared within the PFT pick - which was made by Gregg Rosenthal and not Mike Florio (they divide up games evenly each week to pick games). Rosenthal writes that "Miami might be the most underrated team in football." He also adds, "The Dolphins just realized Chad Henne is pretty damn good and will let him throw the Dolphins right into the playoff mix."
I think that's the way this game will go - weather permitting, of course. There could be some rain, which could cause Dan Henning to curtail the number of intermediate pass plays he calls. But if it isn't raining, I think we'll see Henne throw the football against this suspect Jacksonville secondary.
In the end, though, I think the Dolphins will win this game on defense. They have to contain Maurice Jones-Drew as best they can. This rush defense has been allowing over 5 yards per carry in their last three games. But MJD hasn't been as effective of late, either. Could the wear and tear of being "the guy" for the first time in his career be taking a toll? Maybe. Either way, the Dolphins have to do whatever it takes to force David Garrard to throw.
In the end, I think the Dolphins pull out a very close win. Something like 20-16 or 24-20.
My Week 14 Locks
Colts -6.5 over Broncos - I'm sure you all know by now that I'm not a believer in the Broncos. Peyton Manning will throw for 300 yards and a few touchdowns en route to a comfortable win.
Packers -2.5 over Bears - I've been on the Packer bandwagon since training camp. They're rolling now and GB's defense will force a couple of Jay Cutler turnovers.
Saints -9.5 over Falcons - I just don't see how a banged up Atlanta offense will have the firepower needed to keep up with New Orleans.
Cardinals -2.5 over 49ers - Arizona is another very hot team right now and the 49ers gave up any chance of catching the Cards by losing to Seattle last week.
Last Week: 2-1
Season: 21-19-1

I disagree
I think Miami is gonna have a comfortable win 14 to 17 points.
No Mathis, Henderson and No Sims Walker.(If they indeed dont play and the elements are fair)
Thats huge i know there ranked 12th in Rush D but thats with Henderson. Ricky gets 115 yards on the ground and Henne and the recieving core have a similar day.
I think Miami shows the Jags who they really are. Which is the worst 7-5 team and the worst team making a playoff run.
Absolutely bad pass rushing and a hurt, pedestrian secondary.
And the defense brings the heat with lots of pressure and sacks. MJD will have a good half. I say this is because Miami is gonna get on top early and put Jacksonville in a position to only pass and we are gonna see some Cam Wake.
I see Miami doing good things.
But we will see after sunday if my predictions were accurate.
31-17
one thing that scares me about this game
is Garrard making plays with his feet. I don’t wanna see what happend with fitzpatrick in buffalo and thigpen last year. Qb’s that can scramble is the achilles heel of this defense.

I agree!
A mediocre team minus some of their best players does NOT add up to a competitive game vs. the Phins.

We're are not a mediocre team
We have talent and playmakers. A mediocre team would be the Chicago Bears. We’re an average team at worst. A Wildcard chaser at best.

We’re an average team at worst. A Wildcard chaser at best.
This would hint that we are not always and not never mediocre.

Wins against Kansas City, Buffalo, and St. Louis all by 3 points each and an 0-41 loss to Seattle?
Sounds mediocre, at best, to me.

no, thats the characteristic of a young team
How about you try to do better when you have 28 new people on roster.

Phins 27 Jags 20
The one thing that scares me is Garrard scrambling all over the place…we need to keep him in the pocket.
Getting up early on the Jags is the key…they are built on MJD and if they get down 10 early, they tend to go away from him, trust me…I own MJD in way to many leagues.
Throwing the football is where its at right now…you gotta adapt to whats working. Im not so confident in our running attack anymore, injuries are the only reason why. Let Henne dink it and dunk it, then run it on short distance 2nd downs….2nd and 4’s or 5’s after a DBess or Ricky short pass on 1st is when our running attack works best right now.
No….Pat…..White. Its over. Stop it. Teach him how to return punts, and start getting him some reverse plays ready for net year. Stop throwing away downs during our playoff push.
Our season is on Chad Henne now…How cool is it that hes getting this experiance? If CP10 doesnt get hurt…..he might still be in the holster. next year these games are gonna be huge for him.
Its ours for the taking…..go get it.

I say they should fo to pat white what they did to Daniel stern in “rookie of the year”. Lock his ass in the locker room for the game

beat me to it
i wouldn’t be suprised to see him tuckin the ball away and trying to move the chains with his feet I feel its the one edge they have over us in this game

(Norman? Is he related to Albert? I guess we know who isn't a genius.)
This is a must win game...
And it should be a very good game. Too bad I won’t get to watch it…
This game will look alot like our MNF game with the Jets….a helluva good game.
But I look for the Phins to be on top after the game.

Dolphins win by about 10!
If I understand correctly, even if we win out, the Ravens or Pats must lose a game. We will be rooting for this same Jax team in a couple of weeks.
Go Dolphins!!

you live in Jax?
I went to high school there—before they had the jags, so my Dolphin allegiance was never tested, lol.

Your crazy to think that MIAMI only throws up ten points. No ofense but, your Defense is mediocre at best.
We’ve thrown up 20+ points on those Defenses who are much better than that of Jacksonville. So you’ll be lucky to keep us below 20+. So MJD better be running his little butt off to keep up. Which I don’t see happening. If we can keep that one big play rom happening earlt. I see you guys getting down and having to keep MJD in to block the pass rush. Which we’ll leave you with screens all day if possible, but could be successful with this team. As our secondary hasnt been known to be able to tackle somedays. I see MJD having more receiving yards out of the backfield than Rushing yards. I f the weathers clear this game isn’t close. If the rain comes it could be anyone’s game, but I have to give the nod to Miami’s Defense to stop you guys. Rain = 21 Miami 17 Jacksonville, Clear = 31 Miami 17 Jacksonville.

If history is any indicator the game will be wither blown away by one team
by 20+ points or won by 7 or less. I think a number of things could happen to make you score 10 points. Have fun with your expectations, i perfer low ones that can be met.

We have a breakout game that will build some momentum into the final 3 games of the year.
If I'm a chicken, you're a turkey....
this game worries me a bit
even though some of the match ups do look good on paper. Garrard is good qb— not great, granted, but good, A LOT better than most posters here seem to think. Sims-Walker can make plays, and I worry about Marcedes doing what tight ends have done to us all year—own the middle of the field. These guys have won games without MJD, and they will not be a pushover.
all that being said, I know we can do it. Even missing a quarter of our best players we are a pretty good team right now. I think this looks something like the Panthers game, a see-saw affair that, hopefully, ends with us on top.
by Brooklynfinfan on Dec 12, 2009 10:30 AM EST reply actions
I think this game is going to look close
on the score board but that’s it. Dolphins are not a high scoring team, more of a clock managing team.
With that said, I expect this team to play sound, controlled, dominating football. Miller Jenuine Draft is going to have a solid outing but kept out of the endzone. My greatest fear is Gerrard, the guy can flat out run and make plays with his feet.
With that said this coaching staff is going to be forced to play Wake more in the second half. And force Gerrard to stay in the pocket like a caged baby calf for Wakes taking!24-10 DOLPHINS!!!
I think we could win this one by ten.

O-line gel
A link that my son (2nd generation Fin fan) just emailed to me regarding our O-line gelling. Our family is now working on the third generation. She is almost 2 years old and has great propensity to the ball. You gotta pass down your religion to your kids. Gotta.

David Garrard worries me
He is ten times the passer and ten times the runner that Fitzpatrick is/was.
Jacksonville’s O-Line is better than Buffalo’s.
Use Culver and Clemons instead of Bell and Wilson and have them double the TE.
LBs instead of covering (or failing to cover) the TE should be used to cover the flats against flairs/screens to the backs and to keep containment on Garrard.
I predict Fins win in OT 26-23.
Abandoned the Draft Sean Smith at #25 Bandwagon to Join the Draft Sean Smith at #61 Bandwagon and get Vontae Davis and Chris Clemons. Trio > me.
I feel better about this game than I did about the game in Buffalo two weeks ago
Dolphins 34 Jags 24
I think the Henne air show continues to roll on Sunday. Fasano will have two TDs; Hartline will have one. Ricky Williams should also find the end zone.
Three things I am looking for tomorrow:
1) Cam Wake against Jacksonville’s young tackles.
2) Chad Henne against a suspect Jax secondary.
3) Sean Smith looking to rebound from the bizarro TD he gave up last week.
I’d like to kick off this four-game “must win” stretch with a beating in northern Florida. Let’s hope the Dolphins build on what they did against the New England Shats.

a Must-win for Miami
and I think we get it. Whatever Sparano is doing, it’s working, because we are winning in crunch-time. Last season, we needed to win out to get in the playoffs, in December, the month that separates pretenders (see, Dallas) from contenders. We won out. Sparano is undefeated in December, and I don’t think Jacksonville is the team that’s going to end that. I have a feeling the defense will play some inspired football Sunday, and we’ll win comfortably 27-10.

lets relax with all the blowout predictions
you should always caution against looking past an opponent. why would anyone think that this team is just gonna blow by the jags?? it really does irk me when i see this kinda stuff. its not like we are the colts or saints and can just put up points at will. then i could see us talking about an easy win. but c’mon! this is the same team that barely got by the bucs! a team that got pummeled by buffalo, with a patchwork offensive line, one which includes a guy that they picked up the week before after being cut by….wait for it….DETROIT of all teams!!! please please, come back down to earth people. lets hope for a big win. i think we will be fighting tooth and nail for it.
