Observations vs PATRIOTS
Observations vs PATRIOTS
losing sucks, but to be honest. this one doesnt hurt. The Patriots were just the better team. i like a lot what i ve seen in the game and there are a few things that shock and scare me.
Let's start with the negative points:
- RUN DEFENSE, oh boy, the Fins better buy Fergueson some Kabbalah Water and a 21 yr old girlfriend. I do think that Soliai is coming a long and progressing but he seems not to have the gas for a full game.
- PASS RUSH, JT played well, JP not so much... the most effictive blitzer was (once more) Wake,. with his speed rush he is able to force the QB to step up into the pocket or gets to the QB. I think Porter is still not healthy.
- LB, without Crowder our run defense looks shaky, his intensity was missed. I do believe that an upgrade over Ayodele is needed. We need also more speed on the LB position.
- OLINE, what happened? after a few dominating games they played the 2nd weak (2.5 - +saints second half) performance in a roe. Ronnie Brown was angry at Jake Long for missing that block on the outside run. Big Jake seems to have lost his a-game lately. I also feel like that our OLine needs too much help from the RB, TE in protection duties.
in general im a positive person (lol) but there are a few points who really concerne me, the points above can be fixed in short term, the following points - not so much.
- WR / TE
- OFF formations / sets
- OFF play calling
this to me effects each other a lot. Since Ginn got benched (blame and hate him as much as you want) our running game regressed. to me Henning gets way to much credit for the Wild Cat. I dont like the job he is doing right now. I scouted the Patriots myself and watched the 2 last games vs. the Bucs and Titans and the one obious thing that i really toughed and made me believe why we win is - they have really poor Cornerback, i mean really really poor cornerback. Butler is a rookie who turns the back to the QB a lot. Bodden is not fast, i would call him more average or even slow. Without Ginn the Patritos didnt care about the deep ball and played very agressive and with the safeties in the box leaving the Corners 1 vs 1.
Lets real talk and face it, what we got is one 1 WR who can burn everybody but struggles to catch the ball in traffic, 2 posession receivers who wont outrun Rex Ryan, 1 rookie WR who drops balls as well and a TE who lost his swagger in the season opener.
the Patriots were also very thin on Corner. After i got the news that Crowder and Ferg wont play i was sure we are gonna see Patrick Turner.
Dont get me wrong, he is a rookie and it takes them 1-3 years to become impact players but the one thing you can read about Turner is that he catches everything. Except Camarillo all our Receivers got the droppsies. Turner is also a target who might force opponents to keep a safety back.
FINALLY, to the point i criticyce our coaches a lot. Why the heck dont we have a 4 or 5 wr set?????? Colts, Chargers, Giants, Steelers, Pats, all have 4-5 WR set to give their QB options. And playing with 4-5 WR would force the most opponents to activate an another CB and deactivate an additional LB, or S. with our power running game that would make it even harder for them to stay fresh in the 4th.
Dan Marino said it right, that Ginn the one and only deep treath needs to be on the field.
I cant believe we didnt take one single shot deep. What i hate about Henning is, instead of risking a shot, he comes up with crap like screens to Bess or that Wild Cat trick play who ended up giving us - 300 yds.
Henne to me seems really to be the possible answer, but stop putting him in bad situations.
Another thing why i wanna see multiple WR formations. RB is sooo good in the open space, throw screens to him, let him run out of the shot gun etc.
MATCH UPS !!!! we are still way to vanilla and predictable. We are not looking for match ups and play stiff. Why not moving Ginn around to get him on the player you want. Against the Saints, we were only once able to line him up vs Sharper (who aint a speed burner anymore) and that almost or should have forced a flag)
How many times did Moss play Sean Smith??? How many times did Wes Welker play Sean Smith?
both sides we need to play the match ups we want and not the ones the opponent want. Sean Smith on Moss, Vontae Davis on Welker, period!
POSITIVE STUFF
- OUR YOUNG CB's, wow the future looks so bright, both Smith and Davis are big time players. Vontae's pick was sweet, he tackles like Rex Ryan eats apple pie (after the dust settles down, there is nothing left) and the WR is planted.
- HENNE, didnt have his best game but damn he to me right now is a good actor in a bad movie surrounded by bad cast and writers
- FIELDS/CARPENTER/SPECIAL TEAM, i guess Sparano told Fields that the special team progressed and doesnt hold him back anymore, he got a badass booming legg, Carpenter just nails it, and we dont give up big time returns on a consistant basis.
- PASS RUSH aka RANDY STARKS/CAM WAKE - Cameron Wake must be the most efficiant pass rusher in the NFL lol - he plays about 3 snaps a game and gets 3.5 sacks, Randy Starks continues to come up with big plays, and JT with Roth back gets better and better.
- JASON ALLEN, as soon he stepped in for Vontae, they he had the Pats bullseye between the eyes, he answered with a nice play in the end zone on Randy Moss
that being said - call it loser mentality or whatever but i dont care how that season ends. there are a few very favorable match ups on our schedule and the worst part is behind. but the thing i want the most are not the playoffs - good and early draft picks. drafting between 10-15 would be nice. We really do need playmakers. the team got so much better already but we need
WR
ILB
TE
NT
OLB
RB (speeeeeeeeeeed) a DeAngelo Williams, change of pace type of player would be nice w/ Ronnie
OG
S-U-P-E-R B-A-D
i know its not Tuna-like but i want us to make a splash in FA.
NT Wilfork (get a weight clause in his contract, he was a better player 1-2 season ago)
WR Brandon Marshall, he is one of the leading YAC Widereceivers and would provide us with what we need
PS:
- i cant' believe we didnt invite Brandon London back for a try out with the receiver play we are getting right now...
Please let me know what you guys liked and what you guys hated.

4-/5-WR sets
another reason why i request this, we dont have the WR who can get open within 2 seconds – with 4 or 5 wr the opponent is not able to all out blitz you and nail Henne
OLine is still not good in blitz pick up

You aren't getting Wilfork...
…he’s the reason we shipped off Seymour.

He only wears the Hoodie...
…because he’s Obie Wan. AND THERE IT IS! We just figured out how he’s hoodwinked the Raiders.
Al Davis: “We’re looking for some stud players and a 1st rounder for Randy Moss.”
Hoodie: “These are not the picks you’re looking for.”
Al: “What?”
BB: “Have a 4th rounder”
Al: “That’s the pick I’m looking for?”
BB: “Yes.”
etc etc etc.

It's actually a Jedi cloak.
You fell for the old Jedi mind trick – those WERE the droids you were looking for.

Wilfork
and with what cap room do you guys plan to resign him + you got about 3000 draft picks in 2010… not gonna work out
by Crowder 911 on Nov 9, 2009 9:39 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
We can resign him...
…because we’re getting younger. We don’t use our 1st round picks on 1st rounders- we use them to get two 2nd rounders and a late rounder. All for the same price (if not cheaper!). Those mid rounders are cheaper and just as effective as a first rounder who wants a big paycheck.

lol
thats maybe because im not american and english is not my main language…
RB is no need? umm Ronnie is 28 and a FA, Ricky is 32, Cobbs is not a pure RB, Hilliard is the same type of back like Ronnie. If you complain about my bad grammar – how about you first read it. I said what we lack is a change of pace RB.

sorry then
and Ronnie is 27 but I think he could last longer than most RBs because due to hislack of carries, maybe in a few years we can find his replacement

Actually, we do have a change of pace RB.
Kory Sheets. He is the super speedy elusive back that would be a good change of pace to Ronnie.
As for your FA ideas, Wilfork would be a steal if we could get him, but I think he will re-sign with the Pats. They dumped Seymour to create cap space for him, and as for their draft picks, they could very well trade them for future picks. And for Marshall, I think he’s finally coming on board to staying in Denver, I don’t see them as letting him go either.
