Let me be the first to say this out loud: NO MORE WILDCAT.  I’m sick of it.  I used to be a big fan of it and now I think it’s the single biggest problem with our offense.  With 5 losses to our record, a wild-card playoff spot in a tough AFC is pretty much out of the question.  The division race isn’t over yet.  We still play the Pats at home and they still play Indy and the Saints (on the road) in 2 of the next 3 weeks – with a pissed-off Jets team in between.  Having said that, I think it’s time that we start playing for next year.  To do that, we need to bury the WC forever.

I think right now our team lacks an identity on offense. If we want to be a power running team, let’s do it.  If we want to be a passing team, like the trend in the rest of the NFL, then let’s do it.  But please no more in-between.  We have a rookie QB who has all the intangibles to be successful.  But he still needs a lot of work.  And the only way he’s going to get it is to stop being taken out the game every time we run the WC.  Our offensive line is young, talented and very rich.  Let them jell together as a unit in the base offense.  Our receivers may be mediocre, but spreading the ball around masks they’re weaknesses and actually open’s up holes in the running game.  This team could be good on offense if would just stick to it instead of going to the WC every time we need a spark.  How are we going to get better if we have 4 different players taking snaps in the same drive?

The season is a building block for next year.  Our record will be worse, but we’ll still be a better team at the end than we were last year.  We have a QB of the future and young stars in the making at key positions.  Now if only the coaching staff would get on board…..

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

agreed

he’s not a rookie. But he’s just made his 5th start, which is less than some rookies. And they treat him like rookie with the play calling.

i agree with medic

we ant going to stop using the wildcat, it puts our best players on the field and now with pat white it just makes it more difficult to cover. secondly we ant going to be a good passing team until we get a recievr who could be trusted

Keep the WildCat

Your thought process isn’t that bad but I think it is part of the offense but I agree with Medic .. no need to get rid of it yet. Henne will get plenty of work as the season moves on, playoffs will only happen if we win out which will be very difficult so I’m seing more of a 8-8 record which will position us nicely for next year .. more talent added and not such a crazy schedule will make things better.

by markus_13 on Nov 8, 2009 5:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

are schedule is not that big a reflection of our record

only two games are decided on how good we do this year, and theyre picked on how we do relative to the teams in our division. the other 14 teams we play are already set regardless of how we do the rest of the year. just so ya know

2010 Dolphins schedule

HOME: Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Detroit, AFC South

AWAY: Baltimore, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Minnesota, AFC West

And then six against the division.

If things were to finish as they are, us in 3rd place. We’d get Jacksonville at home, and Oakland on the road.

disagree

its part of a package that will eventually give us a stronger identity. we weren’t moving the ball with the conventional offense particularly well, anyway. yes, we had an f’d-up wc reverse where henne got put down. deflating.
but i actually like the pat white experiment.
lets just be more conventional! no thanks.

I vote to keep it

and I like the option plays including Ricky’s TD. Let’s get some triple option like Navy runs. You can’t just give up because something doesn’t work everytime.

We have no passing game!!

It’s how we get big plays! Of course we have to keep the wildcat!

In high school football, you do what puts your best players on the field

My high school ran the triple option because we didn’t have anyone who could effectively throw the ball, but we had several fast players with good field vision. So obviously, this was the best way to get the ball in the hands of our playmakers.

In the NFL, it’s no different. The thing about the NFL is that change is resisted by the masses. All the talk about the Wildcat being a gimmick is proof positive of that.

The reason Henning rolled out the Wildcat is because we have two great running backs, and this allows them to do what they do best, which is, get the ball in their hands and make a play.

Think about it, we have several players that can make great things happen, if they have the ball in their hands. Ginn can’t catch, but he can run fast. Feed him on reverses. Brown is a threat to run and pass(2 passing TDs now), give him the ball. White is a threat to run and pass(maybe?), Williams can run and catch.

We don’t have a single big-play wide receiver on this roster. Turner obviously isn’t the answer if he can’t suit up. Henne needs time to learn, yes, but throwing balls to guys that roll around in butter and vaseline pregame isn’t helping him learn.

Let’s just give the ball to our playmakers, and ride them as far as it will take us.

Keep the best players on the field

I have no problem putting both Ricky and Ronnie on the field at the same time. Just replace Polite. I think it adds another wrinkle to the offense when both R@R are in the backfield with Henne taking the snap out of the shotgun.

We’re a running team….so let’s run the run the ball. And then run some more. Just NOT out of the WC.

by crossborderFISHingtrip on Nov 8, 2009 9:28 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You know, the Wildcat really isn't that crazy

It’s power running plays with a unbalanced line.

The play that won the Monday Night game against the Jets, was a play they highlighted earlier in the game.

They were talking about Bill Callahan and the ’02 Raiders, and talked about how they loved to use 96 Power King, where you pull the LG around to help create a lane between RG/RT.

On the game winning play, Smiley pulled and worked with Thomas to create the lane for Ronnie. All the Wildcat does is remove the middle man, as there’s no longer an QB/RB exchange.

The wildcat and wildpat can't go until Henne proves he can

throw two straight completions without taking a 10 yard sack or forcing the ball everytime he doesn’t

by MauMontaV5 on Nov 8, 2009 8:14 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Eventually the wildcat will be forced out as Henne matures

The whole logic of the Wildcat is that you don’t have a good QB, so you circumvent the entire process, and bring in another blocker. NO could run the Wildcat effectively, but they have no need because they have a good QB.

Hey, fox, seeing you are the only one around. I guess we are on the same page

on Henne basically having sucked the last 3 games. Would you give any thought to bringing back Pennington next season while drafting a 1st round, top 10 qb?

by MauMontaV5 on Nov 8, 2009 8:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree, we do have to give him time. But anybody who still says

he is “impressed” with him, is a homer. He is just not showing up. Yes, he is not making awful mistakes, but he is not making anything happen at all. He keeps taking dumb, predictable sacks, one which took us out of FG range today. He is being inaccurate again, he gives up on routes too easily and throws the ball away. He forces balls too much. And this is with him being treated like a baby. What will happen when they hand him the keys to the offense? I don’t want to think about it. Plus, something nobody is saying, he is too cold, he doesn’t inspire leadership when thing are going wrong. And don’t think I’m getting off the bandwagon, I never got in

by MauMontaV5 on Nov 8, 2009 8:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm just willing to give him a pass for a while

Everyone got their wish, we get to see if he is the answer or not. I figure the best way to find that out is if we give him time. Instant gratification is the exception, not the rule.

I don't think Henne is bad

He’s still growing and learning. Pennington is good, but at this point, it would be a regression for the Dolphins in general. Remember Henne wasn’t supposed to take over yet, he was still being tutored by CP10 for 2010. Thigpen is, well I don’t know. I think he’s a very capable QB, who got a shitty rap in KC. Saints D is rather good, Pats D is relatively good, and he didn’t really get too much time in the Jets game, because Ginn stole whatever stats he might have accumulated during the 2 returns. Sure, they might not have scored both Jets drives, but more time is taken off, and you are looking at a 23-17 game, Miami win. A QB is completely unnecessary for any pick. A receiver, TC, and R. McClain are definitely on the shopping list. Henne is definitely better than Sanchez, but lucky for Sanchez (much like Flacco), he doesn’t have to be especially good because his D is carrying the load. Unfortunately for Henne, our D is suspect at best.

Good argument. But, Henne is not better than Sanchez. You could argue they are the same

but Henne’s had 2 complete off season and part of another season to prepare for the job. Sanchez is a rookie. The difference between the interceptions and mistakes is that Shoetnhimer (Jets OC) at first was treating Sanchez like a real qb, passing out of the shot gun a whole lot and going deep a lot too. While Henne is treated like a little baby. I don’t believe he went downfield once today.

by MauMontaV5 on Nov 8, 2009 8:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Eh, everyone has their good game

but for a majority of the games, J. Russel has had better stats than Sanchez. Plus Edwards, Cotchery and Keller are better than anything we have. Looking at the game, if Sanchez were a better QB, we would have had wayyyyy worse stats, because of Sanchez’s pass placement. The spot he puts his throws makes the receiver stop and adjust to the throw, allowing the defender to get over to the receiver and make the stop. Plus our secondary (again) didn’t make it especially difficult, but that’s to be expected with 3 rookies. Henne’s problem is that he hasn’t played against a secondary as bad as OURS yet.

Sure, but anyone could argue exactly the same against Henne.

The fact is that Sanchez has shown that he can take over a game and when all the rookie mistakes are over with experience and whatnot, he is going to be good. Henne hasn’t shown that yet. Even in the “awesome” first Jet win, on that last drive he had lots of help from the running game and even Pat White.

And Pennington ain't comin back. I would put quite a large sum of money on the fact that he's retiring for good.

I'm not sure. This FO owes him big and if he asks, I'm sure they'd give him a shot

to be here on Training camp. This out of curiosity, today, while watching the game, who would you rather have had in there, Pennington or Henne?

by MauMontaV5 on Nov 8, 2009 8:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Henne. But with play calling, there wouldn't have been any noticable difference.

They don’t seem to have given Henne his own book, but just copied and pasted Pennington’s game-management

You know that's not true. There is no way you are telling me Pennington

wouldn’t have had a better game than Henne did today. Just no way. You are porbably answering Henne because of the long term thing and all but that’s not the question

by MauMontaV5 on Nov 8, 2009 8:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I did see Henne make a few throws that I don't think Pennington has the arm strength to make

However, there were also a lot of decision-making errors from Henne that Pennington wouldn’t have made.

I’ll call it a push. Same result, different ingredients.

by rroan28 on Nov 8, 2009 9:37 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

I’d like to see the offense get a little more vertical…but I think that’s a product of not having anyone that can get downfield separation(and catch)

by rroan28 on Nov 8, 2009 11:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well if you are referring to ted ginn....

Like that one catch in the MNF jets game then i think (mainly to not allow other teams to stack the box) to allow ginn to go deep most plays i mean the way i see it the worst that could happen is 1. They intercept it pretty deep which is basically a punt 2. Incomplete pass
because if henne can replicate that catch on MNF you have to be really bad not to catch that pass…. and even i don’t believe ted ginn is that bad… Obviously you won’t be able to do that on every play but if he can catch a few of them then it will ease up our running game also it’s a really good decoy.
Not completely relevant but I really love the Wildpat; pat white is dare i say a decent runner and having the threat of ronnie brown, ricky williams possibly getting the option then it’s pretty hard not to be effective.

by gamer3102 on Nov 8, 2009 11:18 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

On that pass...

he reeled it in, but when you watch how he caught it, he didn’t use his hands. He trapped it against his chest. It’s pure luck and statistically improbable that he caught that ball, and that it’s not another mark on the Ginn-hate-list

I've noticed that a lot of the catches he does make are pretty ugly.

I don’t think he’s truly comfortable trusting his hands to catch the ball.

I know...,

but I’ll never forget that one that stuck to his gloves in the endzone at the Meadowlands last year.

I loved the way he held it up to the crowd like he was just as surprised as everybody else, but was still like, “Look at this, bitches!!”

You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four.

no more wild cat please

i do agree to a certain point, as soon Henne and the Offense made some plays and get the drive going. Henning comes up with some stupid crap and puts Henne in 3rd and 55 situations….hate it.

What the heck happened to our OLine, they cant block a junior league team right now.
