Marino to the Jets
Yes, I know this title is a little misleading but it got your attention didnt it. Im sure everyone here knows the whole debacle surrounding Brett Favre and Minnesota going into Green Bay and beating his old team, so I wont get into details, but in some ways the way Green Bay let go of their icon Brett Favre to start their young promising QB Aaron Rogers reminds me of the way Wanstache dumped Marino for Feidler, Any way the two QBs definitely took two separate routes with Marino not wanting to retire and pondering the idea of playing for Minnesota, but instead eventually retiring. Brett Favre decides to stay in the game and eventually ending up playing for Green Bays divisional rival (Minnesota) and coming into town and beating them. Now most of Green Bay hates him (as seen from the boos at the beginning of the game Sunday).
My question is had Marino decided not to retire when he did, and landed on a division rival the way Brett Favre did, and came into town and spanked us the way Minnesota did on both the away game and home game would he still be an icon in South Florida. Would you eventually forgive him and say he got the bad end of the stick from the Dolphins FO? Or consider him a trader for life?

Tough call.
I think the way Favre wanted to play for Minnesota more than any other team is what has cost him the fan base. If it had been incidental, no problem… but vocalizing your desire to play for your old team’s division rival is a dick move. I’d be livid with Marino if he ever did that.

I wouldn't care at all.
Specially beause HE DIDN’T WANT TO GO, just like Favre didn’t either. If you really admire him or “love” him, then you’ll want him to do what he believes he should do and you’ll support him. Again, specially because it is clear that he never wanted to leave your and his beloved team, but was shown the door and still wanted to play football. Let’s not forget this is all the life they know. This is absolutely all they know and what makes the them and their families happy. If he’s happy im happy.

I think it would diminish his "icon status" a bit amongst Dolphin fans.

he could've went to the vikes, but he said no, he IS a Dolphin

no way
marino could have won a superbowl with the jets and would still be a dolphins legend. he was much more than a football god to the miami area. i think there is even a hospital named after him. he was a community hero not just a football qb. no way he would even be considered a traitor. not im my mind

If Dan Marino would’ve went to play for a division rival especially the Jests or Patsies the way Favre went to the Vikes, It would be a slap in the face to the fan base and I wouldve never forgiven him for that. Especially if he knocked us out of the playoffs or playoff contention. Which could happen with Green Bay.

Wouldnt really bother me
Packers basically kicked Favre out just like that moron Wanstedt didnt offer to re-sign Marino, Favre still wanted to play I don’t blame him the Pack didn’t want him, tough deal with it. Marino almost signed with the Vikings with a cast around him like Randy Moss Chris Carter Robert Smith tough defense I honestly wish he would have went to Minnesota because he would have had a great shot at winning the Super Bowl that year that team was sick!!!

I would have had no problem with Marino signing with 28 other teams
Just hated division rivals. And the NFC would be have been better. I would have loved to have seen him play for the Vikes and get a SB ring, then if they wouldve played Miami I would have applauded him when he came onto the field, but of course pulled for Miami.

I think its a non issue because Marino has 10 times the class of Brett and he would have never done it.

Yeah, I cannot imagine Marino ever suiting up for those douchebags
I think Dan was very conscious of not shitting where he ate, and he clearly still had a little gas left in the tank (despite playing injured in ‘99, he had some GREAT performances. I remember watching him best Peyton Manning in the RCA Dome with a killer 4th quarter drive). And like Matty said, he turned down a Vikings team that featured a strong Robert Smith-led ground game and arguably the league’s deadliest receiving corps at that time.
Think about it: Dan retires and Minnesota gets to the NFC championship game with Daunte Culpepper. What do you think they would have done with #13 behind center? Gaudy!

Id be mad..
but it would depend on circumstances….Jimmy kinda pushed him out…he was SO CLOSE to going to Minnesota…..and at the time i woulda understood it….and its the Vikings…so not much to care about…i woulda actually rooted for them big time.
The Jets? Woulda never happend…JT said never…Marino def wouldnt…BUT if he did…I woulda been ashamed….yet in the end hed still be my fav player of alltime
Mark my words…in 10 years Favre will trot out to midfield in GB and be loved….its just the NOW that gets ppl. If they do any diffrent….its just being ignorant to what the guy did for you.
You get 1 shot at playing….if ur pushed out….and you wanna play still….in my eyes you have the right to play….its just the flip floppin Favre did that kills everyone.

Marino didn't play for the Vikes cause he knew it was his time.
Wannstedt would have taken him, but Marino knew the Dolphins had no chance of getting him a championship. Marino chose to walk away because he didn’t want to end up like past QBs such as Unitas, Namath, Kosar, or Stabler who finished their careers playing horribly for other teams. The only thing that made him even consider the Vikes offer was ending his career with a 62-7 beatdown in the playoffs.
But hypothetically if it were to happen, I don’t think I’d be as mad if he had gone to the Jets. Now if it was the Bills, then he would have lost all of my respect.

In my opinion...
I don’t think Dan would have ever played for any eastern rival. I think he didn’t go to the Vikings because his heart was in Miami. So this fictional situation could not have happened! I’m a Finfan no matter what, but I don’t think Danny would have played for one of our rivals, he has more class in his pinky than Favre has in his whole body.

and I lost alot of respect for Favre for what he did to his former team (going to play for a division rival), also playing for the Jets made me lose respect for him, because you know "the Jets SUCK’
