Dolphins sign CB Evan Oglesby

I happy to announce that Miami has signed a player to take over Fergs roster spot. The Fins signed Evan Oglesby. Evan Oglesby himself announced on his Twitter account that he has signed with the Miami Dolphins and will be wearing # 41. Oglesby has played for both the Cowboys & Ravens. He has 35 tackles and two pass defended. Smart depth move by Miami. If one of our Corners were to go the Fins would be left with only three corners and it is something I dont want to imagine. The Fins currently have 10 players in their Secondary.

lets put it this way, if smith or davis it wont matter who we signed

if we lose one more startin corner it wont bode well for us. u think nathan jones can start with jason allen in the nickel ur dreamin, but yes still a good depth move if one of them were injured for a couple of series

Wait a second. If you asked me, Nate Jones is having a better season than Smith.

Of course one is a vet and occasional player while the other one is a rookie and starter, but still Jones is having a hell of a season. So if for some reason he had to start, I wouldnt worry too much. Also, Im sure J Allen could handle coming in for the nickel. He had a very good game against NE when he had to come in for the injured Davis. So just give them some credit.

Smith has been thrown to 44 times on 558 snaps.

That has him tied for 12th fewest times in the NFL among starters. 25 receptions, tied for 13th. That makes a percentage of balls caught at 56.8% or 18th in NFL.

Vontae on other hand, on 158 fewer snaps than Smith has been thrown to 45 times for 30 receptions and a percent of 66.7%.

Nate Jones, on 331 snaps, has been thrown to 29 times for 17 receptions and a percentage of 58.6.

Playing Nickel is much different then playing Right or Left Corner

There is a lot more different between these two corner spots then you think. Nate Jones is having a great year at corner, but the matchups and routes and amount of pressure riding on every snap is different then being in the slot then on the outside.

I'm confused about this signing......

We already have sufficient depth at DB. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to sign an OL or DT/NT?

Evan Oglesby is no superstar, but he's a solid, young (28), vet nickel corner...

Well i think this signing tells us one of two things

either there is no one in our PS or on the FA that is better than what we have or Sparano feels confident enough in what we have to address other issues.

Considering Sparano’s Forte is the O-line I am confident the right choice was addressed.

by Ex Sniper on Nov 24, 2009 11:18 AM EST reply actions

Agreed

We are fine at offensive line. Nate Garner is an asset as a backup, and I think this move is more telling about how Sparano feels about them. I should assume that Jake Grove and/or Joe Berger will be fine, or that he’s confident in NG to spell them if necessary.

It says similarly positive things about his confidence in Randy Starks and Tony McDaniels to man the nose if Soliai isn’t healthy enough (or competent enough) to do so.

I also like the move from a depth and security standpoint.
