Do I have to cheer for the Jets? Sunday Hell!!!

I hate Sunday's like today.  Don't get me wrong, I love watching the Dolphins in prime time, but without a Phins game on Sunday afternoon, I just feel lost.  This week it is especially tough because I got to thinking this morning that I might have to root for the Jets today.  No Dolphins game and having to root for the Jets, that is Sunday Hell for me!!!

So before you get all over me and wanting to ban me from the site, here is my reasoning.  The standings below show where the Phins stand today in the division.  With a Jets win today, NE (6-4) will hold a one game lead over the Dolphins (5-5) and the Jets (5-5).  The Phins would have the best record in the division (3-1), NE (2-2), and the Jets (2-3).  The Phins hold the tie breaker over the Jets because of the division record and beating them twice this year.

AFC East
Team W L T PCT PF PA Home Road DIV PCT AFC PCT NFC Streak
New England 6 3 0 .667 259 150 5-0 1-3 2-1 .667 4-3 .571 2-0 Lost 1
Miami 5 5 0 .500 242 244 3-2 2-3 3-1 .750 3-3 .500 2-2 Won 2
N.Y. Jets 4 5 0 .444 199 158 2-3 2-2 1-3 .250 4-4 .500 0-1 Lost 2
Buffalo 3 6 0 .333 140 210 1-3 2-3 1-2 .333 1-5 .167 2-1 Lost 2

So, with a Jets win today and a Phins win over NE on Dec. 6, the Phins and NE would have the same record at 7-5 (assuming both teams win next week).  Because of the division records the Phins (5-1) would hold the tie breaker over the Pats and essentially be leading the division.   I am sure most everyone here realizes this, but it still doesn't make me feel any better about rooting for the Jets.  I just needed to rationalize it to myself.  Agree or Disagree?

You gave me the gun... so I shot ya..!

Either loss is pleasing… a Pastie win, spirals the Jesters into wasted football games the rest of the season…

A Jester win brings the Dolphins closer to the playoffs..!

though with ronnie, fergie out I should be rooting for better draft position. Our best hope is N.O. beats the pats and we beat them. WEin out and we are in oneway or another

Personally, I’d take the Patriots over the Jest just to get them out of the wild card race. One less threat = one more chance at a Wild Card, should we not take the division.

If we’re aiming for a division also, its not wrong to think that either. Ideally, NE wins this anyways because NYJ is just a plain weak team, as they’ve proven the past weeks. NE wins here, then loses to NO next week, we’re still in a similar situation. All we have to do is stop the Patriots at home and we have the division lead. This is acceptable, however, we still have strong games against Houston, a recovering Jacksonville team, and the Steelers (Who are now struggling)

I’d take the Pats in this situation to at least solidify a Dolphin wild card slot if we cannot take the division, though it is possible at this point. Getting rid of the Jest here means we have a better chance at it.
