Can anybody answer this?
At the end of last nights game. It was 4th down with 2 yards to go near Carolina's 30 yard line with just over 2 minutes to play in the game. WHY did Coach Sparano go for it????? A field goal would have put us up by 10 points causeing Carolina to need 2 scores. INSTEAD though the Coach had what seemed to be a Belichek moment and went for it. This gave the Panthers the ball back which due to the dreaded prevent defense they were able to get the ball back to their own 30 with time for one play. Yes I know that hail mary passes don't normally work, but why even risk it? I'm beginning to believe that the Dolphins take some sort of pleasure out of giving me more gray hairs.

I asked the same thing and after the game
Sparano said that the field goal unit was already really patched up and was worried about them protecting the kicker or the ball being blocked. He also said that he put trust into our defense considering the panthers had no timeouts. Now I agree we should have kicked the damn ball but the coach did what he had to do and what he thought was right. Which is why I liked it. Remember all those times last year when he would go for it on 4th and 1? Sparano does what the hell he wants too lol and doesn’t care what we think.
I agree with the call..
Sparano’s decision was sound. At the time it happened I was yelling at the TV, but I wasnt taking into consideration that our O-Line was being decimated by injuries. A block run back for a touchdown and we are blasting him for not punting or going for it. He makes the 1st and he is a genuis. There have been some vey questionable calls this year, but our defense was playing well and its good to show some trust. I just wish the D would not make my blood pressure go sky high every week with 1:00 left in the game.
agreed.
julius peppers is fresh because he doesnt play all game and they are fast off the edges. no need to risk a block.

if a defense lets Joke Delhommie go down the field on them in the last minute to score a td then we deserve to lose
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

2 reasons
1.) they could have gotten a first down, game over
2.) A missing FG brings u back to where it was kicked from, they were in no mans land
3.) you can’t risk a blocked FG
4.) you can’t risk a blocked Punt
for all of these reasons thats why he let the panthers attempt to drive the field with no timeouts, great call.
Or maybe they didn't want to take a chance on an injury
Fans would have been asking why Williams was in there with 40 seconds left up by 7. Especially the way the injuries were raking up!

This is not as similar to the Patriots
Many reason…. a.) Delhomme is no Manning b.) Fins were in Panther territory, not their 29 yard line c.) a TD and PAT would tie the ball game not put the Panthers in the lead as it was with Cots v. Pats.
I think a punt would have been a better decision, giving the Panthers more yards to go. But a FG would not be an option because a missed or block gets the ball at least 7 yards back from the LOS.
The Patriots Suck
The main reason is injuries
We lost a couple key offensive linemen. Special teams, especially FGs (and long ones like that would have been) are tricky and everyone needs to know their responsibilities. When you have the big uglies in positions that they haven’t practiced the chances for someone breaking through are much higher. Add that to the lower trajectory of a long FG and you have the recipe for a block FG and possibly a TD.
I thought going for it was a good call but I would have liked to see them call for CH to look for Bess on a short pass….maybe even roll him to the right like they were doing with much success last night.

Keep in mind the terrible field conditions
Remember the opening kickoff?
Abandoned the Draft Sean Smith at #25 Bandwagon to Join the Draft Sean Smith at #61 Bandwagon and get Vontae Davis and Chris Clemons. Trio > me.
Yeah definitely not a good field in terms of conditions
Wonder if that had anything to do with the injuries. I only got to watch the last quarter and haven’t had the chance to go back and watch the recording of the whole game yet. Can’t wait. I listened to it on the radio and it sounded like a great game.

thanks for all the answers, I agree now
it was a great game but I really wish they would have a game closed up by the 3d and not even remotely let the opponant back in the game in the 4th. I don’t think I need this many grey hairs.
His reasoning was sound.
I would have called a different play TBH
