Wassup Dolphins faithful? MaPatsFan dropping by from Beantown. A bit of a hammering on the Titans, a romp 'cross the pond at Wembley, and we're back home in good 'ol Foxborough, MA. We're struggling to find our third receiver behind Randy Moss and ex-Fin Wes Welker, but rookie Brandon Tate, recently off the PUP, seems to be coming along nicely. With Fred Taylor out, we're still waiting for a workhorse RB to emerge (Laurence Maroney is doing ok, but certainly not turning heads).
Defensively, we've been lacking a solid pass rusher for a long time, but the secondary is finally starting to shape up; Brandon Meriweather is emerging as a leader and a rotating cast at CB have been holding down the fort. Enough of that. Fire away with any questions you have about my Patriots and I'll try to check back often and answer what you've got. Your fearless leader is doing the same at Pats Pulpit. Thank you for hammering the Jets, btw.

His Highness is back, dontcha know! At least that’s what every media mouthpiece was saying about Brady when the season started. He’s connecting better these days, so I wouldn’t be too confident on that hammer thing.

He's been steadily improving
A lot of it has to do with his receiver connections. If Brady is on the same page as Moss and Welker (ie: making the same adjustments), it’ll work out ok. That and the Phins are 21st in passing D.

He has been improving throughout the season. He played well against the Ravens and Broncos – but only for one half.
I still don’t think he’s back at full strength, though, so it will definitely be a challenge.

It took Peyton around 8 weeks to get back to playing like his old self
Tom had a whole year off, and has shown flashes.
Another thing that hasn’t been discussed much is that in between times, Welker and Moss had to try to establish timing with Cassel and get adjusted to his style of play. He wasn’t a plug in.
Now they are switching back over to Tom, so it isn’t just like throwing the Tommy switch. All three are adjusting. Galloway tried it and couldn’t adjust. He was plug awful.
Tom may not be all the way back, but some of the miscues might not have been his either. There are multiple options on most of the routes, and if they’re not on the same page with the route they’re choosing it’s an incompletion or worse a pick.
The Dolphins and Colts games will tell us alot.

Not if we can somehow find a pass rush
I have always said if you put pressure on Brady, he is an average QB at best that will make mistakes throwing the ball. But if we sit back and only rush 4 and they can’t get to him within 3 seconds, he will have a field day against our rookies.

How to beat the Patriots
Pass rush and lots of pressure. That’s how our mutual enemy, the Jets, managed to snag a W. On the offensive side, the Pats D is weak on the pass rush and the corners tend to leave a cushion; I could see Henne dinkin’ and dunkin’ his way to some points. The long bombs may not work because our safeties are doing fairly well.

based on the games vs the saints and colts
i thought just keeping brady off the field what be enough, as we did with manning and brees. we outplayed the colts for sure, and let the saints back in. i think it’ll be similar with this game… the only question is can miami keep with it for a full 4 quarters?

Burn up the clock with the run and keep Brady off the field.
Running through the middle is tough to do, but they’ve had some trouble setting the edge. They’ve given up some big plays there.

pounding the rock is something the dolphins are doing very well this year, but defense certainly hasnt done its share in the fourth quarter…
games against teams like the pats cant have a back and forth game into the fourth… we would lose

Im not so sure about that, the first couple of games it worked because
Brady was gun shine and inaccurate as hell which is why the pressure worked wonders. Thus he missed a bunch of wide open receivers. I don’t see that happening again. Specially after a full bye week

We have to run the ball well....
If we can run for 175 yards, control the clock, convert on high percentage of our 3rd downs, score TDs instead of settling for FGs, pressure Brady, and don’t commit any turnovers then we have a good shot at winning.
If I had to rank them….
1. Pressure Brady
2. Run the ball well
3. Convert 65% of 3rd downs
4. Score TDs not FGs
5. No turn overs
6. Control the clock

I think it borders more on unadulterated HATE.
With the Pats, I hate them because they have been so good for so long. They aren’t the same type of jackasses that the JEST are and therefore the hate is no where as deep.

The guy never drops the ball
I think in 4 years, I saw him drop 3 passes. The guy takes mammoth hits and just bounces back up. He isn’t the fastest guy in the league but his first 3 steps are as quick as anyone in the league and he gets open!

You guys got arguably the best slot receiver in the game
And probably one of the best of all time. He isn’t a great deep receiver but for balls within 10 yards of the LOS, Welker is tough to cover and you know he will catch it.

You're preaching to the choir, baby.
I’m a huge Welker fan. I love our Slot Machine. He would have been MVP in the Super Bowl if it hadn’t been for that sticky helmet. He was Brady’s only weapon for most of the game. Even doubled, he got open.
He sees openings in the defense, gets open, catches the ball, gets yards after, and is willing to drop the pads to get a first down. What’s funny though is he can lead the league in catches year after year (He’s leading this year again while missing 2 games). Amass 1000 yd seasons like nobody’s buisness, and be everyone’s first thought as the prototypical slot receiver. But he’ll never have a chance for a Hall of Fame career. He’s not a #1 receiver and people credit Moss and Brady with his success.

Fins passing D is in the bottom half and Pats are at #2. Granted, wins against Titans and Bucs had a lot to do with it, but it’s a strong suit for us. That and home field advantage will give us the edge. You may give us trouble on the rushing side of the house, though. The question is can Miami rack up enough yardage pounding the rock. I’m not sure it’ll be enough to counter NE’s aerial assault.

If you had to rate on a scale of 1 to 10 how much do you (and pats fans) hate the other teams in the division?
1 = dont hate them at all
10 = I wish had superpowers so I could blow up their plane in midflight
For us (feel free to disagree fellow phinsiders) Id say the Bills are like 6, Pats are like an 8 or a 9 and the Jets are about a 15 (lol).
And before any of yall disagree about the bills lets focus on the most recent versions of the teams….if that’s the case then the Bills are just team that we hate but kind of pity lol

The run defense...
…is questionable. We’ve had some issues the past couple of weeks of stopping the feature backs of certain teams and I would but the Dolphins’ tandem up there with the best, if not THE best. I would more attribute those to our young secondary and how our D has been forced to have more passing D on the field in order to give more support. However, I must say that their recent development (albeit against the winless teams) will provide our defense more of a chance to stack the box and better contain the Wildcat.
All in all, I have to say that this all depends on how well we can tackle at the initial point of contact (something we’ve struggled to do) and how well our LBers step up and attack the gaps.

Don't think it's real strong
They have played with big leads in several games which limits the rushing attempts. But that being said…..The Pats coaching staff makes good adjustments and comes up with schemes that can frustrate.

We ran into some Bills fans at the beach last summer
They had a huge Bills tent set up so we had to go over and say something. Great group of fans, who love the team but couldn’t believe it when Jauron’s contract was renewed. Tough to be held hostage like that as a fan.

ITS F'ING BULLSH*T HOW SMART BELICHEAT IS!
The main reason they traded away Richard Seymour was so they could resign Vince Wilfork. They accomplished two goals.
1. Get maximum value for a declining player (something they’ve done forever and I hate the rest of the league for not catching the F on)
2. Obtain the cap room to resign a core defensive player that is still in his prime. (they also secured a replacement in the draft Ron Brace as insurance if he doesnt resign)
I hate the Pats but love their business strategy. By far the best in the league. Their player evaluations aren’t that great since very few draft picks make any noise in the league. However stockpiling picks allows you a better percentage of hitting on a player. I hate how teams continue to do business with the Pats because they will no doubt get screwed in the end. (Welker noooooo)
So in essense I hate the players not the game

Player evaluations...
…aren’t everything to do with draft picks. We got Randy Moss with our 4th round and we got Welker with a 2nd ;) BB will get the best player available for his picks, even if they’ve been in the league for a while. Also, Hoodie has been excellent with his first rounders, apart from Maroney and Watson (and Watson has still shown promise). I also don’t think anyone can argue with his strategy of collecting a kajillion draft picks so he can get as many players as possible and hopefully half of them will be a hit.

So far he’s holding his own productivity wise, even if he hasn’t yet earned the double-teams that Seymour did. Not bad for an undrafted free agent.

We all had dreams...
Of Galloway, Moss, Welker and Edelman spreading the field, but injuries/suckage has prevented this from happening. He is an excellent project and hopefully he will continue to learn the system and start producing again when he returns.
I have to say that all of our focus, right now, is the development of Brandon Tate and how he performs and if he can step into the #3 Receivers’ shoes and produce.
Here’s a returning question: How has Pat White been? I know we showed interest, but that could have been feigned interest in order to get him drafted and keep some of the players the Pats wanted on the board (or maybe we actually wanted him). How has he done in the wildcat, if he’s done anything?

Typically there are three reach ranges
Kick range, punch range, grapple range. Actually, there is also missile (gun) range, too.
You need some sort of defense/attack for all three ranges to be well rounded at MMA.

I have been training in MMA for about 4 years
Not to be mistaken with the caliber of GSP or BJ Penn, but I really wouldn’t be worried in most interractions with 90% of the people walking around. I love the competitiveness, even in just the training and sparing. I still struggle with really good BJJ practitioners. I have a good enough wrestling background that if I am overmatched striking wise I can take it to the ground.

18 years ago, I wanted to be competitive. Now it’s just a workout.
There will always be someone smarter, or faster, or stronger, or with a better reach. Any of those can be compensated for. It’s when they all stack up that you have the problem.

Cardio isn’t really the issue, I am good there. Finding time to train with all my traveling is what really sucks and makes things difficult. I wish I would have started in something like this when I was younger, I would have loved to have actually competed when I was younger.

This gave me a chance to get the whole family involved.
The two youngest sons also have black belts. My wife has a red, oldest son (busy with college and work) is blue. It’s been a fun family activity.
I just do TKD sparring for points rather than the submission thing. For me it’s more important to show up at work on Monday than to be able to beat everyone. Priorities have changed over time.

When I started about 18 years ago
It was more like boxing gear. Now we have chest gear and helmets with cages. I still broke someone’s ribs punching with the gloves on through his chest gear. He jumped at me, so it was hard to pull the punch.

I played soccer for years and was in good cardio shape
But my current job has me sitting at a desk all day, and there aren’t any adult soccer leagues here.
Both grandfathers and my father died of heart attacks, so the writing is on the wall to keep the ticker healthy. Running doesn’t work in the winter very well (icy, and hard to breath at -10°F). I have a treadmill and it’s boring, same with weight training. But this has been fun with new and interesting ways to break stuff. Always new challanges for me.

Ok, here's my question.
Has Brady seemed to have shaken off the rust he had from the beginning of the season? I’ve a few of the so called “experts” say that Brady was back to his ‘07 form after the Titans and Bucs games. Of course, they didn’t mention that those performances were against terrible teams.
In the half of the Titans game I saw it looked like Brady was still occasionally making some uncharacteristically bad throws. Over/underthrowing, missing his receiver, etc. Since you guys get to see more of the games than I do, how has he been looking? And how has he been responding to pressure? Have many teams gotten to him regularly?

I'll try and answer this...
I would say that Yes, Brady seems shaken off MOST of the rust. Because it was against terrible teams, I won’t say “All the rust.” The reason for Brady’s miscues in the Titans game can easily be explained because he was adjusting to the blizzard he was playing in. After he got used to the weather, he had a pretty OK second quarter.
Brady hasn’t looked so good against the pass rush, but that’s because the only teams who really rushed were at he beginning of the year, when we didn’t have Welker, who kind of neutralizes that rush. We managed to hold the Bronco’s Dumervil to 0 sacks (despite our loss), so I’ll say that we’ve been doing a better job protecting. I still believe a solid rush will break the Pats, but we haven’t really faced that with all our weapons back so I can’t say.
More on Brady, sure his opponents have been the equivalent of Pop Warner, but the main point is that Brady got his accuracy back on the deep pass. He was hitting his receivers on the numbers and that’s always a good thing. I’m going to say that he’ll be able to take advantage of your rooks.

Aside from some normal rookie mistakes,
our rook CBs have actually been playing very solidly. Sean Smith has held some good receivers to some pretty mediocre yardage. Reggie Wayne, Vincent Jackson, etc. He’s still given up some big plays, but not as many as you would expect for a rookie on some good vets.
Vontae Davis hasn’t gotten as much playing time as Smith has, but he also seems to be coming along nicely and making some good plays. As surprising as it may seem, I think you’ll find a lot of us here are much more comfortable with our corner situation than we are with our safeties. Them not being able to cover TEs has killed us all season.

Manning didn’t make them pay nearly as much as Brees did, and I fully expect that Brady will try to make them pay just like Brees did. Like you said, hopefully (for us) they can step up and keep the mistakes to a minimum.

In his prime...
Favre was every bit as good as almost any other QB to play. He had a 4-5 year stretch that was just rediculous. Now most of the years since then, with the exception of this year, he has been average. This year he is playing his best ball since the 96-97 year.

I Hate the Pats more then the Jest BUT
this is a big BUT, lately the Jest have taken the crown. Then again it might be I hate the Pats team but like the the fans (respectful compared to the jest fans). Even there team can be more respectful, obviously except when little Billy loses he’s not a great sport, but other then that there is way more animosity I feel towards the JEST this season. Moreover, the I hate I feel for the Jest fans is leaking in to the hate I feel for the team because of there disrespect from there players and coach.

You mean why did we stop at 59?
I think any more would have been just insanity. As it was, our second and third stringers were easily scoring on their first string. We were getting crap for going for it on 4th and 5 when, in actuality, it was the merciful thing to do. We could’ve easily kicked an FG for a guaranteed 3; at least we gave them a CHANCE to stop a pass play on a 4th and 5.
It was also a good time for backup QB Brian Hoyer to get some NFL reps, kind of like a preseason game I hate to say.
